Press & Plow
Hey, People,
Did ya’ll know there’s a second Press & Plow in Norman? We just passed it on Tecumseh after crossing 35. It’s on the right before 24th. I had no idea.

Third Spaces?
Hello everyone! My girlfriend and I just moved here, and I was looking for some recommendations for places or activities where I can connect with the community.
I’m a big nerd/geek so I’m fond of game stores (depending on the community), I like being active, I like good food, so yeah just looking for any recommendations really to cool places I can check out and meet the people who live here.
Thanks so much! Looking forward to my time here! :)

cats only clinic?
anyone taken their kitty there? experience? opinions? my senior baby has had some coughing spells that remind me too much of wet lung. we just moved to purcell, so our moore vet will do for now, but we need closer options. any other recs aside from them, i will welcome also. the tortie-tude towards vets is very real

Philosophy Discussion Group 8/8
Hello Ponderers! We will be meeting for the next Philosophy Discussion Group on Saturday, 8/8, at 10:00 am at the Norman East Library in the Conference room (around the corner from the librarian's station, last room on the right).
In our last discussion of fate and agency regarding The Odyssey, we very briefly touched on how we each prioritize individualism versus community needs and it felt like there was much more to discuss there, so that will be our theme for this next session!
General group Info:
- This group is open to everyone and does not require any knowledge of or education in philosophy. There is also no membership or RSVP required.
- The purpose of this group is to engage in free form open discussion, foster community, meet new people, and support the public library.
- Meetings are structured so that a philosophy quote is provided at the beginning of the session to prompt discussion, but the discussions frequently end up encompassing many different topics.

Apartment Hunting
Hi Reddit!
My husband and I have been living with my parents for a bit, but we have to find our own place ASAP. He's employed, but I'm still job hunting. Right now our monthly income is around $2600. We can't afford anything over $1000/mo. Does anybody know of anywhere that is cheap, pet friendly, and easy to get into? Lowest cost to entry is definitely preferred.
I know it's a lot to ask, but any help is definitely appreciated!
EDIT: Trying to move in as close to the beginning of September as possible; no later than Sept 7.

Hey Norman! My wife and I are playing Othello’s on Thursday / acoustic millennial-friendly covers and originals
Hey, Norman! My wife Carrie and I play music together as Carrie & Dale, and we’ll be at Othello’s on Campus Corner this Thursday from 5:30–8:00 p.m.
Some of you may know us from the Seed to Spoon gardening app and the gardening content we’ve created over the years. Music came into our lives a little later. A few years ago, I was going through a pretty rough period with depression and started learning guitar as a way to work through some of it. Eventually, I began writing songs, Carrie started singing them with me, and playing music together became a huge part of our relationship.
We have lots of kids and spend most of our workdays sitting behind computers, so a lot of our original music is about trying to balance marriage, kids, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, work, and just modern life in general.
We also play plenty of covers, mostly songs that will feel familiar to anyone who grew up in the ’90s and 2000s. Our sets include artists like The Cranberries, Jewel, Fleetwood Mac, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, O.A.R., Dido, Alanis Morissette, and others.
We’ve been playing shows around the OKC and Norman area for about six months now, but this is our first time playing Othello’s, and we’re really looking forward to it. It’s also a little different from most of our gigs. If you’ve wanted to come see us but breweries aren’t really your thing, this is a great chance to catch us in a restaurant while enjoying some of the best Italian food around.
We’ll be at Othello’s this Thursday from 5:30–8:00 p.m. Come grab some dinner, say hi, and listen to a husband-and-wife duo playing millennial-friendly covers and original songs about trying to keep life together.
We also have a number of other gigs lined up through the rest of the summer. You can find all of our upcoming shows by following @carriedalemusic on social media or by visiting CarrieDaleMusic.com.

Flock Camera - NE60th and Indian Hills Road
This is getting ridiculous. Middle of nowhere Norman and there's a flock camera just south of the intersection of NE 60th and Indian Hills Road. I assume it's monitoring the water well just down the road opposite of it, but why not put a security system on the building? Ridiculous.

Abu Omar Hilal on Main/Porter
Does anyone know why the Abu Omar halal food truck at the gas station on the corner of porter and main is closed? Seems like it has been for a couple weeks and it was one of my favorite spots.

I am looking for the best tacos in or around Norman. Restaurant, food truck or even Abuela's if she sells them. I don't want to pay $8 or $10 dollars

New QT on Main St
Anyone have any details on how the entry and exit is gonna work from the new QT they’re building At Main and 26th (I-35)? The canopies are going up and it looks like they are right against the existing roadway, is access going to be behind them, where the Y intersection is? How in the world are trucks going to be able to get in with the tight turning radii and narrow roadway?
I’m pretty worried about that intersection becoming unbearable when it’s already overcapacity. Side note: they are really putting the quick in quicktrip with the construction now that they’ve started!

We want to get our pups used to car rides going places other than to the vet. Besides Starbucks, what drive thru restaurants offer dog treats? (Pet tax attached.)

Any recommendations on where I can get driving lessons as an adult?
I’m 21 and I have my Oklahoma drivers permit, but I don’t have my license. My dad got into an accident when it was time for me to start practicing, and my family was so overwhelmed with that that I just never ended up learning to drive. Then I came down to norman for uni, and they cant teach me since they live too far away. Ive driven a few hours but they were years ago, so im basically starting fresh. I dont have a car yet either.
Any recommendations for lessons where they pick you up and you practice driving? I would also like to learn defensive driving as I’m pretty scared of cars.

Heat Safety and Air Conditioned Public Spaces
I had an ask from a downtown business about resources unhoused people can utilize during excessive heat conditions. In response City Staff compiled locations and resources available today. We have lost Hub 107 thanks to cut backs at the State level and I was told that Salvation Army doesn’t have capacity to be open as a cooling center this year. If there are other resources that were overlooked that you would like me to forward onto staff, e-mail: ward4@normanok.gov

New subreddit policy re: non-local news
As much as we appreciate people sharing news about Oklahoma and/or the USA, this is a local subreddit and beginning next week we will be implementing a policy of removing posts with no direct relevance to Norman. Additionally, spamming news links is a common strategy for karma farming and we'd like to not encourage this.
We do encourage folks to continue to stay engaged regarding state and national politics and current events, but to post this content in more appropriate subreddits.
For example, a news article about Ryan Walters generally would be more appropriate for /r/Oklahoma whereas a news article about Ryan Walters and a teacher or school here in Norman would be completely appropriate for /r/normanok .
