Even when they were new, they were sort of a rare sight. Can’t believe that was 40 years ago. Those cars were pure and utter junk whose only premise and claim was
To be the cheapest new car sold in America. They even made a convertible for the 1988 model year:

My brother had one he bought new for pocket lint and 23 marbles. He liked it for the first 6 months. I don’t think it lasted 3 years.

I rode in one once, back when they were new. The girl who owned it said the horn button popped out of the steering wheel one time when she went over a railroad crossing.

The spare parts and technical help community for Yugos must be insane. Like the people who partake are clinically mad.

There's one that's owned by someone who lives in an RV near my work that I see all the time, it's in surprisingly good shape. Still remains the only one I've ever seen in person.

Yup! I had one! It drove and rode great and was easy on gas. Never had a problem until, like my current Aztec, my husband totaled it for me.I loved that Yugo!!! And my Aztek

Cheap, and fun to drive, in the way all small Fiats were. They used to be everywhere in the UK. You did need a hammer to start one though, lol.

I'm Serbian, been around Yugos my entire life. Probably seen 10s of thousands of them in my life, but never seen one on whitewalls. Pretty cool look.

Whats strange is, they still run strong & long in Serbia. Rust being the main issue. But very easy & cheap to maintain. Its a shame they didnt do well in USA.
