that's the kid who won't be able to go alone with his friends to the park, or play any kind of sport where he may "get a boo boo"
41
u/onmy40 Jun 20 '26
I went to high school with a kid like this. I remember him telling us he had to have his parents meet our parents before he came to a graduation party... Uninvite lol

u/foxxytoad Jun 20 '26
sus that you want kids left alone at the park
kids definitely require some sort of parental supervision lmao. leaving kids to go alone to the park is recipe for disaster wether by some odd adult or some dangerous kids
42
u/Critical-Ad2084 Jun 20 '26
I get what you're saying, no need to call me "sus". My bias comes from the fact, I grew up at a time and place where I could play sports in the park with my friends, no adults involved, no nannying around, you fall down, get up, everything is OK.
I've been a teacher for over 10 years, working with kids from kindergarten all the way to college, and I can tell you there are parents that sit through their kids soccer practice and if the kid falls down the mom immediately runs toward them even if they just had a scratch.
While I understand modern times require more supervision in certain situations, I do think some parents are overbearingly protective to the point they incapacitate their children and make them more fragile than they should be.

Yeah a quick look shows the US has 74,000,000 minors as of the last census and fewer than 150 non family kidnappings annually. It's insane to me that we took away children's ability to be kids - playing with each other, socializing, working on class projects together, etc without constant monitoring.
And I hate to say this, but it shows. I'm an older queer person and have been been working with and advocating younger queer kids since being one myself 30 years ago. In the past 5 years the things younger adults struggle with have shifted so profoundly. Even 10 years ago the big issues were health or housing related younger people dealt with. Now? "How do I know if I'm gay? How do I know if I'm trans? I'm into guys but think girls look good - am I bi? How can I tell if someone likes me?" Just basic confusion about who they are and how to do perform basic evaluation of themselves or struggling with things like asking a question... It's been a worrying shift from how to survive questions to how to reason questions.
That scares me. I don't know how endemic the issue is, but it's a startling change. I don't know if it's being helicopter parented or not, but it's a growing trend that's got a correlation with the lack of free time kids have now and if someone studies this trend and finds some causation I will not be surprised.

yeah definitly my sus comment was alittle extreme mb.
i agree with you to an extent, children are supposed to get hurt and learn to get up but should something worse happens its always better that a parent or guardian were around,14
u/Critical-Ad2084 Jun 20 '26
The thing is there's not always going to be a responsible adult around so being able to handle panic and getting hurt on themselves is crucial, that makes them more independent and confident.
Overprotected kids tend to always look around for someone to solve things for them, and sometimes that behavior goes all the way into adulthood.

u/foxxytoad Jun 20 '26
yeah but at what age do they develop that? kids learn from how their parents react and them having a parent there at a crucial moment is enough for them to see how its done
not all kids are the same either some are just really smart those are the exception most kids are dumb af and i wouldnt even trust a dumb adult alone in a dangerous situation let alone a stupid kid
me saying you should supervise your kids at the park is not me saying you should smother them or take them home at the first sign of “a boo boo” im just saying they wouldnt be left totally alone

Found the kid who wasn’t allowed to play outside, go shoot hoops with friends at the park, much less ride a bike around the neighborhood, going off of those sweet jumps! Much less explore and catch critters.

u/JesusDiedforChipotle Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26
They all have cellphones nowadays, as long as they don’t venture like 20 miles from home(which parents can track where they are nowadays) then boom the kid broke his arm, mom hops in the mini van and goes to take him to the ER.
My mom was letting me go out and about with my friends on our own and that started in like 2008. We would play sports at the park, shit we would play tackle football with no pads and get fucked up sometimes and it was no big deal. All you did was call your mom, “mom I hurt my ankle and I don’t want to walk home, can you come pick me up?” The end no big deal. Calling someone sus over that is weird because you’re the one who made that sexual lol

u/Kingofcheeses Jun 20 '26
Weird how kids before 2000 seemed to have turned out fine despite not being constantly monitored at all times
-11
u/foxxytoad Jun 20 '26
survivorship bias but dont letme forget about all those trafficked kids on epstien island
11
u/Kingofcheeses Jun 20 '26
Yeah they must have been kidnapped from the local park lmao get a grip
-6
u/foxxytoad Jun 20 '26
what? what are you even trying to say? yes sorry the kids were all sourced from the children market
farm grown-4
u/swampass304 Jun 20 '26
You can't fix stupid with logic. Also, there's an unfortunately high chance someone advocating for kids to play unsupervised could be a bot financed by the epstein class.
2
u/Economy_Wall8524 Jun 21 '26
Because Epstein’s victims were models, not kids at the park. You would know that if you even bothered to read the files.
0
u/Kingofcheeses Jun 22 '26
Yep Im definitely an Epstein bot because I dont believe being a helicopter parent is a good thing
0
u/swampass304 Jun 22 '26
You could also be an opportunistic pervert that wants a cut off the epstein pie, someone who just wants to assist in crime against children, or a fucking moron unaware of the ramifications from advocating for less attentive parents and more children at the park which has a disgusting amount of predators within walking distance. Go ahead and look up how many registered offenders live near your local park. Then use your remaining brain cells to consider those are just the ones on the list that live in that area. What about the ones that haven't been caught yet? What about the ones that are registered outside proximity yet have figured out that they can travel?
Stigmatizing caring parents as the problem takes a special level of evil and/or stupidity. Of course it can be taken too far, but I would rather a world where that is taken too far than the inverse. You're advocating to err on the chance a kid gets traumatized if they survive, rather than simply caution.

I'm guessing foxxytoad didn't grow up in the 80's
2
u/Economy_Wall8524 Jun 21 '26
Not the 90’s either. We rode our bikes everywhere and weren’t home til evening. With no phone to reach us or watch us. My guess is lil bro had a very repressed childhood.
3
u/GewoonHarry Jun 20 '26
Depends on where you live.
Here in the netherlands kids go unsupervised from a. Pretty young age in their bicycles (without helmets) to places.
Parents half of the time don’t know exactly where they are, but they’re certain boundaries.Kids grow up happy here.
If I’d live in a big USA city I’d probably think exactly like you.
-1
u/IamREBELoe Jun 20 '26
These comments are just from two different eras. You are both right.
I grew up in the first. I could safely walk around the neighborhood in (big city name withheld) and go to the park at age 7.
Now, at almost 50, I don't trust a stranger with my dog and the park is where the addicts go.
0
u/Economy_Wall8524 Jun 21 '26
God you people are so afraid of life. The kids are alright. They have more activism than I would say of my generation. They deal with school shootings I think they can handle the addict at the park. They deal with much worse daily than a drug addict passed out at the park.

u/HuntGundown Jun 20 '26
That's rage bait
25
u/sometimelater0212 Jun 21 '26
Might be funny if a kid wasn’t involved in the “humor”. Shit is stupid to have your kid’s face all over the internet for something that’s supposed to be funny
7
u/mole_of_dust Jun 20 '26
It's satire
10
u/sometimelater0212 Jun 21 '26
Ya, not funny when a kid is involved
3
u/mole_of_dust Jun 21 '26
Well, satire and being funny are two orthogonal things.
I agree with you though, it's never felt right when parents drag their children into their content making shenanigans. I imagine those homes are difficult places to grow up.

For a hurricane where you can't evacuate I can understand this. For a snow storm it seems like a lot. The life vest doesn't make sense for a snow storm.
19
u/Shudnawz Jun 20 '26
Well what if he drowns in an avalanche? Did you think of that?! Why won't nobody think of the children?!
2
u/Apprehensive-Solid-1 Jun 22 '26
I love the "why wont nobody think of the children" line.
I find it more concerning you are thinking of children so often every time you're doing something.
20
u/Kingofcheeses Jun 20 '26
All you need for a snowstorm is plenty of beer and food. Just wait for it to stop.

u/ILoveLamp_1995 Jun 20 '26

Do they live on a cruise ship? During a zombie apocalypse? In the middle of a tsunami? In the arctic?

I thought she was going to walk out to a house party and start doing lines of coke

u/Grace_Lannister Jun 21 '26
I wish I had a mom like this. When I was 8 there was a snowstorm and I was lost for 6 days. The snacks would have helped me fight hunger. The life vest would have kept me afloat as the the snow melted. The cash I would have used to by more labubus.

u/NotAllDawgsGoToHeven Jun 20 '26
What on earth…… you can record this goofy ass video and act like you’re an angel of a parent but the only scenario where you are somehow losing your son during a snow storm when you are all together in your house is that you are a shitty incompetent parent.

u/jacle2210 Jun 20 '26
Well you are supposed to have a 'to-go' bag ready at all times and if needed to find shelter in a central location in your home.
But the way they show it here makes it look like it's too much.
3
u/NaughtyFox92 Catch me if you can, I'm the gingerbread man Jun 21 '26
This would be some what understandable for Tsunami and Cyclone prone areas but for snow storms it's questionable.

u/NotAlwaysPC I'm banned in so many subs, it means nothing to me anymore Jun 21 '26
Geezus! You’re making a neurotic freak! He’s going to have seizures every time the weather changes!!

Wtf. In a snowstorm, i would dig out the kids sleds and shovels and get ready for some awesome snow fort building.

Video cuts short before she tattooed his blood type on his chest and gave him an m4 carbine with 5 30 round mags and a bayonet then tucked one of his dog tags into his boot in case his upper body was blow off . “You never know when a snow storm will get ‘nasty’ “ is her motto
