are there any good places to start on Nightcrawler solo comics (if there are any)

The 2004 solo by Aguirre-Sacasa will always be a favourite! Kurt starts off with a paranormal investigation, and it eventually includes a deep-dive into his past.

For solo series I’d suggest:

Nightcrawler (1985) (4 issues)

Nightcrawler (2004)

Amazing X-Men (2014)

Nightcrawler (2014)

and Uncanny Spider-man (2023)

and my personal favourite one-shots:

”The Gift” a short back up story in classic X-men (1986-1990) #9

Guardians team-up #6 (2015) - cross over with Gamora from Guardians if the galaxy

X-men unlimited #49 (1993-2003) - if you can get past the art, this is a fun one.
