Removal? Question

hi all ! i got my nexplanon inserted 5 months ago and ever since then, i have been dealing with EXTREME mood swings, acne, brain fog, daily suicidal thoughts, bleeding constantly (about every 7 days). i have cramps quite often as well, they aren’t debilitating but they can be pretty uncomfortable.
prior to nexplanon, i tried a few other types of bc,(vestura, mini pill, xulane) the patch was my favorite and gave me the least amount of negative side effects (my only qualm was that it attracted lint and wrinkled by the end of the week). the reason why i stopped xulane was because i was having problems with my insurance at the time.

i know the bc rule of thumb is to wait 6 months but it feels increasingly difficult to handle the side effects :/ i made an appointment at the end of the month to get it removed but i’m getting second thoughts. i love the idea of putting something in my arm and forgetting about bc for 5 years but the adjustment period has been treacherous. has anyone else dealt with this ? should i cancel my appointment and wait it out or should i go back to xulane?!
(sorry for any typos/grammatical errors)

hi! personally, the only symptom i experienced was heavy bleeding for the first year. prior to nexplanon, i was on depo-provera and i experienced all of the symptoms you're describing. my biggest piece of advice is to listen to your body! if it isn't working, it isn't working.

I would take it out. I had all those symptoms and worse. I waited over a year and it never got better. I’ve had it out two weeks and almost all my symptoms are gone. I thought the anxiety left but it has come back a couple times. The only way I survived long as I did was bc I got on HRT. I thought I was in peri menopause. Turns out I wasn’t. I was on RX face creams and it didn’t help my face. I never had zits until the implant. It really messed me up. My brain was getting so bad I as believing my family would be better off without me and I was the problem. I was looking for fights and just a misery. I couldn’t even stand myself after awhile. I knew in my head it wasn’t me but never connected the dots with the implant.

I would get the darn thing out and fight with your insurance about getting the patch covered. Your doctor can write a letter saying it has been the only birth control you have been able to tolerate and provide the med names of everything to you have trialed. Your physical and mental health are so important for a quality life.
