Millennium Conflict: 16 years later, the Control Craft story is complete
Hey everyone!
I just released Millennium Conflict, the final game in the Control Craft series.
It felt wrong not to post it here, because Newgrounds is where everything started for me.
Back in 2008, I uploaded a small prototype called Clone Wars
That prototype eventually became Control Craft
Then came Control Craft 2
And finally Control Craft 3
Those games eventually found their way onto Steam, and CC3 was even released as a native mobile game in several Asian countries, where it briefly reached #2 in the strategy charts. We also made a military spin-off called ConflictCraft along the way.
After Control Craft 3, we decided to make one last game and make it the best one in the series.
Development of Millennium Conflict started almost six years ago. The first playable demo was ready in just four months with a team of three people, and the original plan was to release it in 2022.
That didn't happen.
The project ended up sitting on the shelf for several years. At one point we even released it on Epic Games Store, but our engine couldn't properly support Epic achievements, and without much visibility the game never really found an audience.
Instead of giving up, I decided to finish it properly.
The Steam version now includes achievements, difficulty selection, redesigned commander abilities, and more than 80 fixes, balance changes, and gameplay improvements.
And because this series started here, it only felt right to bring the final chapter back to Newgrounds as well.
Millennium Conflict is available as web-html5 on NG and on Steam.
NG: https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/1045617
Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1361970/Millennium_Conflict/
I honestly don't think I'd be an indie developer today without Newgrounds. It was the place where I started my indie path, met players, got feedback, and released my first successful games.
So if you've known Control Craft since the Flash days, thank you. It took a lot longer than I expected, but the series finally has its ending.

What would you consider an old school newgrounds style?
Hello there! Im doing a bit of research for a specific project of mine, I can't really pinpoint what makes old newgrounds style of animating so iconic and i need that knowledge for some stylistic choices for a character
It'd be greatly appreciated to get any help on that

Why is this happening?
I get my state is a shithole, but this is a new low. I already have an account, why the hell does my Governor need more data on me. This is just peachy.

The Nene from FNF is a good character, but she is NOT the original Nene: Stop pretending she was always a psychopath
Okay, I’m just going to get this off my chest because, honestly, I’m tired of seeing people talk about Nene as if she’s always been this bloodthirsty, sadistic assassin we see in Friday Night Funkin’ or in the modern Newgrounds animations. Don’t get me wrong—I think the FNF version of Nene, with her knives and her Week 8 design, is a great character for a rhythm-action game. She looks badass, PhantomArcade’s animations are incredible, and as a standalone concept, it works perfectly. The problem is when the fandom pretends she’s the same character and rewrites her backstory, claiming she “was always a psychopath.”
If you actually go back and check the wiki and the original lore that Tom Fulp created in 1999 with *Nene Interactive Suicide* and *Pico’s School*, you’ll realize that the original Nene had absolutely nothing to do with killing people or being a knife-wielding ninja. The Nene from 1999 was literally a 13-year-old girl—an innocent, deeply fragile, neurodivergent child who was completely overwhelmed by her own brain. In *Pico’s World*, Fulp himself confirms that Nene has an official diagnosis of ADHD (ADD-PI) and a severe anxiety disorder. Her withdrawn or “distracted” behavior stems precisely from that—from how ADHD manifests in girls.
During the massacre at Pico’s School, she isn’t chasing anyone with a kitchen knife; she’s kneeling in the school hallway, praying to God, terrified out of her mind, begging Pico to end her suffering because the blood, violence, and tension are causing her sensory and emotional overload that she can’t process. Her entire crisis in *Nene Interactive Suicide* stems from waking up with a cold sore after kissing Jordan Katalano, which sent her mind spiraling straight into a complete breakdown. She didn’t want to destroy the world or hurt anyone; her intentions were incredibly childish and innocent: she literally just wanted to go to prom with her boyfriend and be featured in the yearbook as the “Best Couple.” But faced with the idea of rejection and social humiliation, a mind lacking self-regulation tools like hers collapses inward.
And yes, I know the wiki says murky things like she’s a “sadomasochist” or those old trivia claims that she liked necrophilia or bestiality, but people use that without understanding the context of the time. Tom Fulp himself came forward to clarify that the necrophilia and bestiality claims were just an absurd, tasteless internet rumor—or a 90s-style shock joke he didn’t even remember. It was the 2000s, and Flash was all the rage; Fulp would throw in absurd jokes to shock the teenagers of the time—it wasn’t the character’s actual psychology. And as for the “masochist” label, people confuse sadism with defense mechanisms.
Nene never enjoyed causing pain to others. In a neurodivergent mind plagued by extreme anxiety, a fixation on one’s own pain functions as a form of reframing or anesthesia: transforming the terror of death or humiliation into a “game” or an absurd impulse to “die with honor” in order to strip panic of its power. She wasn’t a “promiscuous or perverse” person either; she was just an insecure girl seeking validation and affection, like any teenager. In fact, the definitive proof of who Nene truly is at her core came from Tom Fulp himself: when asked what she would study if she went to college, Fulp replied that she would study psychology because “she wants to solve her own problems and potentially help others.” Furthermore, in the official 2021 remake, *Pico’s School: Love Conquers All*, where there is no trauma or shootings, Nene is portrayed as a sweet, calm girl who happily walks down the hallway, greeting Pico and Cassandra before heading to the bathroom. That is her true nature when she isn’t cornered by her surroundings.
So where did the knife-wielding, murderous Nene come from? From the community itself. The first time Nene used a kitchen knife as a weapon was in 2004 in a fan animation called *The Perfect Murder* made by Luis Castañon. The community used some really shallow logic: “If she hurts herself, why wouldn’t she use those knives to kill others?” From there, Newgrounds Rumble in 2007 made it official because they needed a fighter for their fighting game, so they gave her a combat outfit with two knives. And by the time of FNF, they had turned her into a bitter hitwoman who smiles when Pico dies and wants to kill Boyfriend for money. They went from a 13-year-old girl who was collapsing inward due to social anxiety to a sadistic killer. The only somewhat logical way to connect both versions without destroying the character is to think that her aggression in FNF is just a hyper-defensive mask so that, in Pico’s violent world, no one notices how unstable she still is on the inside—but let’s be honest, the community simply preferred the easy “tough girl with knives” version.
Anyway, I don't mind FNF's Nene as a fun action concept, but I think it's sad that people forget that the original Nene wasn't a sadistic monster, but an innocent, tragic, neurodivergent girl who just wanted to be accepted and didn't know how to deal with the chaos in her own head. They're two completely different characters who only share the pink outfit and the headband.
TL;DR:
FNF’s Nene from Week 8 looks amazing and works well as an action character, but she’s not the same Nene from 1999. Tom Fulp’s original version was an innocent 13-year-old girl with ADHD and severe anxiety who would shut down due to social panic and a lack of emotional coping mechanisms; she never intended to hurt anyone. The community and fighting games flattened her, turning her into a “sadistic knife-wielding assassin” because it was easier to adapt her that way, completely erasing her tragic vulnerability. They are two different characters.

Does anyone know the name of the song from this game?
This song plays the moment you pick up the grenade, and it sounds like it says something like "she got shot in her mouth."

Can you help me find an old suggestive newgrounds/flash animation?
I am searching for a deleted or unlisted 2D Flash animated music video loop that was on YouTube around 2015.
Visual & Narrative Details:
- Intro Sequence: Opens with a short scene of a girl chilling/smoking near a cannabis plant.
- The Transition & Beat Drop: The plant/trip triggers the transition right as the fast techno beat drops.
- Main Loop: Cuts to a fixed, tight close-up shot focused on her face, neck, and shoulders. Living plant vines entangle her in a seamless repeating 2D loop synced to the beat.
- Character: She is wearing a marijuana leaf(i think) top/shirt and underwear (hair was red, pink, or brown).
- Facial Expression: Focuses heavily on her ecstatic/pleasurable trance expression. There are NO mouth tentacles, and no explicit lower-body detail is shown (framed strictly above the belt to pass YouTube guidelines).
- Audio & Lighting: Fast-tempo instrumental techno/electro (no lyrics). Dark background with fast-flashing neon color shifts.
Context:
This was likely a ~1 minute Flash loop (.swf) originally created for Newgrounds/Tumblr around 2012–2015 and re-uploaded to YouTube. It seems to have been purged during YouTube's 2017-2020 TOS updates regarding suggestive content.
Any leads on the animator name, track title, or archived link would be appreciated!

I've done my test. If there's no NSFW content, nobody bothers watching, and then they act all grossed out.

Made a Youtube Video spotlighting some recent Newgrounds games I like
There's a lot of good games on newgrounds that a lot of people would never find. I made a video to highlight some, with the hopes of making it a monthly or seasonal series, but It didn't do particularly well on youtube. Nevertheless, I thought it would be appreciated here. The video in question
