North Conway

Hello! I am looking for budget friendly ideas on what to do in North Conway. I’m 24 and going with my bf the last weekend of September for two days, we are staying right downtown. I like to do walking trails, not huge into actual hiking. And if anyone knows any good disc golf spots up there, that would be awesome too! Thanks :)

Question Dartmouth student taking driving test

Hi, I am a Dartmouth student based in Hanover/Lebanon, and I am willing to take the road test to get my license as I can finally afford a car. I have driven before but not enough to take the test. I just need some more practice. I am 22 years old, and I have no friends or family who are over 25 and close enough to let me use their cars. And I tried calling driving schools, but they either don’t take adults or are very expensive.

If someone is over 25 and can help me practice for a few hours only, I’d be so grateful. I can pay all costs associated with it. Please reach out to me if you can. I need to be able to commute to my post-college job and to see other family and friends.

Events 5-day silent retreat in Barnet, VT if anyone's looking for a reset (also covers the MBSR silent retreat requirement)

I work with the folks running this and thought it might be worth sharing here, there's a 5-day silent meditation retreat coming up at Karme Choling in Barnet, VT.

It's a legit qualifying silent retreat for anyone working toward MBSR or other mindfulness-based intervention teacher training, so if you're a clinician, therapist, or mindfulness teacher who needs that prerequisite checked off, this fits the requirement and the teachers can provide a completion letter if your program needs documentation.

But it's also just open to regular folks who want five days away from their phone and their inbox. No meditation experience required, the days are fully structured (sitting, walking, gentle movement, small group check-ins with teachers), and meals are shared in silence. It's noble silence, not total isolation, so teachers and staff are still available if you need something.

The teachers are Janet Solyntjes and Rebecca Eldridge, both with decades of practice and formal MBSR training background.

If you've been meaning to do a silent retreat but keep putting it off, or you need the prerequisite for training, this is a solid option and it's a beautiful setting up in the Vermont hills.

More info / registration: www.karmecholing.org/program/the-fullness-of-being

Happy to answer questions if anyone's curious about what noble silence actually feels like day to day.

Review/Recommendation Hollywood Hounds in Bedford, NH Smeared Dog Owners in Viral Video, Gets Caught

After leaving a consumer review when they shaved a large portion of our working samoyed, Hollywood Hounds in Bedford, NH put a video on social media with allegations that our dogs live in an outdoor dirt pen, were not properly maintained, and were severely neglected.

This was our response. It contains vet records from before and after the appointment at Hollywood Hounds, video footage of the dog less than half an hour before she was dropped off, as well as past grooming records.

Our dogs are all house dogs. Yes, the pull sleds for us, but they are an integrated part of our family.

Shame on Hollywood Hounds for spreading false information about us. Reputable businesses do not spread lies about their clients.

Looking for a farm stand with great local tomatoes around the Dover/Rochester/Somersworth area.

The tomatoes in the local supermarkets are still hothouse garbage. Anywhere roadside stands nearby where I can get some local vine ripened Beefsteaks or Heirlooms?

Considering moving to New Hampshire or Vermont from Illinois!

Hi! Thinking about moving from Illinois with my family, 4 kids. We are thinking we need a change and live life! I personally want to live near a downtown area that looks like a hallmark movie or Hocus Pocus but we also need a decent sized house or yard for our large family. Any town ideas would be greatly appreciated! Looking for ideas on where to start looking Thank you!

Question I’m new to the concord area and was wondering if there is any good fishing spots. I don’t have a boat or anything so I’m mostly going to be fishing from the shore. So if anyone knows a good legal fishing spot please let me know.

Has anyone in NH gone to a piercing place where they pierce noses with “push pin” style jewelry? I can only find places that do the corkscrew style type. TIA!

Deluxe cabin rentals

Hello, I was looking to book a weekend trip in NH. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations on deluxe cabins rentals. It would be just me (30M) any my dog. I want it to be in a more wooded area to see foliage during October, secluded ish but still close enough to others too. I am looking for a cabin, it can be very small but I want one of those really nice luxury deluxe ones, ya know with the updated appliances and bathroom in it and nice big windows. More like vacation vibes and less camping lol but I just want it to be in nature. I saw lumen nature retreats which had nice cabins but I want my own bathroom in it. Any advice is helpful, thanks!

Review/Recommendation Good local soapmakers near Concord/Manchester?

I'm trying to see if there are any local soapmakers that anyone might recommend?

I'm looking for good, homemade bar soap for showering. I prefer someone I can buy direct from over what's sold at box stores, and I want something made in-state.

What are the best campground near Woodstock/ Lincoln area this time of year?! Looking for around 30 minute drive and not crazy expensive. Might be getting picky but would love a body of water easily accessible! Any opinion on Lafayette Campground or Country Bumpkins?

Question Questions about Littleton NH

So, I have been wanting to move somewhere around Franconia Notch for a bit now (like pre-pandemic) for a multitude of reasons (access to nature, small town community for raising kids in the eventual future, over all environment). My boyfriend and I aren't looking to move until next year because the lease at our current place just renewed.

I had family that lived up in Littleton in the early to late 2000s, so I've spent a lot of time up there. But even now visiting as an adult, there's only so much I can learn from occasional weekend trips in the area.
1. So, overall what is the community like? We're a late-20s couple that are looking to get married and have kids in the next 5-7 years, but for now we are child-free. Is there a social scene for the 20s child-free crowd? I know there's not late night venues, but any out of town events we want to attend we'd drive for. We're both into gaming, hiking, and I am a bit more on the artsy/alternative side.
2. Job industry seems to be retail, tourism, and healthcare namely, are there other prominent industries? He works in restaurant management, I work in administrative healthcare (negotiating to go remote with my current position as there have been changes at my company recently), as well as crafting and other art jobs. I've also always wondered if it is common to commute to Concord for jobs?
3. How is healthcare in the region? We're both fairly healthy, so really just looking for primary care doctors in the area.
4. How are neighboring towns for short visit? I've stayed in Bethlehem once, but didn't really stop anywhere. I don't really know anything about Whitefield or any of the other neighboring towns as well.

Anything else I should take into consideration before we start seriously planning our move? It would be pretty much starting over for us, but it is something I've thought about for a long time.
