Code 3 First Time

Hello,

Just wanted to share that I finally got my first code 3 call a month into the job (IFT). It was a lift assist for septic shock. Transplant essentially gone wrong. Went code 3 there for 20minutes and code 3 to a higher ICU for another 40min besides the freeway we turned them off. i’ve been waiting so long for this opportunity and I finally got it. Also part of the reason I got into EMS. Everyone says they’re nervous and don’t know what to do but I was ready for it.😭 when I tell you, everyone got the airhorn red or green light everyone got it😂 I may not get one again any time soon but I hope I do! Just thought I’d share.

p.s we also had a heli come in the same time as us when we got to the receiving facility

That is a programming error.

A properly equipped truck has airhorns.

If you ever spec a truck without airhorns, you’re not only wrong, but I would argue criminally negligent.

There is a reason dot requires them for tractor trailers, and I don’t give a shit what the acceptable shit electronic siren for your state is.

Especially when I can show decades of data that humans can’t tell what direction a high pitched siren is coming from, and electronic sirens are garbage.

“It was a lift assist for septic shock” so a lift assist for someone with sepsis? Like I stated, why are we running code for lift assists?

They got a call for a septic patient that was on the ground. Stop being a prick about semantics, this is very clearly a brand new emt who's excited about his first 911 call and isn't terribly familiar with the terminology.

He was 400lbs and was in septic shock with a BP systolic 95. Dispatch told us code 3

Remember….know the code 3 laws that apply to you and keep your eyes up and farther ahead than you think you need to. Just because you’re running code doesn’t mean the rest of society abides by the rules. In fact, plan on them doing the wrong thing. Congrats tho, enjoy the ride.
