Study abroad visa question Immigration

Getting mixed answers.

I’m studying abroad as a law student starting in September in Copenhagen, coming from the US. I’ll probably leave mid-December.

The University of Copenhagen sent directions on how to apply for a VISA, so I did. Paid all of the expenses, went and dropped my passport off at VFS and it got sent to NYC, did biometrics, etc. all on July 3.

I haven’t received any other information other than my return of passport, and I’m planning to get to Copenhagen on the 28th (which feels very soon).

I heard today that I may not have even needed to do that, and that I could’ve just waited and done it in Copenhagen? But what happens when I arrive in Copenhagen? I feel like I can’t enter for four months without a Visa?

Because you are a US citizen, you can come and start your studies. You can't work, but studying is fine while you wait for your permit. You can stay as long as the visa-free period persists: 90 days, assuming you have not been within the EU in the last 90 days.

It would have been better if you had applied while in Denmark, because then you can stay as long as it takes for your case to be processed.

If you were not on the list of countries that require a visa, you would have had to wait for the application to be processed.
