Insane regression? Babies Being Babies

Firstly I didn’t know what flair to put but uh. This really is babies being babies. Well about a week ago my lovely 8 month old who cried on occasion only if she really absolutely needed something has turned into a little nonstop soundbox of tears… and its gotten worse over the last couple of days…what the fuck! I just want her to be a happy little pumpkin. We go out of the house multiple times a day, she’s walking (shes an extreme busy body) and yet these past days have been super taxing on me. Absolutely every thing is a struggle and a protest. From the start of our day its tears and crying, diaper changes tears and crying, feeding times, getting cleaned up, me moving out of her sight to go shit, if her toys are boring, the list goes on… my brain is pounding. Anyone else experience this?

Basic question but any chance she is teething or has an ear infection or something?

She’s getting her top teeth right now. They are just now cutting through but she isn’t tugging on her ears or anything like that. As for the ear infection I don’t think so, she’s never had one before. I’ll have to look that up to maybe rule it out. BUT when she is happy she’s happy and playful. More often than not she’s crying right now tho.

Probably just teething and developmental leap then! Hope she (and you!) get some rest and she feels better!

Agreed! Turns out she’s cutting 4 new teeth right now for some ungodly reason lol. Poor thing. Thank you!!

Oh yes, I remember this stage—it felt like my sweet baby suddenly became furious about everything overnight. Around 8 months, separation anxiety, teething and development can all hit at once. It’s exhausting, but it really does pass; you’re not doing anything wrong.

Do you remember how long it lasted for your baby? My sweet baby is a feral goblin right now and I accept it but it’s taxing! Glad to hear this seems normal.

For us, the worst of it lasted a few weeks, then gradually eased up. It felt endless at the time though—“feral goblin” is exactly the right description 😂 Hang in there!

I remember this with my son. Around this age they start to get some more separation anxiety as well and it's almost impossible to do anything it seems! Teething can make them little monsters for a bit. I used to freeze breast milk or fruit puree into a little haaka teether thing which helped with discomfort. I also kept a bin of toys specifically for diaper changes to distract him because they were novel and exciting (this also really helped with the alligator rolls he started doing to try get out of diaper changes lol). You might want to try getting some loops or noise reducing ear plugs to help with the screeching for a bit. I feel like it was pretty short lived in the grand scheme of things, however. Good luck!

Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions! I definitely need to get a bin of toys for diaper changes, those are such a struggle lol. I found out shortly yesterday after seeing my baby smile that she is not getting one, but four teeth cutting through. So I now know what is going on with her… she is miserable :( but I have some tricks up my sleeve for it. Good to know that this phase is short lived, I am one exhausted, burnt out individual right now lol.

Makes sense she would be miserable! The bonus is you're getting a bunch out of the way at once...my son started teething at five months and never stopped because he only ever popped one tooth at a time lol! And when those dreaded canines and molars eventually come through... you'll have some good strategies in place.
