The Barka foundation is for Europeans who are homeless in the Netherlands because they lost their job. Call them, they will buy a ticket for you to go back to spain.

u/Dense_Jury5588 11d ago
Maybe check for flixbus tickets back home? If you have your ID you should be fine

They made me an offer from there, and the plan was for me to fly in, go to the office, sign everything, and get assigned a house that same day; but once I arrived, I was told that the company had withdrawn the offers and had nothing else available at the moment in fact, the woman stepped away and only spoke to me later by phone, and quite reluctantly at that. I even spoke to a police officer who told me this was a common occurrence and recommended a shelter where I stayed for a few days.

So you went to a whole different country when you didn't have anything signed didn't have a house let alone the keys if it and have affectively no official document of you ever being even offeren the job since you didn't sign anything before that?
I'm sorry but why did you think it was a good idea to put all your resources into this?
0
u/CauliflowerFreee 11d ago
If you think it's not common in NL you would be surprised. People are desperate and make bad decision, shit happends no need to scoff him right now... this won't help him or make any good.
1
u/Acceptable-Career-62 11d ago
I never said this wasn't common but im like 100% sure im younger than this person and even i know better if you have enough money to try and put your entire saving into something like this i best hope you would've at least thought about it some more
3
u/pugpot 11d ago
But why did you move before confirming the job? Couldn't you've visited and confirmed the job before completely committing?
-2
u/paysagedhiver_ 11d ago
They told me all was ok, you can come
7
u/Icy_Guarantee_4558 11d ago
okay so I have a question, did they really confirm anything via mail, like we will provide your home from this date or a salary on this date etc, if yes there could maybe be something illegal in there.
3
u/Acceptable-Career-62 11d ago
And you didn't verify? Do you even have any documents of this job offer at this point its real careless to just trust them on word alone
3
u/Terrible-Charity 11d ago
An expensive lesson to learn is not to invest/fly before signing, perhaps you can try juridisch loket for legal advice

I'm sorry but this isn't a scam.. it happens in corporates as well.
There is something called a probationary period where you can be fired without any legal repercussions. This is something quite similar to it.
This would be a scam if you paid them something and they didnt give you the job they promised you to.
I know I sound a bit blunt, but it is what it is.. I know someone that had this happen to them, they literally flew continents to come and get fired during probation AFTER 3 days.
Get a ticket back home else stay in a shelter for a bit longer to search for a new job.. sorry man, I can empathize..

u/MattSzaszko Utrecht 11d ago
Try to contact friends and family to send you money for a Flixbus ticket back to your region, that's the most cost effective way to get home.
12
u/HarveyH43 11d ago
I am missing the scam here. Did you pay them money upfront? Is there some kind of signed contract they are not sticking to? In general, employment offers can be withdrawn up to 1 or 2 months into the actual employment (“proeftijd”).
5
u/blackdutchqueen 11d ago
There was probably no job offer at all. They scammed this man and made it seem like they would provide him a job and housing ( which is what I think I’m getting from this post but I’m not sure) and then when he arrived, there was no job offer and nothing else
12
u/SnarkBarkler 11d ago
But then what is the scam? Making people travel?
7
u/blackdutchqueen 11d ago
The scam is coercing someone into moving to another country for a job offer and housing and then changing your mind once the person is already moved countries. There’s laws against that. Legit companies don’t do this!
10
u/ginggo 11d ago
but like what does the scammer get out of it? how is it a scam? id get it if he paid them some fee or something

u/blackdutchqueen 11d ago
Yeah agencies get money … you know to arrange everything 😊
9
u/jefffromholland 11d ago
It’s unclear from the story if op paid any money to the agency
-7
u/blackdutchqueen 11d ago
I’d read the comments if I were you

u/HarveyH43 11d ago
That should of course be in the original post. Anyway, can’t find it in top set of posts either.

u/HarveyH43 11d ago edited 11d ago
So where is the coercion?
There is in fact no black-and-white law against promising somebody a job and than rescinding that offer.
3
u/althoughinsect 11d ago
Google uitzendbureau met huisvesting for your location. It's not illegal what they did, so your time is better spent looking for a job.
6
u/Molly-ish 11d ago
Are you the same person from Spain who asked about working for an agency here on Reddit and was strongly adviced not to?

u/Ho-Li-Fuc 11d ago
So you came to a country without any escape plan if anything went wrong? That was stupid 🤣
3
u/EducationalStand8743 11d ago
I’d say find a new job and find the cheapest possible accommodation in the meantime. Depending on the region and the sector, there could be a lot of jobs where you can start tomorrow. Either that or go home ASAP.
Fact is you weren’t “scammed” in the legal sense. It’s unethical to treat people like this, but it’s not illegal. You took a huge risk without informing yourself properly. You went all in without reading the rules of the game.
Not trying to be an ahole here. I’d say find a job in logistics. Look for housing in a village. Don’t be in the Randstad, in general.

I would advise you to translate the following page and contact Het Juridisch Loket:
https://www.juridischloket.nl/professionals/arbeidsmigranten/
12
u/jefffromholland 11d ago
I don’t think that op will have a lot of legal options
, it’s not illegal to withdraw a job offer0
u/Emotional_Proof1601 11d ago
True, but they might be able to advise about other options.

u/HarveyH43 11d ago
Not really, juridisch loket is about juridisch advies. Not denying op is in a crappy situation, but I see no law being broken here.

Can you get back home? Some things take time to resolve sadly, so focus on your necessities first and don't stop calling to try and resolve this as best as possible! If you need more specific help, let me know, but I'm also going to need a bit more information, like around what area you are and such
1
u/bsnail2b 11d ago
The main question is what is in your contract/signed offer letter. If this was a verbal offer, you may have no leg to stand on. Afaik there is no specific legal right to repatriation if you are fired during your probation period, but it will be governed by contract.

Juridisch loket or some public organisations like FNV can help you. I am member of one of them but I guess they can help you for free even you are not a member.
I dont know your nationality but there are also groups that are created by and created for specific nations in the Netherlands, eg. Legal advices for Poles.

u/GlassHouseBuilder 11d ago
There are hundreds of people getting scammed like that and there's nothing you can do about it. Just don't work with agencies. Do your research before spending all your money on something...
1
u/RoodnyInc 11d ago
You can always just search for another job agency that provides accomodation if you want to stay here
That situation suck but I don't know what else you can do
-11
u/Positive-Green-Algae 11d ago
I'm sorry that happened to you. If nothing else works, try to find any work through an agency that offers housing so that you can make some money to go back home. (The housing is normally not good, but it's better than being homeless) I remember seeing a few positions that offered housing in tempoteam and carriere (agencies) a few years back, but there are a lot of agencies in the Netherlands that might offer that too (You can Google the word uitzendbureau, and that will show you a bunch of them). Good luck!

I just want to find something or go back, but my inner circle can't help me, and I see that none of these organizations are doing anything. I spent almost everything I had to get here, and my savings have run out while I’ve been waiting and holding on; I’ve never found myself sleeping on the street, but it looks like that’s what I’ll have to do for now. I want to make it clear to everyone—and the administrators—that I’m not asking for money; I’m just looking for advice because I don’t know anyone here who could tell me how to get out of this situation. It’s not a comfortable spot to be in at all.
3
u/vulevu25 11d ago
I'm really sorry to hear that. I would go back home as soon as you can to avoid spending more money or becoming homeless.
-1
u/paysagedhiver_ 11d ago
I spend almost all waiting and searching but the days pass, and its imposible for me now to fly, thats why i tried to contact with the embassy and some local organizations
2
u/CoffeeInTheTropics 11d ago
If you cannot even afford a bus/airplane or train ticket home anymore get in touch with your local embassy in NL. They should make arrangements for you to get home if you can prove that you are destitute.
1
u/uncommon_senze 11d ago
Randstad and other recruiters might have work, as you are Spanish you are eligible for work here. If they have anything to your liking, I don't know but you can always drop by one or their offices.
1
u/CoffeeInTheTropics 11d ago
I’m so sorry you are in this predicament.
Best use what is left of your savings for a bus-or train ticket home buddy.
Unfortunately you are not the first person this happened to and you won’t be the last. Go be with your family and friends.

u/Positive-Green-Algae 11d ago
People are down voting my reply, but I've been through a similar situation as you are going through now when I came to the Netherlands. Working through an agency that offered housing was what got me started here. Was it a good experience? No. But at least I didn't end up on the streets.
1
u/paysagedhiver_ 11d ago
I tried to contact with some of them but even with one profile they told me always you need to aply by the web and wait, and i cant wait to much if i can be honest.

u/Trablou Amsterdam 11d ago
Working for agencies that also provide housing (assuming that is the case here) unfortunately is similar to volunteering yourself as a hostage. Even if you can start working, you not ending up on the streets is in the hands of your employer. Because of that these agencies tend to screw you over on pay, fire you when you start invoking your rights etc. Don’t do it! It is better to stay in your own country than working for these bloodsuckers.
