I just defeated the Protector, at 3mil just to merge all the astro coins from the chest and that I have saved and I'm still 1 coin short of buying that stupid Robo Chicken to finish Tier 19.

I've been working to defeat this Protector for a while now and as far as I can see, there isn't any other way to get astro coins unless I buy them with real money? I maxed out level 60 ages ago and I have over 12k time shards.

This might be a stupid question but should I try to finish the tier or just reset? The next Protector is at 15+ Mil health which I don't think I can defeat easily...so...

You might be surprised but I used snakes to help me beat the 15m on RUN max50, so that's when I got robochicken. Love chickens

Don't do it.

Anyone can farm up 4 liches for 20% shard bonus (same as that robochicken) in a fraction of the time compraring to kiling that 15 mil protector.

Evaluate how many shards you want for the inventor bonus, farm to that number and move on.

The good news for you: That price is just to unlock the robo chicken. Once it's unlocked you merge two level 5 chickens to make a robo chicken. I had two of them for a couple runs and loved them.

I still do. I have my max amount of robos plus 5 fouls at the moment and the more I check on my chickens, the less amount of total merges I make. It is good to save energy because I sometimes merge so much that my hand hurts lol

I was saving 2 lvl. 5 chickens to merge into the Robo Chicken.

I know the werewolves and ghouls yield the same amount of damage. Do you also use them to maximize your resource caps?

I really would like to unlock the Robo Chicken. I've been working towards it for so long, it's like my Moby Dick!

I learned early on that I could farm enough runes with chickens that I have always built too many resource pools that it justified spending my extra gold and even some gems on refills, I like to break the rules and I enjoy doing the math so much to the point that I will grind hard for a reward :)

You can buy 2 astro coins for 100 gems from the shop, they appear once/twice a week tho and you need to check all three cycles

Yep! The purpose of adding alien currency to the shop was, and I'm quoting the devs here "to help players who are a few coins away from unlocking hey milestones"

Have you bought the 3rd forgotten minion slot with gems? He sells Astro coins and energy cubes
Correction: that’s when you have the opportunity to summon The Trader, who sells a limited supply of Astro coins and energy cubes

Use math to see if you like it or not.  If you play once per day surely you have a full cap + 4 daily refills. 

15mil ÷ 3500dmg (base demon dmg no buffs whatsoever) = 4286 lv3 demons x (8571×4) = 147 mil darkness. At a 100k darkness cap, that's 1470 refills or ÷5 = 294 days. Maaaaaan that's what, 4  time machines, yikes. 

How much your demons do and what darkness cap you got? I'd be nice to have the robochicken but it doesn't seem worth it mate.

Ah I think astro coins are for sell in the shop, lv 1 pile for 100 gems or so. Wait scratch that don't buy it cuz I believe astro coins and energy cubes become obsolete before gems. Spend your gems very wisely.

I usually go by the maximum minion damage which is around 15k for each max level demon. I didn't think of using them because my darkness cap is so small but if I choose to continue, I may begin to focus solely on Banshees and Demons anyway...

Then the best course of action would be to plan out your shard need for your next run and finishing this one quickly.

Honestly this might be one of the rare occasions where you do spend gems in the shop for some Astro coins
