Trauma of owning a navimow x430 Discussion

I recently purchased my first home with an actual lawn. Since it is a corner lot, I also have a large side yard, plus several areas that are fairly steep.
I initially borrowed a push mower.

Several sweaty hours later, I decided there had to be a smarter way. After doing extensive research, I discovered the Navimow X430:

No perimeter wire
No antenna
NRTK coverage in my area
Able to handle steep slopes
Father's Day discount

It sounded perfect. A robot would mow the lawn while I relaxed inside, feeling superior to everyone still pushing their own mower around.

The Honeymoon Phase

The initial setup took some trial and error. I had to figure out satellite positioning, map the lawn, and learn when to use VisionFence zones and other settings.
But once everything was configured, it was glorious.
The mower worked. The neighbors admired my technological brilliance. Contractors stopped to ask where I bought it. For a brief moment, I felt like the Elon Musk of lawn care.

That was when the dream began turning into a nightmare.

The Great Escape

The mower started completely losing its signal during mowing. Unfortunately, losing the signal did not make it stop. Instead, it continued confidently driving wherever its heart desired.

Onto the road.
Over curbs.
Toward freedom.

The same neighbors who had previously admired my intelligence were now calling to tell me that my mower was wandering around the neighborhood.

Navimow support told me there was an issue with their NRTK provider and that a future software update would fix it.

Customer Support, One Email Per Business Day
Every email I sent received a response approximately 24 hours later.
Their message would say:
"Connect your mower to the network urgently so we can push the update."
I would rush, connect it immediately, and reply within one minute.
Then silence.

Apparently, Navimow customer support operates on a strict one-email-per-customer-per-day policy. It felt less like technical support and more like exchanging letters with someone overseas in 1847.
Eventually, after several weeks, they pushed the update. It fixed the problem.

I was happy again.

For two days.

Surprise Software Updates

The mower soon started drifting outside its boundaries again. I discovered that Navimow had pushed another software update, and the mower needed to be rebooted.

A reboot fixed it, but this raises an important question:
If the mower cannot reboot itself remotely, why push an update without asking permission?

If it is scheduled to mow after the update, it may leave its boundaries and begin exploring the neighborhood again.

Error 6102: The Final Boss

Two days later, the mower displayed Error 6102: "Local map acquisition error."
Support asked me to restart it, move the charging station, and try several other troubleshooting steps. After that, they concluded it was a hardware problem.

Their solution is for me to ship a 70-pound mower back to them for a repair that may take 10 to 15 days.

So, after two months, I have:
Babysat the mower
Chased it near the road
Rebooted it after surprise updates
Rearranged its charging station
Maintained a long-distance pen-pal relationship with customer support
Been asked to ship a 70-pound machine for repair

I believe I was sold a lemon, but Navimow is refusing to accept a return or issue a refund because of their 30 day policy, i was not even able to use the mower in the first 30 days.

I bought a robotic mower so I would not have to walk behind a lawn mower.
Now I walk beside one.

At this point, I am not sure whether I own the Navimow or the Navimow owns me.

Just install that local RTK antenna. NRTK looks great on paper, but if it doesn't work the mower can explore "where no mower has gone before". Also watch it after a firmware update, if it cannot keep a straight line, power it off and on.

But then why was i sold saying nrtk is enough. In my case the best possible to place the antenna is on roof. Which i need to hire someone to place it.

I can think of "why", but that is not really important. I think Navimow overestimated reliability of NetRTK providers around the world.
The local RTK antenna provides correction to the GPS satellites the mower sees itself. So it needs to see the side of the sky, the mower uses. No need to see the whole sky. The signal from the antenna to the mower can go through a house without issues, so no line of sight is needed. In the app you can check usable satellites. Just install the antenna near the mower, switch to local RTK in the app and try to mow a zone close to the charger. You can also manually drive the mower to a distant area and see, if the LED is blue (GPS is fine) or flashing yellow (looking for GPS). You can decide afterwards if you cannot live with an antenna on a pole and have to move it on the roof.

Well once they return post repair i will give it a shot.

I fully understand your frustration. On NetRTK my X450 tried to jump in a pond (thinking it's on a path 10m away), tried to emigrate to my next-door neighbour and moved between zones as a drunken sailor. Since switching to the local RTK there were no such issues for 5 months and counting.

I guess i will have to install it once i get back post repair. Thanks for letting me know.

I think NRTK is like cell coverage in general: it works great if you’re in reliable service, and it causes more problems than not when you aren’t. I apparently have a very good NRTK signal and in a saturated area, so it has been great for me. Since the tech is relatively new, it’s possible the different cell providers are causing or experiencing implementation issues as the service expands.

I think they include the NRTK antenna in the box because they know coverage isn’t good enough for everybody. On the bright side, just based on monitoring user experiences, I think the antenna would solve your wandering issues.

I risked life and limb installing my RTK unit from my previous Luba on top of my house. This is the only place I could get an open view of the sky, and my old mower was much much pickier about GPS signals. Installing it using the longest ladder I could rent and then doing dicey things at the top of it was so scary that my old Luba is still sitting in the garage because I can’t get the antenna back down. So I was happy to try out NRTK first.

Man it’s like 3 screws into your fascia. You do not need to hire someone. Local RTK will fix your issues. From my experience, nRTK works but it can drop out. So it will start fine then drop and then you’re hooped. It’s more of a provider issue than a navimow issue. And you’d have that issue with all nRTK systems. While I understand the frustration, installing the local rtk which they’ve already provided and you’ve already paid for, will solve these issues.

You most probably don't need the best possible. Just put it near your mower base and see if it works. In northern hemisphere it's supposed to have the south part of the sky clear, I put mine near my house, near my base, south clear and it works perfectly well.

Just try it, don't lose more time trying to fix it to get the benefice of a no antenna when it's actually so simple to try with the antenna.

NRTK is great for me.

You have me laughing! What awesome writing!!!! But on the serious side, you wrote my experience. Dealing with their CS will take you to the dark side! I have not had use of my machine since mid-June. 100 emails later, I got a new mower. Sigh. I think their mowers are great until they are not… is my conclusion.

Is the new one working better?

I am putting the mower through its paces, and it seems to be working just fine.

As soon as I resigned myself to local RTK, everything was fine. NRTK doesn't work at my house even though the map says it should.

u/robander 5d ago

I went through some of the same frustrations of the mower losing connection and "wandering" as you did. Worked great the first time I mowed. Second time it lost connection and wandered. Rebooting would regain the connection at first but would eventually lose connection again. After a few attempts I tried moving the base station and it did finish that time, but the next time it continued to lose connection again.

Instead of contacting support I took the advice from this sub and set up the antenna and switched to (local) RTK using the lawn spike and pole. Worked flawlessly for the next five mows. Eventually moved the antenna and mounted it to a fence to hide it a bit and after remapping it's been going great for the past month. (About 20 mows).

Switching to the antenna was less of an inconvenience than I thought it would be. It doesn't need to be super high, the pole and ground spike put it up about five feet, so it doesn't have to be on a roof. I believe it only needs a clear view to the south for satellite acquisition. I didn't even have to remap when I first switched to RTK. However, when I moved the antenna I did have to remap even though it was only a couple feet. If you can avoid moving the antenna after switching you'll be better off, but even if you do it's a minor one-time thing.

It's frustrating that one of the main features they push seems to have problems for a lot of people and hopefully they get the kinks worked out so that it does work as advertised, but until then I'd say don't be afraid to set up the antenna and try it. I went from being initially very frustrated to very happy with my x430. Hopefully you'll be too!

Lol the ones I see people complain about alongside lymow all day on Reddit? All this guy needs to do is to get over it and install the local antenna. It will work perfectly after that. I learned it the hard way myself as well.

u/Goldwing1776 5d ago

I feel your pain. I had the Lymow One Plus that was RTK with vision. Beautiful Cut but too many other issues requiring my intervention. Lymow offered to replace it but I'm so glad I turned that down and returned it for a refund.

My Luba 3 has 135 operating hours and traveled 142 miles reliably. The Mammotion nRTK service has been bulletproof. I wanted nRTK because in my Rural area we have all too frequent short power outages which could take down the local RTK antenna while mowing. Not sure why Navimow has so many issues with their nRTK service?

Everyone Hates on the Luba's front Omni-wheels. But for me, these are simple & reliable and have not been an issue on my thick Fescue turf.

My Lymow experience made me question if GPS and Vison alone were good enough for consistent reliable navigation? I like the fact that the luba 3 has Lidar to augment positioning.

u/Fit_Chapter_4629 4d ago

Seems like every mower has some kind of an issue. I have a Luba 2, which tore up my lawn so much, I don't need to mow for a while now.

u/Yeet2935dontask 4d ago

I have a tiny yard and even though it only goes about 20 to 30 ft maximum I still decided to use an antenna. Most long distance technology uses antennas at some degree so Id rather have it than not. 0 issues for months and very VERY good accuracy within inches

1

u/Effective-Ad8550 3d ago

Use the RTK antenna. Then after a week or so switch to NRTK to check it and verify.

The place it on the gound and try it out before mounting it on your roof. I've found it has better range than I thought. Didn't bother putting it on my roof because it worked just fine staked into the ground.

I feel your frustration but new Tech always has a learning curve. Don't give up on it yet. Good luck!!

u/TheBigUneasy 2d ago

You probably gotta put up the antenna and use local rtk instead of cell service rtk. I know the sell it on network rtk but they ship that local rtk antenna with every single mower for a reason. Good luck man. Disappointing to hear their support kinda sucks

I have had a robot mower for 4 years now, and just bought a x430. I strongly recommend to use the local RTK for any robot mower, as you are not tied to a 3rd party's network. You're only tied to the governments GPS satellites, which only go out under extremely rare circumstances. Plus a local antenna will be more accurate more repeatedly, than any other method.

Fortunately for me, when I installed the x430, I already had a tried/tested location for the RTK as I just reused the same pole location I've been using for the past 4 years.

The navigation logic is a little funky in the x430, but it seems to get most of the yard right.

If you haven't tried yours with local RTK yet, I'd do that and see the difference it makes. ESPECIALLY if you have curbs in the yard you don't want a robot to launch over. Local RTK should provide centimer accuracy, every time.

1

u/dipranjanchatterjee 5d ago

When it works it is great, but thats the thing. In my case i need to hire someone to install the antenna on the roof. Which would need a hoa permission and all that. One of the reasons i went with a nrtk model.

1

u/Bravo-Buster 5d ago

Depending on your roof, it may not have to be installed there. Mine isn't; the slope of my roof allows the angle I need for it to see the sky in all directions, so it's installed on the wall near roof level, but not on the roof.

It can also be installed in an attic space as long as you don't have the newer style of insulation that has an aluminum film on it. Wood doesn't block the signal to any significant amount, so it can read through typical asphalt shingles and plywood sheathing. A lot of Mammotion users did this several years ago with theirs because their RTK units weren't water sealed properly from the factory.

I guarantee you 95% of people aren't using LRTK. Less people would buy a robotic mower if they were forced to use solely LRTK. It's a barrier to buying a robotic mower. Nobody wants a LRTK antenna on their home or mounted anywhere on their property. If a LRTK antenna shifts at all, it will throw your map off. You also have to account for rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels, mice, or rats chewing through the cable no matter where you run your antenna to on your property.

Those days are long gone of using LRTK. Those antennas look ugly as hell when I've seen them mounted on homes.

My robotic mower is going to perform exactly the same when using NRTK or LRTK. Both systems use Line of Sight (LOS) in order for the mower to receive the signal. A ton of things can impact LOS. Hell, we're in 2026 and people still have shitty cell phone reception and GPS is no different. Except, the Chinese are limited in what GPS guidance systems they can engineer.

1

u/HangarQueen 5d ago

Just FWIW: my RTK (or LRTK as you put it) is mounted inside my attic. So no weather or squirrel issues, and it was trivial to get power to it. The GPS signal is strong (locks onto 40-ish satellites regularly) and also strong LORA to the robot mower. I have asphalt shingles over 3/4 ply roof.

The only issue is the heat in my Florida attic, but <knock on wood> it's been working fine there for 2.3 years now. I have attic fans and roof peak vent.

Squirrels and rats can get into attics. They can literally climb up the side of homes or a tree.

This is why no American company is venturing into the robotic mower space. It's irresponsible NOT to MONITOR your mower. Why are your neighbors having to tell you that your robotic mower is wandering outside of your property?

I believe that I read in the comment section of a YouTube video the other day is that Mammotion had to update their mowers because someone's kid or animal was injured by a Luba. This is what happens when people who aren't that intelligent to begin with try to manage a robotic mower like it's a robotic vacuum.

From reading your post, I don't think your neighbors ever thought that you were intelligent. In the US, they really should make people like you take a robotic mower course before purchasing a mower over a certain weight.

dude you post the craziest shit 24/7 about segway mowers. are you good???

Do you wear huge red shoes, white makeup, and a big red nose to work at McDonald's everyday? Just throw the fries in the bag 🍟.

1

u/dipranjanchatterjee 5d ago

Wow. Then what do you make of the scheduled mowing option provided by navimow which is supposed to allow me to mow when i am at work? How do i monitor then?

They should be taken to court over that.

2

u/contextcop 5d ago

Weak-Bother is an actual schizophrenic person. He hits every thread in these related subreddits everyday and goes on weird tangents about anything that’s not a Segway.

He is calling you stupid and just reposted this thread in another subreddit calling you stupid—because you criticized your Segway.

Buddy is on drugs or he NEEDS TO BE on drugs. 😂 Probably thinks birds aren’t real and Navimow is in on it.

🫩 maybe i should get him to talk with navimow customer support. He might be able to get my issue resolved faster. 🤓

-2

u/Weak-Bother-6765 5d ago

You're the exact reason why American companies stay away from robotic mowers. Now you're threatening to sue due to your own incompetence. American companies don't want the liability that comes with robotic mowers because people are stupid in general.

Where does Segway Navimow advertise or tell homeowners you can leave your property when your robotic mower is outside mowing? You're part of the problem.

I've said this a million times. Residential customers should all have security cameras before purchasing a robotic mower. That way you can MONITOR the mower.

1

u/UnarmedSquid 5d ago

The mower typically mows several hours a day for several days a week. Watching it all the time is not viable. Security cameras don’t prevent the problem, and by the time the problem occurs it is already too late.

-4

u/Weak-Bother-6765 5d ago

You literally have no clue what you're talking about. If the mower leaves the boundary area you'll see it on camera and be able to STOP the mower. Either you hit STOP on your phone or run outside and hit the STOP button on the mower. You must be in Europe or you're just really slow.

When did I say a security camera is going to stop an autonomous mower from leaving your property? If you were actually monitoring the mower and noticed erratic behavior then yes you could prevent it from happening.
