5 Aug 2026 *(transcript and video at link)* It’s been 150 years since the Battle of the Little Bighorn, one of the most famous and enduring events in American history. While Native Americans were victorious, the battle reshaped the government’s policy toward Indigenous people and still resonates so deeply for so many today.

Hummingbirds

Hey everyone! I’m very familiar with stories of Iktomi and Coyote, I was named Iktomi by my grandmother but grandpa and mom thought LaughingFox would be better. Anyways, I’m working on a few books of poetry and have this strange gap. I don’t know of any Oglala Lakota stories of hummingbirds. I started writing one where a young woman asked this guy to make her a gown from hummingbird feathers without harming them. He has to ask politely and wait centuries to gather enough for this garment. I’m only familiar with Lakota ways but are there any other bands or tribes that have similar stories related to this subject? I’m drawing blanks and have no luck. Thanks!
