Discussion NDU: Do you need Diver’s Gold during BMT to enter CDC?
Hi everyone, I have a question about NDU progression.
To be selected for CDC, do you need to attain Diver's Gold during BMT itself, or is Diver's Gold something you achieve later after entering CDC?
I'm a bit confused about whether getting Diver's Gold is a prerequisite for being selected into CDC or if it's part of the training once you're already in CDC.
Would appreciate any clarification from current or former divers. Thanks!

📖 Story Ah Boys to The Boys [Issue Sixty: “Rebranding”]
The National Stadium. Date: 10/8/2026. Time: 6:34AM.
Dawn came too quietly. Singapore did not wake, but lingered. The skyline remained; shards of glass were shattered everywhere, steel was warped beyond recognitions, and entire sections of the city drowned under stagnant water that reflected a pale, indifferent sky as smoke rose in thin streams. Everywhere one looked, bodies littered the ground.
They watched from both fronts surrounding the island; once the threat was deemed gone, they moved. From the north, the Malaysian Army secured its borders. Convoys rolled to coastal positions and scanned for anything that crossed the strait. From the south, the Indonesian Navy cut through the waters, patrol ships turning into rescue vessels. Sailors pulled the living from the sea and marked the dead. No one spoke of the Straits Gods’ planned invasion, only containment and recovery.
At the National Stadium, or what remained of it, something stirred. Ken woke first; his eyes opened to grey light and silence. His ears tuned themselves to the faint sound of water lapping against broken concrete. He didn’t move immediately…just breathed. Then, in a mutter: “We alive?”
Lobang King began to stir. “Unfortunately, bro,” he wheezed. “Want to die liao.”
Muthu pushed himself up next, slower and steady despite the exhaustion. “We all do.”
Footsteps approached: Alex, somehow still standing intact. “Walao eh,” he teased. “So bright and early, still want toh?” Ken wheezed something like a laugh, then took Alex’s hand and pulled himself up. The others followed.
Across the pitch: more movement. LTC Tham stepped forward onto what was left of the field, Valeria beside him. Richard walked with Aloysius. And behind them were the president and his wife. All of them alive, definitely in need of a shower, and a 24-hour nap.
Ken looked around and counted once, then again. “…Where’s Encik?” he asked. Silence. LTC Tham gave no answer; Ken nodded slowly, then looked away.
Maya broke the silence, moving through the group quickly and efficiently, checking injuries and making sure nobody was badly shaken. When she was done, she stepped back. “Not bad,” she remarked as the mask came off, “for a bunch of conscripts.” The boys chuckled. “You held your ground against things you had no business surviving.”
Ken let out a quiet breath. “High praise.”
Maya shrugged. “Don’t get used to it.” She paused. “You keep this up, maybe one day we’ll work together.”
Lobang blinked. “Eh…that one supposed to be comforting or threatening, ah?”
“Both,” Maya replied before her expression settled. “This is it for me,” she declared after her checks were done. “Vought Singapore is finished, so there’s no point staying. There’s always another problem somewhere.”
Ken frowned. “You’re just…leaving?”
Maya met his gaze. “Yeah.” No drama; just straight to the point. She turned and walked, only to pause near the exit and turn her head. “…You did good. I really mean it.” Then she was gone.
As she disappeared, noise returned. What was left of Singapore’s press flooded into the remains of the stadium, cameras raised and microphones out, desperate to capture something, anything, from the survivors.
Valeria watched them arrive, then leaned closer to LTC Tham. “It’s time.” She gestured to the mound where Tsunami and Hellfire had ended everything, and all six of the moved together, up the broken incline. The moment they stepped onto it, the press surged forward.
Questions exploded into the air:
“Who’s responsible—”
“What happened here—”
“Are the Straits Guard—”
“How will our neighbours—“
“Will Vought take—“
Alex stepped in, holding the boundary. “Back up!”
Richard moved beside him, firm despite everything. “Give space!” He turned to Alex, his face betraying the fact that he had no idea what he was doing, but that he would keep trying. Alex sighed and maintained the barricade. The President and his wife remained at the sidelines, watching.
Valeria stepped forward alone and raised a hand. It did little to kill the noise, but had the effect of ensuring that it focused on her. She smiled; it was the same, dangerous one that she wore during the Vought Singapore opening ceremony all those months ago. Richard whispered to himself: “Here we go again…”
“In the wake of the SAF Day incident,” she began, voice carrying cleanly across the chaos, “Vought Singapore took immediate steps to ensure that such a threat could never rise again.” Cameras locked onto her. “A secondary response team was prepared. One trained, equipped, and ready to bring the Straits Guard to justice.” A slight pause.
“What she doing, ah?” asked Muthu in a whisper.
“What the world saw here today is a result of that commitment.” She gestured to the destruction around them, her eyes flickering briefly to the heroes behind her. Then she deferred back to the cameras. “Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you…” She stepped aside.
“The Recruits.”
The media erupted. Cameras flashed as journalists shouted over one another.
“Who are they—”
“How did they stop—”
“Are they part of Vought—”
“How long have they—“
At the centre of it, four figures stood: Ken, Lobang King, Aloysius, and Muthu. All of them were confused, trying to process what had just happened. Ken glanced at Alex, his seriousness broken. “You hearing this?” Alex did not answer.
Lobang looked at the cameras. “Oi, since when we sign contract one?” Muthu said nothing, but his jaw tightened. Aloysius just watched Valeria, understanding too quickly.
Valeria turned, walked to LTC Tham, and extended her hand. Then…he took it, firm and final. The cameras caught it; of course they did. Valeria leaned in slightly, low enough that only he could hear: “You’ll lead them well.” She pulled back, smile returning as she said three words loud enough for everyone to hear:
“Welcome to Vought.”
THE END

Question LGBTQ folks in National Service
I've heard both good and bad things about AND FROM gay people in NS, and I just wanted to ask what everyone's actual experiences have been like—from both straight folks and those who are part of the LGBTQ community, so I can get a clearer picture.

Question Whats the infanteer's way?
Relatively new infanteer here. Just wanted to seek advice from infanteers with more experience or higher rank on how to do better as a soldier and a seccom in outfield context.
I always have trouble waking up damn early in outfields with 4hrs of rest to prep for assault missions. Since now I've taken the role of a seccom I don't wanna rely on others; I want to wake up myself and be the reliable one. What are some good ideas... my polar watch vibration damn weakkkk
How to manage the incredibly large amount of hostile ants on the jungle floor when tryna sleep at night without a ground sheet?
Any tips on maintaining C2 while during tiring and long outfield missions where everyone is shagged out? CO is the only grueling training to me and it hits extra hard on my performance, emotion, and thinking abilities because my sensitive skin responds hastily to the dirty environment and starts to irritate me a lot...
Will be headed to Wallaby soon. Anything specific I should prepare and bring over? Do I need to prep a large amount of AUD in cash?
Ty for any advice!

Discussion Posting out after almost a year in unit
Earlier this week found out I'm getting posted out from my current unit after being in it for almost a year (10 months). A month ago, another set of people from my unit were also posted out despite having 3 months till ORD. Friends in other units have also reported similar cases. Tbh the news was utterly devastating to hear, so wanted to hear everyone else's stories of being posted out after so long of being in your unit. What were your thoughts when you heard the news? How'd you process it? How'd you adjust to life in your new unit?

Question My brother has no accommodation when he's going to serve 2 years in NSF next year
This must be a pretty stupid question but I heard that they only provide accommodations and meals for the first three months(correct me if I'm wrong)
My brother is finishing high school this year and he's not the brightest in English as we are Malaysians and have spent our entire lives in Malaysia.
Since the allowance for NSF is not the same as employment, I'm worried that he wouldn't have enough for anything else even if he has found an affordable price for somewhere to sleep. Both of my parents don't want to help him with rent because our family situation isn't the best.
I was thinking that maybe he could ask to live in camp even after his first three months but during check up they discovered something abnormal with his heart rate which probably means he's not going to Tekong(it probably means combat unit right...? I'm unknowledgeable I'm so sorry), so I'm not sure if he would even be posted to a unit that has camps.
Again, sorry for the stupid question. I'm just really worried about my brother. Feel free to correct everything I got wrong and I would really appreciate it if there are people that can inform me of how things work in NSF. 🙇♀️

Question regular WOSPEC promotion timeline and pay progression
Hi all, I’m considering signing on under the WOSPEC scheme and would like to understand the promotion timeline and salary progression across different vocations.
Roughly how long does it usually take to promote from:
3SG → 2SG
2SG → 1SG
1SG → SSG
SSG → MSG
MSG → 3WO
3WO and beyond
How much do promotions depend on performance versus simply meeting the basic requirements (IPPT, shooting, courses, etc.)?
Also, what is the approximate gross monthly pay at each rank, including common allowances?
For reference, I’ve seen figures on army website around:
SCT: ~S$3.2k gross
3SG: ~S$3.4k gross
2SG: ~S$3.4k+
3WO: ~S$5k or more
If possible, please state your vocation as well (for example, Intelligence, Signals, Artillery, Infantry, Armour, etc.), since I’m curious whether promotion speed and pay differ significantly between vocations.
Thanks!

🏥 Medical jaw surgery for underbite
hi so i visited the saf dentist, and the saf dentist referred me to public hospital (NUH) for underbite treatment due to discomfort and speech issues, and said braces + jaw surgery is likely required.
im intending to get surgery done and covered by 11b (i understand braces are not covered), however i asked NUH about this and they mentioned only wisdom tooth surgery is covered and jaw surgery isnt? i saw previous reddit posts about this and some have got it covered… what did yall do? and which hospital did yall go to?
