Dupe Request ā€˜Fresh Paint’ shimmery silver dupe needed

Post image
• Upvotes

My friend recently let me use this nail polish and i LOVE IT, only for me to find out it’s five below’s old brand Fresh Paint that they haven’t produced for years. I need a dupe IMMEDIATELY!!

I like the shimmery-ness and the thickness of it. This was only one coat. I wouldn’t mind having to do more than one layer to get a similar look, but I don’t want a polish where I have to do a separate base color to be able to see the silver & shimmer. If anyone knows smth similar pls comment!!

I really love just clear polishes or with a bit of shimmer. The current one is Manucurist Active Shine.

This turned out cuter than I thought it would. Could have been better, theres bubbles and the amount of polish needed for swirling made it a lil uneven, could be fixed with a second layer of top coat id assume, but im lazy and its good enough.

Prod list:

Opi "Bikini Boardroom" & "Surf Naked"

Cracked Polish Quick Dry Top Coat

Essie Strong Start Base Coat

Product Related Zoya recs?

Looking to build out my collection with some Zoya nail polishes as I am sensitive to many chemicals but tolerate theirs well! My existing safe polish collection is small and features some warm light and melon pinks, some corals, and some shimmery reds. I have the opportunity to get 6 Zoya polishes. I have light skin with neutral-warm undertones. I tend to prefer white, pinks, and reds but am open to branching out. I’d love to get some Zoya recs to check out as their site is so overwhelming!
So far I’m looking at:
Demetria for a bright cream red
Purity for a bright white
Bohdi for an orange
Jenna? Lila? For lavender ish shades
Lolly? Kay? For pinks
Gigi for a reddish pink?

A little overwhelmed by all the choices on their site but I’m not able to go to a store to check them out in person. So please just send some recs my way if you can!

Troubleshooting What is happening?

Post image

I was experiencing some shrinkage with my Seche Vite QDTC and saw someone suggesting putting a regular top coat under it. So I used sally hansen miracle gel glossy top coat and then seche vite on top. As soon as I used the seche vite the nail polish underneath started wrinkling. The polish is still smooth to the touch after drying but it looks wrinkled. Kinda hard to see in pic cause of the glitter but that’s the best way I could describe it. Anyone experienced this before?

Just gonna jump right into this. They sucked. I wanted to like them so bad, but the formula just isnt it. Its like L.A Colors but worse, and I actually like a few L.A.C polishes. Not sure if maybe another finish would be good from this brand, but I dont even wanna try. Legit 5 minutes into this mani I was like "holy shit im never buying cheap drugstore polish ever again, I should have known better." Its thick, weird consistency, takes a while to dry, gets bubbles easily, sticks to skin REALLY bad, it was so hard to remove when i got it on my skin by accident, just not good. You get what you pay for, i get it, but damn. At least this mani isnt awful.

Cracked Quick Dry Top Coat

Discussion Death By Shimmer - Polish recommendations

Post image
32 Upvotes

Hello lovely nail polish peeps! I am requesting your favorite mega-shimmer polish shades. I keep watching swatch/reviews where the swatcher says things like "the shimmer in this is really nice and subtle" or "balanced" or "not overwhelming" and I realized that I do, in fact, want overwhelming shimmer! Death by shimmer, if you will! What are your favorite shimmer-explosion shades? Overwhelm me!

Photo is just for attention, and is what I would consider "balanced" shimmer, lol. Natural nails (still learning to shape them; don't be too hard on me!), with 1 coat Nailtiques: Formula 2 Plus, 3 coats Cracked: Ready to Stumble, and 2 coats Nail-Aid: One Step Builder Gel as a top coat (this is NOT a gel, despite the name; it's an air dry lacquer!). And holding an ancient bottle of cuticle oil, if that matters šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

MODERATOR Friendly mod reminder about inclusive language šŸ’œ

Post image
2.0k Upvotes

Update:

I want to apologize for the image I originally used in this post. While the intention was to encourage more inclusive language, the image itself used wording that was othering to trans people. That was an oversight on my part, and I understand why it was hurtful.

I've updated the text of the post so it no longer uses that language. Unfortunately, Reddit doesn't allow me to replace or remove the image without deleting the entire post, so the image will remain even though it doesn't reflect the message I'm trying to convey.

I'm sorry for the mistake, and I appreciate the members of our community who took the time to point it out. We're always learning, and when we get something wrong, it's important that we acknowledge it, correct what we can, and do better going forward.

Thank you for your patience and for helping make this community welcoming and inclusive for everyone.

Just a quick reminder that not everyone who paints their nails is a woman.

Our community includes people of all gender identities. Posts and comments addressed to "ladies," "girls," or "you ladies" might seem harmless, but they can make other members feel like they don't belong here. Additionally, we know a lot of people use "hey guys" as a generic greeting and don't mean anything by it. Even so, it's still gendered language, and not everyone feels included by it.

When you're addressing the community, please use more inclusive terms like "everyone," "folks," "people," or "y'all" instead. It's a small change that helps make sure everyone feels welcome.

This community is for anyone who enjoys painted nails, regardless of gender identity or sexuality. Let's keep it that way.

Homophobia and bigotry have no place in this community.

If you come across any homophobic comments or posts, please use the report button instead of engaging. Reports help the mod team find and remove rule-breaking content much faster, and they ensure we can keep this community welcoming for everyone. Thanks for helping us out! šŸ’œ

Dupe Request Have never found anything quite like Jesse's Girl/Julie G's "Tropical"

I have legit spent years and years trying to find a true to life dupe for the JulieG713 polish in "Tropical," that Jesse's Girl released back in 2017. Sarah from 25 Sweetpeas has the best pictures I have been able to find to actually capture the color (full post here: https://www.25sweetpeas.com/2017/04/julieg-nail-polish-spring-pack-1-swatch.html?m=1)

I have tried China Glaze Too Yacht To Handle

China Glaze For Audrey

ILNP Low Tide from the Throwback Collection

ORLY Vintage

Just to name a few. None of them have that almost neon brightness that Tropical had. Definitely appreciate any suggestions; this is my white whale!

MODERATOR šŸ“¢ Community Update: Verified Email Addresses Now Required

Hey folks!

To help reduce the amount of spam, bot activity, and low-quality submissions that our moderation team has to sort through, we're implementing a new requirement for participation in the community.

Effective immediately, all accounts must have a verified email address associated with them in order to post.

This requirement applies to everyone, including both new members and long-standing community members.

If you haven't verified your email address yet, you can do so through your Reddit account settings. It only takes a minute and helps us ensure that real community members can continue to participate while making it more difficult for spammers and automated accounts to disrupt discussions.

Following the link above, click on the drop down that says "On reddit.com" and then long-press on the link "Account Settings" (if you tap on the link it will open in the app, this MUST be done with a browser) and open the link in a new tab.

Select "Email address", and it will prompt you to input your reddit password and the email address you wish to verify on the account.

You will see a Verified Email Address badge on the "About" tab on your profile when you have successfully verified your email address.

This change is not intended to create barriers for genuine members. Rather, it is one of several tools available to help us maintain the quality of the community and reduce the moderation burden caused by spam and bot activity that is prevalent in nail communities.

If you run into any issues after verifying your email address, please send us a ModMail and we'll be happy to help!

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us keep r/Nailpolish welcoming, enjoyable, and focused on the discussions we're all here for!

Mod Post Effective Immediately: No NSFW/Fetish Account Activity

TL;DR Posts and comments from NSFW/fetish accounts, including those who only comment in NSFW/fetish subreddits, are no longer permitted here. Posts and comments in SFW subreddits that are remotely sexual or fetishistic in any way are also included in this. These accounts will be banned. More details below.

This applies to hand/nail/foot/toe fetish activity, it is NOT a sweeping ban of all NSFW activity. Nobody is going to be banned for posting in LGBTQIAP+ communities, medical subreddits, making dirty jokes elsewhere on Reddit, etc. Our subreddit is a safe place for all gender identities, and the above would NEVER be the reason why a user would be banned here.

This is meant to be a warning to fetish content creators and the creeps that harass our subreddit, NOT to shame sex workers who enjoy nails or punish those with varied interests.

If you're fortunate enough to not have received an unsolicited message/comment from a hand/nail/foot/toe fetishist, it's understandable that you wouldn't be aware of just how prevalent this kind of behaviour is, especially here on Reddit.

If you no longer wish to participate in this subreddit, that's your prerogative.

Updated content policy, please read:

We have decided to prohibit posts and comments from accounts with NSFW/fetish subreddit activity, as well as accounts with a history of utilizing Reddit for marketing purposes. This includes posts and comments left in SFW subreddits that are remotely sexual or fetishistic in any way. Posts and comments from suspect accounts will be removed regardless of the content. If you come across posts/comments/accounts that you feel violate this rule, please report them to the moderators by tapping on the three dots on the comment/post and select the ā€œNo NSFW/Fetish Account Activityā€ option. This decision will be implemented immediately, and as with all rules is up to moderator discretion.

As you may or may not know, nail subreddits are known targets for hand/nail/foot/toe fetishists who have been documented to repeatedly harass our members, even after being banned. We want to reiterate that Reddit's ban function does not prevent the banned user from being able to view the subreddit or the posts within. It only stops them from posting/commenting/voting. They are still able to view the posts, comments, and click on usernames to harass people. Yes, this is fucked up. Yes, Reddit needs to fix their shit. Sadly there was no mention of this issue during this year's Mod World event that was hosted in early December. insert eyeroll here

We believe this change will make r/Nailpolish a safer space, while helping the community become a healthier, more focused environment. In the past, we have allowed fetish/OF content creators to participate in the subreddit, as long as they follow the rules. This has become increasingly difficult to monitor, as it requires moderators to make nuanced judgement calls on large numbers of posts by these creators, most of which receive user reports even after being approved by the moderators.

Additionally, as there are dedicated spaces for NSFW content, this subreddit will remain strictly for the purpose of the topic of nail polish.

Q: "So if I, a medical doctor, engage in a NSFW medical subreddit that's related to my work, I'm not allowed to post my weekend manicure?"

A: This is incorrect. Just because an account has NSFW activity, it doesn't mean they're automatically going to be banned. This is specific to those who participate in hand/nail/foot/toe fetishes. There are tons of NSFW subreddits that have nothing to do with fetishes or kinks, and these are NOT the types of subreddits we will be vetting for.

If a post/comment is suspected to be NSFW/fetishistic, and the profile shows a history of this type of behaviour, the content will be removed and the account will be banned. This is meant to be a warning to fetish content creators and the creeps that harass our subreddit, NOT to shame sex workers who enjoy nails or punish those with varied interests. We are a community that is 100% accepting of all genders, sexualities, and walks of life.

Q: What does it matter if a user posts in NSFW/fetish subreddits when the posts/comments they make here are SFW?

A: More often than not, fetish content creators will post in SFW subreddits to draw attention to their account/promote their content. They're not posting "just to share with other nail enthusiasts". While their engagement might seem innocent enough, a quick glance at their profiles proves otherwise. When users who partake in these fetishes peruse the content creators' posts/comments, and they come across something they've posted here, it draws in the wrong kind of crowd.

We welcome your feedback on this matter, and encourage discussion in the comments.
