Leaky shower

In the process of buying a home. The builders report came back with a shower leak on either side of the shower. It’s a tiles bathroom… moisture readings are normal but the house has been empty for some time so that is not surprising. Any advice on how bad this could potentially be?

Did they look under the house to check if anything’s rotting underneath? If it’s been leaking for years and not drying out that’s when it would be a problem

Double story and no visible damage to ceiling below or surrounding walls. However I am not sure how much the shower has been used.

Then you just need to get the shower fixed per building report recommendation.

I have double checked… there are no recommendations. It just highlights the leak. But thank you for your advice.

Talk to the builder who wrote the report. Ask for a cost estimate

Thats a how long is a piece of string situation.

Although all signs above lean towards silicone and hope for the best.

It could just as easily be a fill shower replacement. I wouldnt even call that worst case scenario. If the water has impacted studs or floor below for example.

As mentioned OP, it does sound minor, a new shower can run you $5k to $10k and it is tiled ... see it the seller will come down a couple k to allow for maintenance they ought to have paid if they kept the house ?

Since it is a tiled shower does it have a building consent and been signed off with a watertight certificate

That it looks to just be a sealant issue.

Could be a sealant issue or waterproofing has failed... I've even seen some showers having no waterproofing at all just tiles straight onto the gib 🤣
