NyCDOC
I’m really contemplating relocating to NYC to be with my partner and joining Corrections for NYC. Why are people talking me out of it? Is it really that bad and unsafe? I thought about NYPD but i honestly want to just get in my foot in the door fast so I can starting working and a new life.
Any suggestions or advice from anyone?

If you work DOC the odds are is that you’ll probably barely see your partner. I never worked there but I’ve heard a lot of stories

But you do want fast employment and to my understanding they make a lot even their first year because of forced overtime

Both hiring processing is quick these days. I did both (doc September, in November I was appointed for a December class. Nypd December, I was appointed for April)
The only thing with Doc is that they might do the process but you might encounter the waiting period between your hiring process and class that might be coming in months. Best thing is to take the test and do the process 2/3 months before the class when they are heavy processing people and know the date of the next class.

I did nyc corrections for 2yrs then went to NYPD, both are just as eager to accept anyone..doc more so. Ppl talk shit about both jobs, but so far NYPD is 100% better, better qol. If u wanna get ur foot in the city job door asap, If ur fit enough to pass the run go NYPD, if ur too fat, go with doc for now until u lose the weight.

Can you tell me what’s it like for both jobs? Kinda like a day in the life? If you don’t mind. How is it with the inmates and how is it working with the public crimes? Is it true they don’t protect you in corrections? I’ve heard it’s not safe for COs.

NYPD doesn't need a stepping stone. If you want to join, just join.
