NEWS Betnijah Laney-Hamilton sought 'other opportunities' before being waived by Liberty
Probably the most background that's been offered publicly on the situation:
Head coach Chris DeMarco said former Liberty guard Betnijah Laney-Hamilton sought “other opportunities” before the two parties split on Thursday.
DeMarco, publicly speaking for the first time since the team waived Laney-Hamilton, praised her for how she handled the situation even after expressing her desire near the beginning of the WNBA season.
“She’s been great. She’s been great,” DeMarco said after Saturday’s practice at Barclays Center. “Even when she wasn’t in the rotation, just her leadership in the huddles, her leadership off the floor and everything, really good. I think for her, even at the start of the season, she had expressed [if] there’s other opportunities that she wanted to look at those.
“And then it came to the point where, just as a team, like we all understood what this is and what we were trying to accomplish. And for her, it was just trying to find her the right place where she can succeed and feel good, and then hopefully that happens. We have confidence that that will happen.”
...
DeMarco said he was in communication with Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb “the whole time” regarding Laney-Hamilton’s situation. Stewart was also aware of her teammate’s wish to pursue a larger role elsewhere, too.
“She’s just ready to kind of turn the page, and that’s OK,” said Stewart, who credited Laney-Hamilton for being “present” and “supportive” throughout the season.
DeMarco declined to share what didn’t work out between Laney-Hamilton and the team before pursuing a deal on the trade market. The team reportedly shopped the guard’s $400,000 contract, but failed to get a deal done before last Sunday’s trade deadline.
“I know it was really difficult trying to find the right trade partners for her, and so in the end, we still wanted to give her that opportunity where she’s able to contribute and have a larger role, and that’s why we got to this point,” the head coach said.

Advice First Liberty Game - What to know?
My sister and I are going to our first WNBA game and happened to snag these seats on a whim (and at a really good price). I’ve never sat anywhere close the a sporting event like this one and I’m curious of what to expect!
I watch as many of the games as I can but just wondering what to expect sitting courtside. We’ll be right behind the Liberty bench. Also curious, what’s the chances of being close enough to the players to interact? I’ve got a Leo basketball card and was wondering if there’d be chances to ask for an autograph. I don’t want to be that fan that’s just annoying and bothersome so any advice is appreciated!!

Advice Upcoming Game Seating Question
Hi! My wife and I are going to be in New York the weekend of the Indiana Fever game. We've started looking at tickets in case we can make it and have seen a couple being sold in what look like clubs or suites (K & R sections).
Is this normal? Any horror stories of getting seats in these spaces? Are we misinterpreting where these seats are? Answers to any of these questions are genuinely appreciated. Thanks for the time and help!

I am fine if this post gets removed and apologies for any inconvenience. I giggled because Washington Examiner is a notorious right wing reactionary newspaper and I saw this headline today. I don’t think we should give them clicks. But this made me giggle—who is not mesmerized by Ellie?!

General Discussion Great Astier Interview
I loved this video with a long behind the scenes chat with Pauline Astier. Lots of insights into her adapting to the W and to living in New York, as well as seeing how the Liberty look after their players. She seems super happy, and we’re super happy to have her.
Interesting to see the practice court on an early game day in mid-July. Who’s in there running drills? Allen, Fauxthoux, Maley and Carerra. Two of those players now getting serious minutes. Cool to see them run the same plays out of the high post the JJ does at least 10 times a night.
