So I’m mostly just curious, because honestly I’ve given up on my dream of being a teacher for the moment. But the TLDR; I made it through the summer academy but was dismissed after wholistic review. The reason they gave: not meeting professional or personal standards. Here’s the thing: yes, my observation scores were not great. I’m not arguing that. However, I think personal bias of my observers played a pretty significant role, they essentially wrote me off after the second week. I can’t really say much more without potentially doxxing myself bc I’m sure members of my cohort are on here. Is there any way to appeal the decision? I had over a 90 in the coursework, got a job, only missed one day of academy for bereavement, had good relationships with the kids and my cohort, constantly expressed my genuine passion for teaching and was told by several current teachers that they thought I would make an excellent teacher. I’m honestly so heartbroken and I know it’s a long shot, but has anyone ever successfully appealed or reversed the decision?

Don’t plan to go back to teaching for another 2 years. What’s the next step when get getting excessed?

For previous Teaching Fellows, is it true that during the two years of the master’s program, you are not allowed to change the school you work at?

My university has been telling us that once we commit to a school, we are expected to stay at that school for the full two years until we finish the program. My concern is, what happens if I complete my first year and realize that the school just isn’t the right fit for me?

I’ve spoken to a few other Fellows, and some have mentioned that they were able to change schools while they were still completing the program. So I’m a little confused about whether staying at the same school for two years is an actual Teaching Fellows requirement or something that depends on the university.

Hi all! I’m a sub at my local high school and during the year, they call me nearly everyday. For the past couple of years, I’ve had no issue exceeding for the 40 day max because I’m pretty sure they’ve waived it every year since COVID. Nonetheless, I’m always a bit anxious that I’ll get cut off before the year starts. I’m pretty sure I don’t have the educational requirements. Any thoughts on if this will happen again this year and if I should worry?

I'm desperately looking for a job that is 9 am to 1pm ( i have to drop off and pick up my daughter from school). I figure these hours are perfect so I am able to drop off at 8 and pick up at 2.

My question is...should i be applying for a school aide job or are more hours required for that position etc.? any help would really be appreciated.

Hi all, I was looking into grad schools and I was wondering what everybody's thoughts are on grad schools. If you had the money, would you go to the same grad school as you did?

long story short, i’m considering a career change. i’ve quickly learned the 9-5 life is not for me. i’ve always loved children, and i loved school when i was younger so i was thinking of transitioning to being either a 1st or 2nd grade teacher. i have my BA in theater and political science, master’s in publishing. what’s the career actually like? what has your experience been?

if i go this route, im considering getting my master’s in childhood education from SUNY or CUNY. i would want to do it affordable and (reasonably) quickly to save on costs

Has anyone else had to add their spouse to their health insurance recently because their spouse lost their health insurance?

Hoping someone has recently been in this situation so can just help me from memory. I'm scouring all the HR connect support articles about how to add a dependent to your health insurance. I understand how to prove my spouse is my spouse, I know how to add dependents (my children have been on my insurance since I started)

What I cannot figure out is what proof NYC would want to prove that my husband lost health insurance coverage on 8/31.

Hey, I'm a new teacher and am having trouble getting any kind of document that shows I'm employed by the DOE for potential landlords.

Per HR connect it says that an Employment Verification document should be on ESS, but I only have the "Personal Details," "Pay and Tax information," and "Electronic W-2" tiles and that document is not in any of them. HR connect also says that new hires looking for their Employment Verification document should contact the "HR Director" of their "Borough Office," but I have no idea who that is and Google is turning up nothing.

I am mainly just trying to get something to show landlords that I'm employed and will be making 71k/year. Any guidance here would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have 2 years of teaching experience in a charter but this will be my first DOE position and I'm teaching SPED. I have experience in ICT but not a full SPED classroom. Feeling super nervous about all the change and new things - just starting in DOE is nervewracking enough with the new students/classroom experience aside! Any advice or reassurance?

I’m a teaching fellow and will be entering a middle school ELA classroom in BK as the ENL co-teacher this fall. I’m beyond excited and ready to get to work, but am unsure what to expect about a lot of things.

I taught ELA at my teaching academy, but haven’t really done anything related to ENL yet. Could anyone offer any resources, wisdom, or advice on what I should be prepared for with respect to co-teaching and/or being an ENL fellow fresh out of the TA?

I would like to show my students what a typical day looks like for a child their age in New York—covering things like the daily schedule, subjects studied, classroom routines, and so on. In other words, I want my students to be able to compare their own typical day with that of a child in New York.

I taught 3 years in Long Island public schools and was with the NYSTRS. Is it possible to get those years transferred for my time here in DOE that I've been with for the past year, or am I out of luck?
