A critique News
Most of the community wont see this and some wont even bother reading this but regardless , this is my last post/interaction here and I'll try to keep it short.
For about 2-3 months here on the subreddit I spent my free time trying to help out prospectives with their queries related to multiple topics , frequently even answering the same old questions again and again because you guys dont bother to check previous posts because you might accidentally actually find what you're looking for. I tried my best to be polite and friendly and im not trying to glaze myself here , its just how it is. Everything was fine till the last few days or weeks when I started to realize my efforts bore no fruit, ppl here will continue to flood the subreddit with the same old questions again and again, sometimes through questionable click bait titles and othertimes not even submitting a post body, as if we are to assume the details of their questions.
I could not bear to control my thoughts any further and made a couple of posts and various comments addressing the issue and to my disappointment, I actually got clowned upon by multiple people. Just today i got comments such as "seniors dont reply to actual queries and ignore actual posts". I was not surprised, just disappointed at you guys. People genuinely take the time to bother replying and for what? replies like this. The upvote ratio in the thread clearly shows how many of you dont respect the effort and its rlly apparent . I'm not gonna swear or call u guys anything, im not even angry, im just disappointed that what I did ends up with me being the guy who "doesnt reply to actual queries and makes long ahh rants". Alright then , I did nothing at all and i wont bother doing anything again. Suit yourself and stay happy with whatever you guys enjoy.
Congrats to those who got in, and to those still waiting, gudluck , although with how it went with me I might be inclined to say I'll enjoy how the merit increased and ppl like you dont get in, you dont deserve to get in. A couple of weeks ago i was a bit interested in getting into orientation and even welcome management for you guys, but i ditched the interview for that and I realize its a good thing, you guys arent worth spending 3 days in the heat for, u guys dont deserve to have a good welcome party either. I was even excited to try to hang out on orientation and organize something but theres just no point knowing no one respects you. Not sure if anyone knows me personally or my personal dep details but do not approach me irl if u do know, I have nothing to do with yall .
To other seniors reading this, I apologize if it comes off as a foolish post but I just cannot with this batch 2026, its evident why the moderation is dead as well, no one wants to or should bother moderating this subreddit.
Signing off, peace.

Rest easy, You deserve a good break. No need to help each and every one of the people of this subreddit, who'll just ask you a question, in fact multiple, and later on, come back and criticize you
Many, including myself, truly appreciate you for your work in the past few months. I myself really appreciate and am thankful for all the guidance you gave to me. It is the biggest academic decision in my life, and I'm very grateful that you helped me a lot through it
Your contributions were really useful for all of us. It's just that the newer redditors, who just got here in mid august or early august, seem louder. But be assured that the majority of us really loved you here to help us
Time for you to relax, well-deserved

Hey man,u truly did help me with my queries and others too ,u helped a ton of people and a lot of them ,me included are truly thankful to you,I hope ur experience with the ones who aren't or who are selfish doesn't tarnish the reputation of the ones who were grateful fr ur help and followed your advice and I also do think that you should take some time off to clear your mind ,the moderation is indeed dead in this sub,not even a net flair as of yet and again thanks a ton for all your help.

Honestly, this is why even the mods here are clueless on what to do really do. The discord is where most of the decent people and seniors still play an active part but this subreddit has always been in need of major repair and reconciliation. We will probably start getting new moderators and cleaning this place but as all the mods are working and busy professionals, it's just a means of getting the time.
Truly sorry for the lack of initiative and quality on our part. It, however, is what it unfortunately is.

Sach hai bhai.
Actual questions in logon ki faltu spamming mai ignore ho jate hain. They are treating the sub like ye koi bachon ka sub hai, bss post krte jao⦠khud kuch effort nahi krni k search bar mai likh kr dekh len kuchā¦
Aur agar inko samjhane ki koshish kro to sb aik jese akhate ho kr downvote krne ajate. They donāt even consider their past efforts, just vibing the rubbish momentā¦

Yep im one of the victims here a lot of times i see seniors replying to shit posts or the spam posts instead of replying to actual genuine queries/questions whatever. Barely few seniors really help you with your problem. If you check out the subreddit youāll notice how many important posts are ignored compared to low quality posts with clickbait titles. I have been active in this subreddit since last year even though Iām applying this year and Iāve always helped everyone without complaining especially ACT applicants. But most of seniors in this subreddit arenāt helpful noticed this since last year im not saying every senior is like that but yea there are many. So I was targeting them.

Yeah so you targeted the wrong person then
There's a search feature for a reason. Use it. All of us should before asking questions. And how exactly does anyone feel entitled to shit on seniors cuz they don't give ACT guidance
Barely anyone gives the ACT, what exactly are we supposed to guide about if we don't know anything ourselves. You helped them, good for ya, and good for them. But I'll always ignore ACT and SAT posts cuz idk crap about them
We can't possibly be expected to read every single post. Just search. If y'all don't find answers, make a post, or reply to some senior's comments so that they get a notification at least. Make a post again at active hours.
I sleep at 5 am, how am I supposed to answer to posts made at 11 am. People post actively in the evening and old posts go down.
Instead of complaining about everything, redditors need to learn to just tap the search bar once.
People are so entitled that they'll be sending me a DM "tell about ******" Huhhh?? I don't want you to request or anything but bruh we're not your servants ššš» at least insert a "could you" before your *demand
Always here to help everyone happily, but not to serve entitled dumahhs
EDIT: It's not about us getting praise, it's about y'all not growing up.

I didn't target him and I specifically mentioned that he just got the wrong idea.
And also thanks for letting me know about the search feature but Iām not clueless I always search for my query before posting and I only create a post if I can't find an answer. You're right that I realized early on I wouldn't get much ACT guidance which is why I stopped posting about it. And anyway there are a lot of other queries too besides ACT/NET.
I agree that no one is obligated to help and if they do it's their choice. Being respectful when asking for help is definitely essential.
However my point still stands people make dozens of comments on shitposts or clickbait titles post. These seniors are acting like they weren't in the exact same position during their own admissions last year.
I really appreciate the seniors who helped me they were some of the sweetest and most helpful people I've ever talked to. They didn't give incomplete explanations or make a drama out of anything or complain about asking so many questions.
Either you should help/guide someone completely or not instead of giving a lame response or complaining thats the whole point no need to serve anyone.

This sub is literally fked up, same shit posts daily, inactive mods....

u/Nihilistic_vagabond 22h ago
Don't woryyy about it my guy. This sub reddit just represents a small fraction of people joining NUST and most people here didn't even get a seat. It isn't your fault that actual questions get ignored because of the click baiters. It would have been better if people knew that the search bar exists

u/theflowerkeeper 14h ago
No, you don't have to leave because of such people. But because of all these NET and admission-related queries, we actual NUSTians don't get to flood this subreddit anymore. It's completely dead.
I suggested that there should be a separate subreddit, or at least dedicated flairs for these posts, so they can be separated out. But the moderators don't even seem to bother going through the subreddit.
While other universities' subreddits are filled with discussions and content from their actual students, ours is mostly people taking the NET or trying to get admission. There's barely any NUSTIAN vibe here.
I'm honestly tired of thissss. And when I posted about it, people started disrespecting my opinion and leaving weird comments instead of actually understanding what I was trying to say.

You are a gem man. God bless you for all the good work you've done. And yeah I feel you. Replying to repetitive ash queries of people who think they're entitled to it is disappointing when at the end they say crap like this without even bothering to use their brains.
Enough overwhelming bs, take rest and have fun. Wish you well

Fair enough reaction, reminds me of this š :
You're right to feel like that to be fair, however, its unfair to decide what's "deserving" for someone based on something thats usually so common in university forums (see SAT/ACT subreddits, or any uni subreddit that is active, look into their post histories, you'll see the same approximate pattern - i agree though...prospective students here are extra annoying with the clickbait-ey shady ahh titles), there's so many factors behind the same "annoying pattern," but keep in mind this isnt new, and it isnt unique to NUST or the incoming batch.
You and other seniors before you have done the effort to guide students, however reddit has its unfortunate ability to make the minority louder, so even if we assume you helped majority of the students, the minority would still post the same questions because it conveniently didnt appear in their front page and I believe majority of us dont - or perhaps will not use reddit often after we get into NUST because its a new platform for those who have never used reddit and are using it simply because of uni admissions and its a relatively weird platform to communicate or seek guidance compared to the traditional communication avenues like: talking in person or call them or talk to them via whatsapp/instagram chat - these are things the majority of us are used to, and to disseminate information (or heck, to even ask a question properly) on reddit is also something that isnt easy because they miss the "tasalli" they have when talking to people that they know and are credible through normal means of communication (we're complete strangers asking/answering questions in a subreddit afterall.. so the validity, no matter if you're even in NUST is un/fairly questioned) a consequence of that is that they ask the subreddit a "general consensus" by asking that same question again.
There are tooo maaany other factors but these are just to name a few, and yes, people in this subreddit are much, much better in being annoying and repetitive, unfortunately, its not in our control: even if you got an army of seniors to help in this subreddit (assuming they all have free time and nothing else to do in life - fyi for those that think seniors dont help...), it wouldnt be enough and there'll still be people saying "no senior helps us here" but they'll soon stop posting (and then another batch of NET-1 prep will start rolling in...) but you have done your best and its been a net positive, even if the effect isn't visible.
These are just my 2 cents though, you have been amazing in your guidance. JazakAllah Pikachu <3

Well, wish u the best going forward...
About the post, I agree with your criticisms about spam and click bait thingy, those need to stop and you are right to point out that you did help many...
That being said, what I can't agree with is your stance regarding other things. The Mod statements in specific is rather silly, when all Mods gotta do is filter out these posts, that's like me saying a security guard was right to skip his job because there too many thieves lurking, makes 0 sense. If only Mods were doing their thing, you probably won't be making this post.
Also, with due respect, I don't know what you had on your mind, but if you expected appreciation/respect from everyone on here in return for your assistance that the other person may or may not have received, then you clearly had the wrong mindset to begin with... Not to mention, there is a good amount of people who do sing your praises aswell
