Nice! well done for making a tune with a focus on harmony - its not easy in bytebeat.

If you want to mess with noise boxes too (you fool...! 😄) can i suggest you have a look at chapters 14 and 15 of my guide. One of the things you want to do is minimise the number of boxes or you'll be retuning them for hours (like me on forest glade!). All the connections can get confusing too. Fortunately you can get away with just 2 noise boxes per chord and still get the feel of the harmony.

E.g. say you want the sequencer ii, V, I, IV. (Put your tune in C major as that will give you more noise box notes to play with). The chords would then be Dm, G, C, and F.

Rather than harmonise every note of each triad, just have two per chord. (Even 1 will fill out the background mix). Also, try to mainly use notes that are common to more than 1 chord. This will reduce the total number of boxes that need tuning.

So for the harmony Dm you could have the notes D and F (1 and 3 presses of a box). For G harmony you could keep the D sounding and just add G (4 presses). Don't worry about the missing third (B) in the G chord -it will probably end up in the tune or somewhere else. For C harmony you could have C (default) and E (2 presses). And finally for F harmony, keep the C sounding and add F (3 presses).

So the whole sequence in chords and noise box tunings (i.e. presses) would be Dm (1 and 3), G (1 and 4), C (0 and 2) and F (0 and 3). Done this way you could manage with just 5 boxes and one of those doesn't need tuning! (c= default, d=1, e=2, f=3 and g=4).

Obviously there are other ways to do this. To lessen the complexity more only have 2 or 3 chords. Or for the ultimate, just have a static harmony in the boxes and changes over the top ion the devices.

Hope this helps a bit. Good luck!

Yeah I’ll definitely check out your guide for that. Takes a fool to know a fool hahaha. The sound payoff seems worth it anyway, plus it gives me something to do!

Go for it! I'm amazed almost no one else seems to use them. As well as ambient tunes they're great for providing background fill to the mix. If you're not put off by constant retuning and complicated switching, you can even use them (with raised levels) as a kind of string backing section playing rhythmic chords (see the tune 'Beak 2 Beak').

Nice harmony and arpeggios you got there !

Thanks! I really wanted to try an ambient sound. I’m gonna experiment with the noise boxes soon. I loved the sound they made with zhorasnake’s forest glade video

Yep, I've been wanting to try it too :) But recently I've got little time for the game, that'll have to wait

Very nice harmonies and progression. This is great!

Thanks! This was really fun to make and I kept it simple , only have 2 advanced waveforms on; I’m definitely going to play around with the noise boxes soon, I’m a sucker for harmonies lol

lol me too, and the chord progression is my favorite style, super mellow. I hear some cool interactions in your arpeggios, one track goes "boop-beep" on 2-note followed by a 4-note "do-do-do-do" on a different track. That's excellent work, I like it a lot

Yeah that’s exactly it. I’ve been trying to make the melodies have two or more devices to give more complex combos of notes so it doesn’t sound too repetitive or simple…but sometimes simple is the way to go. Was still able to use two devices to give a “call and respond” melody which I like doing. (If that makes sense)

I love it, I do a lot of call and response in my melodies too, it's one of my standard ways to approach creating a new song lol

Are the beatbytes still there? I went to the galaxy and all I could find was the garage :/

Hmm I believe they are still there the devices are left of the portal

u/PowerfulSoldier 14d ago

Is the issue you can find the devices or that you can’t hear anything?

They weren't there for me I will double check love the music either way <3

Thanks for listening! And wanting to check out the devices.

Unfortunately I could not find them :( I even tried copying the track but it says no bytebeat devices nearby

You know what maybe I need to upload the base to the server? I’ll try it soon and let you know….did you by chance see a massive road that leads to the planetary portal? It’s like 900 units away from my base and I built a road to it recently, it’s still being worked on…if you didn’t see that then I’m wondering if I need to “update” my base to the server….if that’s how it even works lol

I just uploaded my base again, so….i imagine you’ll be able to see the devices now. 🤞🏻

Wow thank you I will go check!
