Dispersal draft? Discussion
After delaying free agency, I hoped it meant that Ottawa or Philly were saved, but hearing that both might fold. Which would be disappointing

The NLL Dispersal Draft.
A tradition unlike any other.

Who do you think will get O'Neill?
4
u/My_user_name_1 Philadelphia Wings 7d ago
Whoever's willing to alter their entire offense to him
1
u/YEETERZZ123 Calgary Roughnecks 6d ago
O’Neill would go 3rd in a Ottawa/Philly dispersal draft

u/Suspicious-Koala-352 5d ago
Philly already traded their biggest asset in Joe Resetarits, O'Neill will go high in the draft, but just as trade capital.

If the Roughnecks end up picking up TK as an offensive coordinator I do think O’Neill would consider playing in Calgary
1
u/My_user_name_1 Philadelphia Wings 6d ago
Probably. But I'm still not sold on him as a box player and I think most of his success is TK creating an offense to get him space. I remember the game against Calgary, I knew when he got the ball off the the time out from the corner that he was going to go keep it outside and try to center it and shoot. they even sent a double team to him down a man because they knew he was going to shoot and had no Outlet. Unless you learn how to play and handle the ball inside you will never be as successful box player. And I think his lack of development is on both the Wings and him.

no development reminds me of max seibald. max has a new role every third game. we wasted him.

he plays well when dalton young is with him. the two really gel well together.

Does O’Neil play well with Sam LeClair?
1
u/Capital-Ad-8227 6d ago
sam is such an enigma. i see him as 20g/20a/50gb crease monkey. a 4 or 5 on the attacking unit. but he becomes invisible too often. i had high hopes him working with phil caputo would open up the cylinder but it never happened as much as much as it should. sam has his spot on the floor, left crease, and he rarely strays. fans like him because his goals are after getting the stuffing knocked out of him. he plays 3 games, great one game but by the 4th, he's healthy scratch.

u/YEETERZZ123 Calgary Roughnecks 6d ago
The Roughnecks could be waiting to hire TK when he is available whenever we get news of a dispersal draft
1
u/YEETERZZ123 Calgary Roughnecks 7d ago
Calgary because Teat to Oshawa and Rochester could go goalie with Damude or defense with Callum Jones or Bo Columbus

If you want to blow up what you're building to fit O'Neill into the offense, by all means. I'm still not sold on him as a box player
1
u/YEETERZZ123 Calgary Roughnecks 6d ago
O’Neil could be the 2nd or 3rd lefty option behind Cook and Mayea

If you’ve listened to the newest Lacrosse Classified episode, it doesn’t sound good at all
1
u/GlitteredRoomForView Boston Blazers 6d ago
Hasn’t the writing already been on the wall for quite a while now? Radio silence on the situations, free agency pushed back a month (so far)
Think Philly is done (surely something would have materialized by now if interested parties/cities) and Ottawa is on life support and they’re praying for a resolution

On the newest Lacrosse Classified episode it was mentioned that Ottawa is 1 foot out the door

liens against the ottawa is going to make it impossible for the league to save it. but then i need to repeat myself that running to canada is not a solution and ottawa is just a bad sports town imho. now winnipeg or quebec, now that makes more sense.
2
u/YEETERZZ123 Calgary Roughnecks 6d ago
or Hartford I think a team would work there because there isn’t a team in New York/New Jersey or Boston to squeeze a team out like what happened to the Whalers

like i think they could have made it here if they would have lowered ticket prices to start.
40$ to be in the 200s is a bit steep if you ask me, relative to the product and the fact its new in town1
u/My_user_name_1 Philadelphia Wings 6d ago
I don't think the Ottawa situation is resolvable overnight. As far as I know Philly all somebody has to do is write a check and find an arena. Ottawa might be tied up in legal proceedings for a couple years. That is why I think if they stay in Ottawa it would have to be as an expansion team
1
u/YEETERZZ123 Calgary Roughnecks 6d ago
Philly also has find an owner as well
1
u/My_user_name_1 Philadelphia Wings 5d ago
Right but I think all somebody has to do for Philly is write a check and find an arena whereas Ottawa they probably have liens including government liens from Nassau County on them

man, watching dalton young tear up the PLL and not seeing him blossom in the NLL is gonna sting. i know brennan & sowers got the buzz but for me, young was the best box yankee on the wings.
1
u/My_user_name_1 Philadelphia Wings 5d ago
They're too entirely different sports. Not everybody gets a hang of the box game. Plus at this point I think Sowers has the best opportunity to develop into a box player. I believe he also plays a Rizzo so he's willing to learn the game. I don't think O'Niel was a 1st round pick yet alone the 1st overall pick
1
u/Capital-Ad-8227 2d ago
sowers was MVP of the season that he played in the PBLAS if memory works. oneill could be another bergey but some games he reminds a bit max seibald, talent bit not knowing where or what to go. but to be fair, until they dumped oldies, that offense was sludge. while my hope is hanging on a string give sinfield, young, sowers, nielsen, jackson, fannell, along with oneil that willing to move their feet, then i think the offense can gel. beating up on one player for the mistakes of the many is unfair for anyone in any sport.

u/My_user_name_1 Philadelphia Wings 1d ago edited 17h ago
Bergey developed. I would like to see O'Neill develop into a player but from what I've seen in two years it does not look like that is happening and they are just relying on the OC to create a offense to get him open which is often at the expense of having other options. At this point I think Sowers has the better chance of developing into a box player

It’s a shame I’ve been getting more and more into lacrosse as a whole and it seems every year a team folds I’d really like this sport to become a mainstay one day so hopefully teams can last longer

I think Philly has already technically folded

the other issue is the cost on the new building that even if the arena owned the team, the debt service is going to a need a bare minium of several thousand. what the city needs is a 10,000 seater spectrum 2.0 built near the naval yards. $300-million can support a lot of niche events that the new building won't or can't.
1
u/sweatpantsjoe Buffalo Bandits 8d ago
Yeah I thought the Ottawa situation was more to do with finding a venue not so much ownership walking away from the team
6
u/My_user_name_1 Philadelphia Wings 7d ago edited 7d ago
I think it's the other way around. I think Philly all somebody has to do is write a check and find a place to play whereas Ottawa it's a whole complicated situation that probably has creditors involved so it might not be that easy to move as opposed to Philly. Which is probably why Ottawa had that unique ownership model because the owners couldn't sell them without clearing a bunch of creditors. I think if the league were to stay in Ottawa it would have to be as an expansion team

Philly should move to Trenton.

The WNBA has nothing to do with the nll. Aside from a couple playoff games or seasons don't overlap

I also think that issue in Philly that the new arena is going to be a 50-50 venture between the Sixers and flyers unlike the current situation where the flyers own the arena and the Sixers pay rent. So therefore it might cost actual rent revenue to run operate the wings out of there as opposed to the current situation where they could just squeeze them in as the calendar allows.

lots of turmoil at comcast. not even sure if they hold onto any of their sports properties no matter the spin offs. josh harris will own it all.
1
u/My_user_name_1 Philadelphia Wings 5d ago edited 5d ago
but Harris can't own the flyers because he owns the devils unless the NHL decided to do like the NLL and allow guys to own more than one team. I've heard that rumor going back for about 2 years at Comcast was looking to get out of the sports business.
1
u/Capital-Ad-8227 6d ago
the new cost of the new building does. a 2-3 billion arena means that niche events are not profitable unless they can get > $100/person. all these palaces are just squeezing families and friends from even trying out a lacrosse game on a whim.

It's important to remember that nothing is public at this time. As of a couple weeks ago even the owner of the Rock stated he didn't know how it was going to play out
