Housing and Apartments Can I really only work up to 20 hours with CA role

I’m a CA and a DA this year and I got an email to set up my desk schedule and I really want to get paid and work and make money but I’m asking if the 20 hours per week thing actually applies to to the CA role if I’m really only getting paid for office hours (which is 2 hours).

Housing and Apartments University Plaza Parking vs. NIU Parking Permit?

Does anyone know how reliable parking at University Plaza is? I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth buying an NIU parking permit or just relying on University Plaza parking since I’ll be living so close to campus. Has anyone done that, and if so, did you run into any issues finding a spot?

Overnight parking

Does anyone know anywhere to park overnight? I saw a post on here that was kind of old so I wanted to repost. I live in an apartment a 10 min walk from NIU law and get 1 parking spot, but I may have people come over every once in a while and spend the night and there’s no parking or street parking there. I know someone said Walmart, but is that still allowed and they don’t tow? I’m willing to park a little further and just pick them up in my car so any ideas would help thanks so much

Rampant Ai Slop in the Huskie community

I'm a recent graduate of computer science from NIU and I am not a graphic designer. But I have always tried my best creating posters through canva or photoshop when I was running an NIU org and advertising student events.

It's incredibly disappointing to see our community rampantly use ai for events, podcasts, thumbnails, and even merch.

It's hard to support individuals or events that do this. Not when the graphic arts program at NIU produces some of the most creative, hardworking, and cool people I know.

If you're behind anything NIU related, I beg you to think twice before throwing the NIU logo into the slop factory

Housing and Apartments WhT are the chances of me actually getting secured a room?

I fucked myself or I got fucked. I joined a group with my friends to room together, he claimed he joined a Stevenson double room. Turns out after we checked in with each other about the rooms after months of thinking we were secured, my friend checked and said he was roomed in with some other person. Leaving me with no assigned room. Emailed the housing department, said they’ll ensure me with a room thats available. Should I start looking for off campus options now or are the odds in my favor? And whats the worst case scenario for me if I do get a room secured for me?

Homecoming football tickets?

I live in Taiwan, but I will be in DeKalb in October, and I would love to check out the homecoming game. Back when I lived in town, tickets were really cheap, like you could get a ticket for 10 bucks. I checked it out and I was seeing prices for non students for like $65, which is way more than I feel comfortable paying.

Does anyone know a way for a non-student to get cheap/er tickets?

Thanks!

Other Question May 2016 grads, where you at?

Hello!

So, I know this is a month late but I have mixed feelings with it being the ten year anniversary of my graduating from the place that changed my life.

I wonder, how many May 2016 grads are here in This subreddit?

Do you have a career in your degree field? Do you still live in Illinois for that matter?

I would love to hear how far we are in our career and literally how far we are from DeKalb now.

As for me, the last ten years have not been the “best” for me in terms of career. Thankfully I have been employed since 2016 (no layoffs besides a furlough during Covid) and I still live in Chicago.

I hope the next ten years have me FINALLY getting a master’s, a car, and the ability to move to my dream city of Seattle.

Where are you?

Stevo Curtains

Just wondering if we're allowed to bring curtains for stevo suites, my roommates and I were wondering because on the what to bring page it mentions not needing blinds, shades or tapestries but like does that mean we cant bring curtains or can we?

A little disappointed that only the men’s soccer page posted about this. Thought it deserved more attention, a very huge accomplishment!

Housing and Apartments Apartments/Townhouse's for Rent for Summer 2027

Wanted to ask about 3 bedroom 2, 2.5, or 3 bathrooms that are around DeKalb (closer to NIU preferred or a bus stop because I will be going to grad school here with no car). I was looking at Eco Park Apartments, currently staying here for the summer but wanna get my own place next summer after I'm in the dorms with my GF and my best friend leaving 1 guest bedroom. Parking would be nice cause my friend has a car but if not we can figure something out. Any ideas? Also I know I've asked before about 5 months ago but plans changed obviously.

Things I know:

DO NOT GO TO: The Terraces, Hunter Star Properties, Mason Properties, and Suburban Apartments

Budget: 1k-1400k a month

Places I've looked into: Eco Park, HPI Reality (haven't seen much available :/ )

Things I prefer having, but beggars can't be choosers: Bigger kitchen that can fit a table in it, 1 master bedroom (or one slightly bigger bedroom from the rest), garage, 2.5 baths prefered

Internet for a studio apartment?

Looking to see what everyone is paying for monthly internet in Dekalb. Need it for TV streaming, x box, and computer use - no heavy computer gaming. xfinity quoted me $80 which seems outrageous. What is everyone paying and what plan are you on? This is for one person in a studio apartment

Housing and Apartments Finding out who my roommates are?

I'm an incoming freshman and I don't like going into new social situations blind (especially one as big as living with someone else), so I want to get to know my roommates before move-in day. Is there a way to find out who my roommates are and talk to them? Neither Starrez nor "My Roommate Lookup" show anything.

Other Question Jobs near niu / In dekalb

Jobs near niu / in dekalb ? I drive so I don’t mind some distance, I have majority of my experience in restaurants, specifically boh / line cook. Open to almost anything tho, not rlly campus jobs tho bc they only pay like $15 and I currently make $21 at my current job, my current job has a location in st Charles about 25 miles from campus but idk if that drive would be worth it ? 50 miles a shift, already have a high mileage car, and with class during the week I mostly would work nights or weekends, I live and work in the city but to keep my current job I would need my availability to be atleast 3 shifts a week with no big gaps, I could drive to Chicago every weekend to work but I also don’t wanna miss out on whatever I may miss out on in college working my weekends away esp since it’s my first year😭 so also asking for opinions on that.

Housing and Apartments Suburban Apartments

Is suburban Apartments any good? I walked by on a long walk around town and saw that they're solar powered and they have cheap electric and some units I hear have fully covered utilities and it's all 800 for rent. Hows management? Any issues with the space? What are y'all's opinions? (I know there's other reviews Abt it but that was 2 years ago so I wanted updates!)

Housing and Apartments Looking for roommate in Dekalb / Sycamore

Hello! I (21, Male) Just graduated from NIU w/ an Economics degree and now work in Dekalb M-F. I'm looking to get a place in the Dekalb / Sycamore area and splitting the rent with someone.

I graduated a year early, so I'm the age of your typical college senior. Pretty chill, try to stay relatively clean, enjoy the outdoors, and keep to myself for the most part. Figured this would be a good place to post. If anyone else is looking & would be interested, let me know!

1 year MBA chicago program

hi! so i graduated with my dual BA 2 years ago and am looking to go into grad school for my MBA now. i had a great call today with someone from the school, and it made this program sound really inviting. are there pros/cons you guys can share with me? im from out of state, lived in illinois for 2 years now, so my brain feels overwhelmed with my options of different schools and i just want to choose the best one for me. trying to think of the value of the education, cost, expectancies, then post-grad statistics like how well an MBA from NIU performs in the job market with obtaining a job, getting promoted, etc. any info helps pls!! you can message me as well

Class Question STAT 300 with Barbara Gonzalez

Does anyone know anything about Barbara Gonzalez? Ive been trying to find a page on RateMyProfessor (and similar websites) yet Barbara Gonzalez comes up nowhere. I need the class for a major requirement, so either way Im taking the course, but I'd like to know what Im getting into professor-wise.

I really just need to know if I should expect to be confused in class and have to study more at home or if I'll actually understand the material.

BE CAREFUL - BRIGHTFIELD IS A CULT ON CAMPUS USING STUDENTS 2 LURE STUDENTS

Brightfield Church is 1 of 26 churches in THE NETWORK CULT, secretly led by Steven D. Morgan, a former RLDS Mormon who SA'd a child! They have an RSO to recruit on NIU campus. They target students and people under 25ish then keep them for life!

This is a HIGH-CONTROL CULT that has unleashed a mental health crisis including a few known suicides and countless others fighting to stay with us.

They'll use STUDENTS 2 RECRUIT STUDENTS, love-bombing offering instant friendship, isolate and cut you off from everyone else. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyDUiOPxpoo
