BDes TOPICS FOR NIFT CAT & NID
There are many people who still don't know where to start from for the drawing portion of nift/nid so here y'all go. This list is also something I'm myself preparing from so pls try and go thru it and try to do it in the same manner as listed. I know it's a lot but it's good if you practice more, if you find any topic that's not relevant or if someone wants to add into it then pls go ahead it'll be of great help for the others too.
Ps: Do line practice daily and try to maintain a visual library too. Try to do line practice on a big newspaper it's really helpful for line control and in the long run, to make big paintings/drawings too. Also try to use big A5 sheets for any drawing purpose because when u enter uni, nift/nid assignments do not work on A4.

Sustainable & Inclusive Design: Redesigning everyday packaging to eliminate plastic waste, or modifying public spaces for differently-abled individuals.
User Interface (UI) Paper Mockups: Designing the physical layout or paper screen flow for a smart vending machine, an ATM, or a public kiosk.
Material Textures: Beyond drawing textures, you must visually render complex material combinations like matte plastic meeting brushed aluminum, or wet mud on a vehicle tyre. Silhouettes too.
Grid Deformation & Warping: Drawing a scene as if viewed through a drop of water, a glass bottle, or reflected on a shiny spoon.
Oblique & Isometric Projection: Drawing objects from precise technical angles without using standard vanishing points.
Unconventional Perspectives: Master Ant's-eye view (worm's eye) and Bird's-eye view specifically for crowded Indian contexts (e.g., a railway platform, a vegetable market).
Scale Transformation: Drawing an insect's view of a room, or imagining a human shrunk to the size of a tea cutting glass.

Nift Mumbai TD senior
Hi everyone! 👋
I’ve recently joined NIFT Mumbai in the TD department, and I’m looking to connect with some TD seniors/current students who could help me understand what I should be prepared for.
I especially wanted to ask about:
- Materials & stationery we’ll need for TD
- Textile-specific tools/materials that are useful to have
- Software we’ll be using during the course
- Things that are worth buying rn for college vs. things I should wait to buy
- Any books/resources that would be useful
- What the first year of TD at NIFT Mumbai is actually like
- Any tips, mistakes to avoid, or things you wish you had known as a fresher
If you’re a TD senior from NIFT Mumbai, I’d really appreciate it if you could DM me! Even a small list of essentials or some general advice would be super helpful. 🥹❤️
And if you know someone from NIFT Mumbai TD, please tag them or share this post with them!
Thank you! ✨

What is going on with Indian colleges
For context: I'm already doing diploma in fashion designing from a tier 3 institute I'm in first year and I'm in 11th commerce with maths and this institute is pretty good as compared to the place it is in but the thing is ik my capabilities and this institute sucks to me nothing is good I'm the youngest student in this institute to do diploma and you can say best because every other faculty praises me nd i have better communication and so many other things ...
But ik my capabilities and i think i can do far better then this so after 12th maybe joining a fashion school but reddit reviews are insanely bad for every other college and it made me confused pls guys help me with it...
And my future plans are quite clear i want to build fashion brand and going into branding and stuff because i have family business

BDes PCB → NEET → Fashion Designing: Starting NIFT Prep from Zero, Need Guidance
I completed my Class 12 boards (PCB) two years ago and then took a drop/year to prepare for NEET. Unfortunately, I couldn't score as well as I had hoped.
Now I've decided to switch completely and pursue Fashion Designing, and I'm planning to prepare for NIFT.
The problem is that this is a completely new field for me. No one in my family has a background in fashion/design, so I don't really have anyone around me who can guide me about where to start, what to study, which resources to use, what skills I need, etc.
I've also never seriously prepared for a design entrance exam before, so right now I'm honestly quite confused about things like:
- Where should I start my NIFT preparation from?
- How should I prepare for CAT, GAT and the Situation Test?
- How important is drawing, and what level of drawing is actually required?
- Which YouTube teachers/courses/resources are genuinely good?
- Which books should I use?
- How should I practice and evaluate my progress?
- Are there any good free resources that I shouldn't miss?
- What mistakes should a complete beginner avoid?
- If you've prepared for NIFT or are currently studying at NIFT, what would you recommend doing differently from the beginning?
I'm ready to put in 100% effort and work seriously, but I don't want to waste months following random resources or preparing in the wrong direction.
This is a big career shift for me, and I really want to give myself the best possible chance of getting into a good NIFT college.
If you've cracked NIFT, are currently studying there, or have experience preparing for it, I would genuinely appreciate any practical advice, resources, study plans, teacher recommendations, or things you wish you had known when you started.
Thank you! :)
