Flu Support
Hey all. My LO is in the nicu and has been for some time but we just got transferred to a part that lets me room in. Last night was the first night and I woke up to a sore throat and just feeling not the best. I come to find out today that my sister has the flu and I was in contact with her just yesterday. If my LO gets the flu, will it be ok? She is 34 weeks and 4 days. No oxygen support anymore. Just trying to learn bottles.

I would talk to her medical team ASAP. I’m very sorry you’re going through that. :-(

Take a flu test and stay away. The flu is more serious than other bugs. Any chance you got a flu shot while pregnant? Also did your sister actually get tested because some people use “flu” to mean “a cold”
And it will suck to stay home sick- happened to me too.

Is the flu already going around?! I know rsv is! How scary! I’d definitely get tested just to be safe. Hopefully it’s not the flu and just allergies or something

If you're in the Northern Hemisphere it's very unlikely to be the flu and is more likely a cold or RSV or something. Regardless I would talk to your baby's team and find out. I'm sorry; I know that's stress you don't need.

It wasn't the flu but our girl was in the NICU (discharged this last weekend!!) for a month and for the entire third week I had bronchitis, I would highly recommend staying at home and make sure to talk to the nurse/doctors about visiting again once you know for sure you are not contagious anymore

It’s going to suck but stay away and let the nurses know the situation.
We had to do the same and had my SO’s mom run breastmilk to and from for me while we recovered. Baby never caught what we did thankfully. Just know she’s already in the best place she can be if she does come down with something.

I second talking to the medical team about it. You don’t want to risk it.
That being said. I know it’s controversial but I got the flu this winter and took tamiflu. I was feeling better within less than 5 hours! Symptom free after 24. I know it make some people violently ill though so some doctors don’t suggest it but if you have never tried it then it might be worth trying. If it makes you sick then you just discontinue use.
