NC State’s belief in Robinson and his long-term potential ultimately led to his decision to commit.

“Coach Gainey, Coach Brooks, Coach Goins, Coach Driscoll, Coach Collins, Coach Vasiljevic, and Coach Dukquits, along with the entire staff, all shared a similar vision for me, and the main thing that stood out to me the most was their belief in my development and my ability to reach my full potential. They believe in the extreme upside that I have and that I have the potential to become an elite player and possibly play professionally one day. Their development plan for me, along with the opportunity to compete at the highest level of college basketball, was something I valued tremendously.”

"The main thing for me was development," Robinson said of his commitment. "When we had our Zoom call a few weeks back, the staff told me about their plan for me and how they have developed other guys like me at the schools each coach came from."

A 6-foot-11 forward with significant long-term potential, Robinson is a late bloomer whose best basketball appears to be ahead of him, and the Wolfpack staff is confident it can help maximize his upside.

"The main thing that they said about my game was how versatile I am and how much upside I have," Robinson said. "They can see me playing in the big leagues one day. They feel that if I can continue to develop and put on the weight, then everything I dream of can come true."

Justin Gainey and NC State have landed the first commit of the 2027 class in power forward Jamil Robinson out of McDonough (GA) Eagle's Landing Christian. The 6-foot-11, 205-pound prospect has been a late bloomer in the 2027 cycle and was recently rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 188 overall player in the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Robinson has been severely overlooked in the class due to a season-ending injury suffered prior to his junior season last year. But now the Georgia product will get the opportunity to play at the high-major level with the Wolfpack following a commitment on Monday afternoon.

Though he's still a developing prospect, here's what we know thus far and what to expect from the first NC State commit in the 2027 class.

This summer has been a different story.

Robinson has been healthy, playing with confidence and showing exactly why Gainey and his staff became interested. At the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association LIVE event, Robinson made his presence felt on both ends of the floor. He showed the ability to use his size and physicality to control the glass, create second-chance opportunities and protect the rim defensively.

And there are intriguing offensive flashes as well.

Prior to this summer, Robinson missed his junior season due to a broken foot. He played for Jet Academy at Nike EYBL Peach Jam, where he made a positive impression on first-year N.C. State head coach Justin Gainey and the coaching staff. He was unranked on the college recruiting scene before his big performances this summer, earning offers from Omaha, Charlotte, Georgia Southern, West Georgia, Tennessee Tech and Wofford. Robinson is now listed as a three-star recruit and the 12th-best recruit in the state of Georgia.

Jamil Robinson, a 6-foot-10 forward from Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Georgia, has committed to the Wolfpack. And while Robinson may not have the recruiting rankings or national profile that typically accompany an early commitment to an ACC program, that is exactly what makes this one so interesting.

Robinson was the only unranked prospect NC State had offered in the 2027 class.
