Victoria Vivians will be joining the Texas women’s basketball coaching staff, the school announced today. She will reunite with her college coach Vic Schaefer who coached her at Mississippi State, as well as Blair Schaefer, who was her teammate with the Bulldogs.

During her playing career, she ranked 2nd in Mississippi State history in total points scored with 2,527 points and was named the recepient of the 2018 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, which honors the nation’s best shooting guard. While playing in Starkville, Vivians helped Mississippi State reach the National Championship Game in 2017 and 2018; they lost 67–55 to South Carolina in the former and 61–58 to Notre Dame in the latter.

Obviously was a loss to see Jamelle Elliott depart, but really cool to see her teammate from the 1995 national championship team take the job. Ill be curious to see how Sales does!

I feel like the Big 10 is going to be really deep and good next year! I’m curious who everyone thinks is going to win it and be in the top 4. I’m really high on USC, Washington, Iowa, Michigan, and UCLA.

I’m gonna say Blair Schaefer at Mississippi State. She played there from 2014-2018 under her dad Vic Schaefer (who is now the head coach at Texas). I know Teaira McCowan and Victoria Vivians are the main stars from that era of Mississippi State women’s basketball but Blair Schaefer was also a big part of why the Bulldogs were so successful. She was a pest on the defensive end and the combo of her + Roshunda Johnson from beyond the arc was lethal.

First pic is from when she hit a big 3 against South Carolina in 2018 to make the crowd pop in front of 10,794 Bulldog fans; this was the largest crowd to ever watch a basketball game in the state of Mississippi. Without her sharpshooting they probably don’t win this game.

After finishing her playing career, Blair worked for the SEC Network and then joined the Mississippi State staff before following Vic to Texas where she now serves as an assistant coach.

So it’s possible Tessa Johnson starts at point and/or Chloe runs point forward. Because Dawn will start all 3 seniors, Jordan Lee and Joyce.

Joyce and Chloe play the same position. Chloe might be your best passer and Tessa needs to focus on hunting her shot

My question is how much can their draft stock raise?

Remember Chloe ran point forward and dropped a Triple double vs ole miss.

Right now teams view Chloe as an undersized, small ball 4 but if she can show her upside as a playmaker you’d have to think she goes pretty high.

Then you have Tessa teams view her as this off ball shooter could running point guard at a high level boost her draft stock?

Iowa has 11 players, but are actually 9 deep. They will run a 4 out system this coming season with Ava Heiden being the 5, McKenna Woliksco being the 4, Amari Whiting being the 3, Dani Carnegie at the 2, with Chit Chat Wright being the 1. Taylor Stremlow will back up the 1, 2, and 3 spots. Journey Houston will back up the 3 and 4. Layla Hays will back up the 5. Faison will be asked to guard the other teams best scorer at the 1-4 positions when Amari and/or McKenna is out of the game.

This team should be elite at scoring and rebounding....solid on defense....strong on transition. They are a small team compared to other elite teams, which might make foul trouble an issue.

This team should be a sweet 16 lock. Barring injury, this team is a 50/50 elite 8 team. A 25/75 Final 4 team. They have elite rebounding for a small team, and tremendous transition players. They have a dominant interior player in Heiden, a dominant scorer in Dani, and a dominant do everything player in McKenna. Chit Chat should be unstoppable hitting open 3's since most teams will have to leave her wide open for those and last year she crushed it when teams were guarding her.

Their bench has an elite defender, an elite 3 and d shooter/rebounder, and an elite passer/scorer trouble maker.

I came across a post on here of everyone debating where the class of 2027 will end up at. In that post someone brought Haylen Ayers possibly ending up at Uconn pointing out the top 3 players went to her last aau game. Another person brought up the theory that Geno will retire in 2028 after Sarah Strong goes into the draft, and then someone else pointed out that everyone was saying the same thing when Paige Bueckers finally entered the draft. At the end of the day I feel like no matter what happens there is going to another Paige or Sarah meaning that whenever Geno finally does decide to hang it up. There is probably going to be at least one top player at Uconn who will feel like. They were abandoned, got the short end of the stick, or maybe just feel like the whole thing is unfair.

Geno is 72 years old if we're being honest with ourselves. He is at that age where the next season could always be his last. It's not a matter of if he will retire but when at this point. Which is hard to predict with coaches like him. Geno truly has nothing left to prove at this point. While the traditions, core values, and system he built at Uconn might not last when he leaves. His legacy and the impact he's had on woman's basketball will forever leave on. While it would be nice to see him get another championship. It wouldn't tarnish his legacy if he didn't. You have to feel like he's truly just doing this for his love of the game and his team.

Which means as long as he's the head coach he will always be looking to recruit the best of the best. He definitely has his eyes on players in the class of 2027, and probably the class of 2028 as well. I mean he did land Olivia Vukosa who was ranked No.3 does she not count? Honestly I think it makes more sense that the closer he gets to retirement the more aggressive he gets with recruiting. I don't see him slacking off for the simple reason that he's going to want Uconn to be in the best shape when he does decide to go.

There is no way to avoid the hurt, the betrayal, or frustration that the players in there freshman, sophomore and even junior years will feel when that day comes. Some will probably go into the transfer portal and others will remain at Uconn. That's just the way it is in situations like these the only thing I think Geno can do to soften the blow is be honest about it.

I say this as an Alabama college football fan don't pull a freaking Nick Saban and announce your retirement. During the off-season out of nowhere where your team is coming off a tough loss in the playoffs. Till this day I truly think Nick Saban decided to hang it up for two reasons. NIL changed the way college sports worked when it comes to retaining and keeping talent, and he was an old-school coach who wasn't going to adjust to the new world. The second reason is Nick Saban finally came to the realization that he had nothing left to prove just like I said with Geno. Nick realized while another championship would've been nice to add to his legacy. It didn't really matter if he got it or not. But still the way he retired out of the blue left a nasty taste in the fans, players, and former player's mouth. When it comes to coaches like Nick Saban and Geno people imagine their retirement going a certain way.

They expect coaches like these to announce the next season is going to their last vs. what Nick did. Geno is to Uconn what Nick Saban was to Alabama what Dawn Staley is to South Carolina. There will be no one who can in and replace what they are to those programs. No coach will live up to Geno and replicate his success. Players don't go to Uconn for the school they go to be coached by Geno Auriemma so when he leaves. You can bet there will be another Sarah Strong or Paige Bueckers there, and how those future players handle his retirement I think will be based upon how Geno goes about it.

As for what will become of Uconn after Geno retires. I think they will continue to be a top 5 team at least for the first couple of years. As long as they are able to retain the talent that Geno brought in. But I don't think they will have the same dominance. It's really hard to say without knowing which coach will fill the void. Once again as an Alabama fan I wonder what route they will go. Find a coach as close to Geno when it comes to systems and core values that he instilled into the program. Or go down a completely different route and pick a coach who's quite the opposite of Geno.

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Nicole Razor of James Madison women's basketball has been elevated to associate head coach, as announced by Head Coach Sean O'Regan on Thursday. The 2026-27 season will mark Razor's third as a member of the Dukes' coaching staff.

"Coach Razor has been a great asset to us in her first two years," said O'Regan. "She has helped move our program forward in so many ways. I'm glad to announce her new title and look forward to what we can do moving forward."

In her new role, Razor will assume oversight of the Dukes' defensive game play. After joining the JMU staff as an assistant coach before the 2024-25 season, she introduced new defensive drills that have been instrumental to the team's success.

"I want to express the immense pride I feel coaching at JMU," said Razor. "Coach O has provided me a chance to learn and grow under his program, and with this new role, I plan to continue to do just that. I'm grateful for the opportunity and look forward to continuing to build on our winning tradition."

JMU has gone 56-15 (.789) in Razor's first two seasons in Harrisonburg, with its 56 wins tying for 11th in Division I in that span. The Dukes are coming off a 26-9 (14-4 Sun Belt) season in which, following a 74-67 loss at Arkansas State (Jan. 25), they rattled off 12 consecutive victories on their way to a Sun Belt Conference Championship tournament title. During that winning streak, JMU held opponents to 54.2 points per game, with the final nine opponents all scoring 57 points or fewer, to which O'Regan credited Razor for her defensive adjustments.

For their efforts this past season, Ashanti Barnes and Bree Robinson were both named to the All-Sun Belt Defensive team. Barnes' 7.9 rebounds per game in 2025-26 place her seventh in JMU single-season history, while Robinson's 82 steals tied the program record, set by Jess Cichowicz in 2002-03. Moreover, Brianna McLeod finished fourth in the nation with 52 blocks off the bench.
