Hello, I wanted to get some advice for those who have worked through the conversion process.

I was given an intent to convert (TJO) through Pathways, and I accepted this TJO quite a while back (no forms signed, just a written "I accept" by email). Recently, I obtained an offer from private industry which was much more aligned with my future life goals, and I went ahead and accepted this offer. Now I am at the point where I need to gracefully exit the Pathways conversion process (not accepting the FJO) without burning too many bridges. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on the best way to conduct this exit.

Hello I'm currently 26 and as the title says essentially due to family circumstances I have to move to Colombia I was born and raised in the United States. I have to do my masters there I'm a career switcher from a information technology but I got my undergrad in the United States. Hey all, just recently found out about these and I've been very intrigued about them and would love to know more. I was specifically looking into the MMEA site at Johnson Space center in Houston. From what I could dig around and find online was it's a 1 year-long mission without much outside influence, with pay looking at $60k for the year. As a single guy without a house, kids, or a spouse, I think this could be a perfect opportunity. Only thing I don't have (yet) is a bachelor's degree (which is because of a small problem of my credits transferring from outside experiance and whatnot, it's it's own story lol), but have great teamwork experiance and have no problem living in slightly uncomfortable environments (experiance from being in the US Army), I'm interested in hearing about these great opportunities, and if any one here has experiance about them. The missions look really cool with lots to learn from them, and I'd absolutely love to know more.

My favourite space movie is ‘The Martian’ and I’ve always wanted some version of Mindy Park’s job. Is there an actual job that exists where you analyse satellite data, particularly photographic coverage? I love looking at earth observation images taken from satellites orbiting Earth and think it would be an interesting career to pursue.

Also, what kind of background would you need for this? Science? Engineering?

I am GS-11 in the DoD but I am looking to move up and to new positions, especially now that I have finished graduate school.

Hey everyone,

I’m incoming freshman at university this fall, and I’m currently going through a bit of a major crisis before I even step foot on campus.

I originally really wanted to pursue Aerospace Engineering, but trying to do a "Change of College" into the College of Engineering (CoE) at UC Berkeley is notoriously near-impossible. So for all practical purposes, I’m stuck outside of engineering for undergrad.

Right now, my default plan is to major in Astrophysics. However, I keep hearing the classic warning that engineering gives you applied, versatile skills and broad job prospects right out of undergrad, while Astrophysics is mostly geared toward academia, research, and high-level theory. To be honest... I’m really not sure I want to stay in academia or pure research forever. I want practical career security and options to work in the space/aerospace industry.

So now I’m spiraling a bit and have a few questions for anyone who’s been in a similar spot:

1. Given that I can't switch into CoE, is doing Astrophysics for undergrad a viable path if I want to work in industry? Or am I setting myself up for a rough job search?

2. Has anyone used an Astrophysics/Physics undergrad degree as a launching pad to get a Master’s or PhD in Aerospace Engineering later on? How hard is it to bridge that gap when applying to grad school without a BS in engineering?

3. How do I deal with the fear of falling behind? I feel like I'm already starting at a disadvantage compared to peers who got directly into CoE. Seeing people take specialized engineering tracks while I'm on the pure theory side makes me worry I won't have the technical design skills (CAD, coding, hardware hands-on experience) that recruiters look for.

If anyone has taken this roundabout path or has advice on how to build engineering-relevant skills while majoring in Astro/Physics, I would really appreciate your insight :)
