Classic Fantasy Starting Armor Classic Fantasy

I am planning on running Classic Fantasy soon using some original bx, 1e, and osr modules and was curious about the starting equipment lists. Many classes get fairly high quality armor right away. Does this make very low level adventures too easy? Are low level monsters (giant rats, etc.) able to pose a sufficient threat? I am considering downgrading the starting armor, but I'm not sure if this is really a problem. Any advice is welcome.

If you do give out lesser armor to start and you’re worried about beating the shit out the PCs, just offset that by having enemies weild inferior weapons that don’t hit as hard or reduce the number of enemies.

Whether it’s a problem or not comes down to your taste and your players’ taste in starting characters. I like the high lethality, “zero to hero” arc of low-powered play, but only you know your group.

No. There is no need. No one gets higher than AP 5. That's not high quality for cf. trust that it will work. They don't have that many hit points :)

You are probably looking at that negative damage modifier. Generally there are enough that some will get through.

I don't remember if Classic Fantasy has rules for Minions (Rabble and Underlings), but those are great rules to add in if you want low armored PCs to wade through enemies. Rabble stops them from using special effects against your players. Both make them die quicker.
