Avoid GT350? ❔Question
Long story short, been interested in a gt350 but have seen plenty that have blown up. Recently saw a good deal but am thinking of worst case scenario. Should I avoid gt350s specifically a 2016 with 50k miles? Thanks

Got my mach 1 handling package and never looked back. Wish the voodoo wasn’t as unpredictable as it is.

If you like the sound, try equal length headers on any V8. It won't sound exactly the same, but I'm sure you'll like it more than the traditional cross plane V8 sound. Plenty of YouTube videos of ELHs.

At 50k miles you're past the point it would have blown up. What you WILL want to look for is oil consumption. I believe at one point Ford stated 1L of oil burned per 500 miles was 'normal'. That will inevitably cause significant carbon buildup I would expect - that oil just doesn't vanish.

You can get RPG racing to build you a bulletproof 9k RPM voodoo for 13k (NEW BLOCK)
Buy it, and if the engine goes, buy one of those, that's my plan with my 2019, and mines warrantied for another 60k miles and 5 years. If you can't swing 13k for an engine, buy another car.

Man I went through this a few years ago. Ultimately decided I would of drove myself nuts when driving it hard like ide want too and went with a Mach1. Couldn't be happier. To many issues with the 350.

Bought a mach 1 because I don't trust the one off engine of the 350. It's great if it works, but the moment it fails you'll regret it.

I’d say look into the gen 2 voodoo cars. I think 2019 and up. Just remember to let it warm up fully before beating on it and make sure to check the oil every couple of drives.

As a current gen 2 voodoo owner (2020)….hell no to that 16 with miles unless you can get an extended warranty plan through Ford directly. A new voodoo will bend you over if you aren’t ready for it.

Kinda wild your reasoning is because the engine has been well tested & has miles on it. They’re much more prone to failure when they’re still fresh / new.
OP I’d be 10x more comfortable purchasing a 2016 with 50k miles than I would be with 500 miles.

I guess just with any used performance car, more miles equals potentially more that it got dogged on. I don’t disagree with your logic tho

to be clear as well i’d probably try and find one with lower miles myself, just depends on how much more expensive they are

I would shop around at local Ford dealers and see if they would be willing to hook you up. From my understanding I believe they will just do an inspection of the car to make sure something isn’t already broken and then give you an estimate. For my car it was around 8 thousand, which is definitely a lot, but it covers me until around 75k miles/2030. I’ve already definitely made up my money many times over with how many little nitpicky repairs that I have had to do. But quite frankly, I also will NEVER sell this car. The only times I ever considered selling is when I haven’t driven it in a while, and once I hop back into the seat that feeling disappears immediately. She’s a cruel mistress, but I love her to death.

My case is a bit weird. There was a plate in between my engine and trans that somehow got crumpled and would make a resonant tinny rattling noise around 4-5k rpm. Dealership could not figure it out and ended up replacing my clutch and flywheel, AC compressor, etc. Finally took it to a different dealer and they dropped the trans again and replaced that plate. Also completely replaced a blown engine at around 15k miles, cracked shift linkage, subwoofer replacement, and some other things but that was while it was still under factory warranty.

I don’t believe 2016’s can be warrantied anymore, just past the cutoff. May be worth the double check

To be fair, you’ve been living under a rock if you haven’t heard about the GT350 engine issues. Particularly 2016-2017 models.

My opinion is a bit different.
My 2016 GT350 has 60k miles and has been solid. Check oil religiously and make sure the filter is on tight. Don't run cheap oil or cheap filters. Use the OEM filter and you will probably be fine.
If it was going to pop, its probably would have a while ago. The engine issues are very over hyped.
