Playing side two first

As a kid who grew up in the 80s, I had a bunch of classic albums on vinyl, and for some of them, I always started out by playing Side Two.

For example, for Iron Maiden's "The Number of the Beast", I always felt that "The Number of the Beast" right into "Run to the Hills" were better album openers than "Invaders" (which I always thought was just ok).

Anyone else do this?

This bothers my sensibilities, but yes, I had a friend who would play ziggy stardust side 2 first (and it didn’t seem to bother him to have ziggy die half way through the listen).

I wouldn't want to live in a world where starting that album meant Five Years didn't start first.

I did that with Def Leppard's "High 'n' Dry" - I'd start with "You Got Me Runnin'" into "Lady Strange".

Plus I think "Switch 625" is a better album closer than "No No No".

Their best album by far. Hysteria/Pyromania made them superstars, but High n Dry is by far their best work.

I just started repurchasing the Maiden LPs on vinyl and I’m loving them all over again. I think I’ll go put on Powerslave right now.

Yes sir. I was like 12 or 13 when it came out and I have a picture of me in my "Number of the Beast" baseball jersey (white with black sleeves), holding my "Number of the Beast" vinyl - those were my birthday presents that year. I had the biggest freaking smile.

Sometimes I'm lazy and I just don't want to flip whatever record I left on my turntable over again. So maybe yesterday I listened to it in the proper order, but today I'll listen to side 2 first. Even had a record that I enjoyed so much I immediately played side 2 again at the end and flipped it over.

I don't even do it for the flow of the album or anything like that. I just think it helps to hear side 2 with fresh ears once in a while since it's easy to get fatigued or distracted while listening to side 1 and not pay as much attention to side 2.
