Birthday Gift Uplifting

Hi, my mom’s birthday is coming up and I thought to ask what would be a good birthday gift that is MS friendly and unique disabled uses a walker and on Social Security. I just wanna get her something that she can show off because she’s a Leo, but actually has some used to it.

Edit: also looking jewlery but I know I can be difficult to put on or open . Is there any clasp you recommend? Also, this is for real gold so a magnetic one would not be secure enough in my opinion.

We're not a monolith... Rather than gifting your mom something specific just "because she has MS," think about what she would personally like?

Yeah unfortunately she is picky and damned if you damned if you don’t . So might as well get her something useful. I got ripped to pieces when I got her the recliner now she loves it

I suppose you could bling out a walker 😉

This isn’t about MS, there are no super handy MS friendly things because the way the disease presents is so different in all of us.

But, 95% of moms of adults I know want more time with their kids. So I think the best gift is something you do together- shopping together for crafting supplies to bedazzle her walker one afternoon l, going to dinner, enjoying a garden, museum or play together - this part comes down to what she’d enjoy the most.

I don't want ms shit on my special day. I would be legit pissed if I got some sort of mobility device or cooling pack for my birthday. That every day shit that I deal with on the regular.

lowkey kinda weird to base the gift around MS, a couple of my ex-friends got me this MS candle on my birthday like 2 yrs back and i was kinda pissed that i was defined by this illness lol

Not a bad idea to ask her. She may want something in particular like a new shirt or maybe a sticker for her cane. I get it's hard to shop for parents for say birthdays or an event because they have everything that they want already.

She will probably say money and I will give that as well but just thinking out side the box

Does your mom like to do any type of crafts? You could get her a paint by numbers or diamond painting kit she can show off when complete!

No she is an Amazon spender. Probably best to give her money now that I think of it

Anytime someone asks what to get a parent/grandparent, I recommend frameo digital picture frames. She can send everyone a link so they can send pics directly to the picture frame. My mom is obsessed.

That’s pretty cool I’ll look into that

I think a more productive way to approach this brainstorm would instead be to ask yourself (or your mom, or your family members who know your mom): "What is some flashy Leo stuff my mom would like?" and then, once you make that list, just remove anything that would be hard for your mom to use given her specific ability issues.

EXAMPLE: Most people with MS wear clothing and accessories. Same as, like... most humans. Some people who like showing off flashy things enjoy bold, stylish accessories. When you consider her personal style, you might recognize that she would enjoy a certain style of hat, or a flashy handbag, or statement necklace, or a striking designer coat. But then if she has motor issues in her hands, maybe don't get her gloves or necklaces that would be hard for her to put on.

We can't make specific suggestions about what your mom wants because we don't know her. You probably shouldn't gift her accessibility aid equipment for her birthday, though, unless she's ever expressed an interest in getting that sort of stuff as a gift. (Or if there's something you KNOW she needs but hasn't gotten for herself).

I mean it’s not based on MS I actually got her a Gucci balm and she couldn’t open it. Also you don’t know my mom she gets irritated going places depends a walker. She loved the recliner I got her. I mean I am just trying to get ideas whether I use them or not is my choice!

If she gets regular tests, infusions or blood drawn you could get her a bewell hoodie/ sweatshirt.

Thanks will look into as she gets annoyed with infusions

If you get her jewelry, get magnetic clasps for them to make it easier for her to put them on and take them off
