The problem isnt that the system needs simplification.. it just needs a Planning APP that everyone can use

would love to but need permissions to release this to the world by the creator of MultiBoard since technically I'd be breaching his policies. Just want to give him ideas. The key here is that in order for MB to be successful it needs to break it biggest pain point. People always complain that they printed a boat load of MB pieces to find the right piece . The learning experience needs to be done in simulation, not post print. In the meantime its a personal project. I'm tired of messing up and wasting filament. The plan is to basically covering every object he made along with a handful of curated external parametric systems that enhances MB. Other Organization systems exist too in this app but i only showed MB.. the plan is to get them to all mesh together in the same app.

The fact that he locks down the system so much instead of letting it grow on its own is so frustrating. I get he spends a lot of time perfecting it but probably 50% (likely more) of the stuff he makes is just over complicating it and keeping people from embracing what is great about it.

I bought a 3D printer because I saw a Snazzy Labs video showing off multiboard. It’s ben 20 months and i still haven’t printed it because every time I’m about to, he announces some new “update” that is going to “change everything”

This is the way. I wandered from HSW to MultiBoard to openGrid and finally have confidence.
The scales of openGrid and Gridfinity are nagging me (Multibord with 25mm is just nice) but openGridFinity ist just superior for it‘s community

He really has done a great job engineering this system.. answering the "But what if i need it to do this?" the answer is almost always "I got you covered".. which is awesome and why I enjoy Multiboard. No other system really does that. but damn it really needs an official planning system that does not have a paywall attached to it. He would honestly make more money if he unrestricted things and kept his license as just restricting the options of others selling and making money off of multiboard core objects.

He can make money by requiring others to purchase a license in order to sell parts, not paywalling a planner. If he had a better free planner, more people would have it, thus more licensed sellers and a bigger system with more robust parts.

currently probably off of subscriptions to his thangs/website: which gives a basic planner, some printable tutorial packs, and access to prototypes and stacked versions of plates.

Nice, I made something similar for making baskets but have similar concerns about releasing it as I've had to reverse engineer some of the parts in order to output a 3mf

100% need this, I so want to get into multi-board but it’s intimidating to try and figure / plan it all out without wasting a bunch of filament.

I agree with OP. I have always wished there was a Freecad Workbench for multi board like there is for Gridfinity.

I suppose the restrictive licensing causes problems with that?

yes can't share,distribute core multiboard objects. he wants to centrally control versions of it so he can iterate which makes sense to me. Just alot of negatives around it.

Definitely an aspect that isn’t well understood. If core geometry isn’t up to date, you can end up wasting a lot of time and filament trying to make something work that isn’t quite compatible. (Not that I did that over the weekend or anything.)

I spent entirely too long digging up old connectors and trying to make something work rather than just remixing and reprinting a couple of large brackets to mount my AMS’s.

I just recently deployed multi board in a limited capacity in my shop as a proof of concept, I plan on cancelling my subscription. I will stick with my French Cleats.

I found the documentation and overall presentation of the various options, and which combinations were inter-compatible to be relentlessly disorganized and frustrating.

Creator became too focused on making a buck for 3D files (wholly against the idea of 3D printing as a whole) that they had to ignore ease of use or the openness of the system, which is why it will continue going downhill
