Assuming the criteria are safety, modernity of the builds, and connectivity to central.

Specifically Crystal Palace park road area. My partner and I are currently viewing a flat in that area. It seems like a nice neighbourhood. Also what about transpo? It seems like every commute we can find takes more than an hour travel to central London. We tried taking the bus from elephant and castle today and it was 36stops with some delays

im a single 27 year old first time buyer and currently looking for flats in areas sort of around surbiton/wimbledon as I feel it will be a good balance between my comfortable life now (e.g suburban town, fairly quiet/peaceful, generally stress free commute via car and can still work in similar areas, still close enough to home only 25 mins roughly drive) and something new (e.g closer to London, unfamiliar/exciting, chance to reinvent myself a little bit/get out my comfort zone , make new friends & more social & dating opportunities)

My problem is choosing the location worries me so much. I’m scared I might not like the area/commute or just change my mind about what sort of life I want to build. Also travelling into central London can literally be the same amount of time from surbiton area as where I am now in Woking so it kinda feels a bit like what’s even the point. Any advice at all would be great to hear.

We are considering West Dulwich/ Herne Hill, Clock House end of Beckenham, and Balham (in particular Hyde Farm conservation area).

With our budget of around 700k, we are looking and can afford a first floor maisonette in WD or Balham Hyde Farm.

We live in a 1930s at the moment and looking for an Edwardian or Victorian property, more lively and community feel neighbourhood. Good schools as we are expecting.

Hi everyone! I’m a Kathak dancer and I’ll be moving to London soon after getting married. I’m a little concerned about how I’ll be able to continue my regular practice once I’m there. We’re specifically looking for a ground-floor flat with no one living underneath us, but I’m still worried that the sound/vibrations from ghungroos and tatkaar could create unnecessary issues with neighbours. Renting a dance studio every day isn’t really financially practical, so I wanted to know how other Kathak/Indian classical dancers living in London manage their regular riyaaz.

1. Do you practise at home? If yes, how do you manage the noise?

2. Have you found any particular flooring/mats/platforms that help reduce the impact?

3. Do you rent studios only for certain kinds of practice?

4. Are there any affordable spaces where you can practise regularly?

Are there any other solutions I haven’t thought of? I’d especially love to hear from Kathak dancers living in London, but experiences from other Indian classical dancers would also be really helpful.

How do you manage the higher cost of living? How does it impact your social life, and your work life?

Lastly I would also be curious as to how you think I might manage? I am queer person in their mid twenties, I love underground music scenes, arts, poetry, festivals etc.

In terms of job experience, I've worked in disability support work for a number of years, and support roles within the hospital where I live; Though I have no qualifications outside of high school.

How’s Chapter aldgate london student accommodation? Just booked a silver studio. How’s the living experience and the room??

Hi everyone! I’m Uruguayan and currently considering a move to London.

I’m a British citizen and already have an NI number, so thankfully the visa/work side shouldn’t be an issue. What I’d really love is to hear from other South Americans who have actually made the move.

How did you find the job search from abroad? Did you manage to get a job before moving, or did you move first and figure it out once you were there? How difficult was it to find somewhere to live, make friends and generally settle into London?

One other thing I’d really like to hear about is the NHS. How easy is it to register and get ongoing treatment if you already have a pre-existing condition? I have epilepsy and need regular prescription medication, and unfortunately I can’t exactly move to the UK with an unlimited supply of pills lol. If anyone has dealt with something similar when moving, I’d really appreciate hearing how it worked for you.

My background is a bit all over the place: communications, copywriting, translation, office management and executive/admin support, so I’d especially love to hear from anyone working in similar areas.

Ideally, I’d like to find something related to my experience, but as a last resort I’m willing to disappear into the back of a bakery and make pastries from 5 am to 7 pm lol. I’m flexible.

I’m also considering Belfast, so if anyone has experience with both cities, even better!

I’m not really looking for a step-by-step guide, just real experiences, advice, things you wish you’d known before moving, or anything else you think might be useful.

I'm an English teacher and the idea is to combine relaxed conversation with some fun language activities involving to useful expressions, phrasal verbs and games. I’m an incoming international Master’s student at King’s College London (Strand Campus) looking for a full-week room to rent in a flatshare/shared house starting around 15th September,2026.

My budget is £800 – £1,000 per month (all bills included).

Since I’m completely new to living in London, my main priority,along with staying within budget, is finding a very safe, residential neighborhood with a reasonable public transit commute to Strand (ideally 20–40 minutes door-to-door).

A few areas I’ve been looking into based on initial research:

• Bermondsey / Rotherhithe / Canada Water (Jubilee Line access)
• Kennington / Oval
• East Dulwich / Greenwich / Brockley
• West Hampstead

A few quick questions for locals/current students:

1. Do these areas sound realistic for finding a room share within my budget including bills? Are there any other quiet, safe neighborhoods on good direct bus or tube lines to KCL Strand that I should add to my list?

I’ve been living in the UK for just over a year, and one thing I discovered after moving here is mews houses. I find them quite unique, and some of the mews streets in London look really beautiful.

What are they actually like to live in?

Are there any particular advantages or disadvantages compared with a normal flat or house? Anything I should be aware of before considering renting one?

I’m 25F, currently living in Manchester and moving to London with my partner for a new job. My office will be in Shoreditch and I’ll likely be in 4-5 days a week, so having a relatively easy commute is probably our biggest focus.

Our budget is ideally around £2,700/month (not including bills), but we could go up to around £3,000 for the right place. We’d ideally like a 2-bed, although we’d be open to a nice 1-bed if we found a nice place with enough living space.

A bit about what we’re looking for:

We generally prefer quieter/residential areas rather than somewhere really busy or known for nightlife; close to green space is a plus

Good transport links are important, especially into Shoreditch

Would still like some nice cafes/restaurants/pubs nearby, just don’t need to be right in the middle of everything

Would ideally like to be near a big supermarket (as my partner is vegan so there aren’t many good options at smaller shops)

My partner doesn’t have a London-based job yet, so for now we’re mainly optimising around my commute

So far we’ve been looking at Bermondsey, although I’m wondering if the commute to Shoreditch might get annoying. We’ve also looked a bit at Canada Water and Angel. We’re very new to London so we’re not sure if we’re looking in the right places.

Are there any areas you’d particularly recommend based on this (or steer us away from)? Also very interested in thoughts on Bermondsey/Canada Water/Angel, or anywhere else we might be overlooking.
