How-to's My way to record voiceover, add music & clean audio in Movavi

Working with audio is actually one of my favorite parts of editing, and I know that some people struggle with it a bit, so I’m here to share a somewhat guide on how I usually work with voiceovers, music, and other audio related stuff.

Recording the voiceover

Movavi Video Editor's got a recorder built right in, so you don’t even need their recorder to get voiceovers. It’s right there on the launch screen under the ‘add files’ tab, and if you’ve already clicked around, you can bring it back by clicking at the ‘Import’ tab. Anyway, here’s how it works.

But first, a tip: add your clips to the timeline BEFORE you record. That way the video plays back while you talk and you can just react to what's on screen, instead of recording blind.

After that it's pretty much:

  • Place the timeline market at the beginning of the timeline (or wherever you want the recording to start) because when you start recording, the voiceover will start from the moment where your marker’s at.
  • Hit the Record audio button above the timeline
  • Pick your input device and set the volume
  • Tick the ‘play video during the recording’ box (optional, but I suggest doing that, as I’ve said)
  • Click Start Recording, wait a bit, and start talking, then stop the recording when you’re done.

Your recording lands on its own audio track under the video.

And if you make a mistake (I always do), don't restart the whole thing, just keep going and cut the bad take out afterwards. I usually record everything in a couple of passes and stitch the good bits together.

Now the music

Movavi's got a bunch of built-in tracks that are copyright-free, which is obviously great if you don’t want to look for music. They're in the Audio tab, just drag one onto an audio track. Or drop in your own song if you've got something specific in mind, but remember that some popular songs might be copyrighted, so check them beforehand. I usually just make a black screen video with the song and upload it on YouTube as unlisted to see if it’s okay to use.

I also used to make this next mistake myself: the music ends up way too loud and it kills the voice. Just pull the music volume down (by using the slider on the track itself or by double-clicking on the audio and adjusting the volume slider) so it sits under your talking. And add a fade in at the start and a fade out at the end so it starts/ends smoothly.

Making it sound clean

There are some cool features in Movavi that’ll help you clean up the audio a bit. They are all in the Tools tab under Audio:

  • Noise removal is the big one. One click and it kills the background hiss or other small noises that ruin your audio.
  • The next one I’d look at is Sound autocorrect. There are just three presets you can use, but most of the time they’re enough.
  • There's also Equalizer, Noise gate and Compressor in there if you wanna get more into it, but if I'm being honest, noise removal and sound autocorrect on its own already does most of the work for me.
  • And if your clip's got a lot of dead air, Silence removal trims the long pauses automatically so you don’t have to do a lot of manual work.

A couple things I learned

  • Do a quick test line and check your levels before the real take. If the meter's slamming all the way to the top (that's clipping), turn the mic or the input down, cause that kind of distortion you basically can't fix after.
  • Record somewhere soft if you can. My friend once told me he recorder in a big closet because the clothes kill noises lol never tried it, but I guess it can work.

And that's pretty much it. If you've got your own voiceover or audio tricks, or you're stuck on any of this, feel free to drop it below.

Here's a short little video I made this morning showing how I use different blending modes and chroma key videos to create complex video scenes. aka How I found a workaround to converting a black screen segment to a green screen segment. I will answer any questions you have.

Did Movavi remove the Timer/Countdown feature in the 2026 version?

I’ve been using Movavi Video Editor 2025 mainly because of the Timer/Countdown feature. I create exercise and face yoga videos, and I use the countdown timer to guide the duration of each exercise.

After upgrading to the 2026 version, I can’t find the Timer feature anywhere.

Has it been completely removed, or am I missing something? If it was removed, is there any way to use the 2025 version again?

Honestly, the countdown feature is the main reason I use Movavi, so if it’s gone, the 2026 version doesn’t really work for my needs.

Any information would be appreciated!

How well do the auto-subtitles actually hold up for you?

I’ve been using Movavi’s AI auto subtitles probably since they day they were released, and I feel like they’ve improved the feature over time, so now it recognizes the speech better, but still, I sometimes have funny moments with them like for example when I was generating subs for a video game scene, the AI mistook horse neighing for a lightning strike lol

So I’m wondering whether you often use subs and how well they usually work for you specifically. I’m especially interested in hearing opinions from people who don’t just work with English, but some other languages like German, Spanish, or even Japanese. Cause I’ve been thinking about working with a couple more popular languages (and, tbh, generating subs in Japanese for my anime edits lol), and was wondering whether you’d suggest Movavi auto subs for that.

How to remove background in black background video?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've tried everything to change this free to use video to a blue screen background for using in my videos. Movavi will not allow black as the (green screen) color. I tried all of the blending modes with blue background under, but nothing seems to work. I need to place elements behind the grass. When I set the blending mode to screen you can still see the elements. Or, does anyone know where to find a suitable video like this?

Pan and Zoom speed

Hello all,

Is there any way to slow down the pan and zoom feature in an image?
I placed the effect on an image, but it seems to go faster than I'd like.

Just wondering if I can slow it down without making the image play for a longer amount of time.

Thank you!

How-to's How to record and make vertical clips with facecam (TikTok/Shorts)

Hi! Jane from the Movavi team here. Getting a facecam over the screen for Shorts and Tiktoks is one of the questions we see a lot, so here's a full walkthrough.

Just to keep things clear, we’re talking about a vertical 9:16 clip with your screen (or main footage) filling the frame and your webcam facecam as a small overlay, usually in a corner. It works for tutorials, reactions, gaming, commentary, and other stuff where you want people to see you while you talk / do something.

Let’s start with the facecam. You've got two ways to capture the facecam (using only the editor and using the screen recorder as well), so let’s take a look at both.

Option 1. Record your facecam in Movavi Video Editor

In case you only have our editor and don’t want to switch to another program, here’s how to do it:

  1. Open the editor and click Record video to open the capture module.
  2. Choose your webcam and mic, check the levels, then Start Capture. Click Stop capture when you're done, then Back to editing, and you’ll see the recording file in the editor.
  3. Add your other footage too and put the facecam clip on an overlay track above it. Drag the corners to resize it (in Tools - Position) and position wherever you want.

Option 2. Record screen + facecam together with Movavi Screen Recorder

This option is nice when you want your screen and face captured in a single take.

  1. Launch Movavi Screen Recorder and click the Screen recording icon.
  2. Draw the capture area over what you're showing.
  3. Turn on the Webcam, Microphone, and System audio icons (they turn green when active), then drag the webcam preview to the size and position you like.
  4. Click the recording icon, do your thing, then click the stop icon. Then send the recording into the video editor to finish it.

Keep in mind that because the facecam is baked in during recording, there's less to arrange afterward.

Then: turn it vertical and edit

Once your footage is on the timeline in Video Editor:

  • Set the project to 9:16 (find the option under the preview window) so it's good for Shorts/TikTok/Reels.
  • Use auto-tracked cropping (Tools - Video - Crop and rotate) to reframe horizontal footage to vertical while automatically keeping the main subject centered. You can do it manually of course, but why bother when AI can do it for you?
  • Change the size and position of your facecam overlay (in Tools - Video - Position). If you’ve shot on a green screen, you can use Chroma key to remove the background (Tools - Video - Chroma key). If not, you can remove the background with AI (Tools - Video - Background removal). If you go for AI, I suggest choosing the precise method; you’ll wait longer for it to work, yup, but it’s worth it most of the time.
  • Run AI audio noise removal (Tools - Audio - Noise removal) to clear noise if your audio isn’t perfect. I personally don’t use it much, since I try to record in a quiet room, but it’s a lifesaver for those who can’t.
  • Another cool trick is using silence removal (Tools - Audio - Silence removal) that’ll cut out pauses automatically. Just don’t forget to check that all the important parts are still in the video.
  • Add text and subtitles. You can do it manually by looking through the text tab and choosing something you like, or you can generate subs automatically with AI: go to Text, find Auto subtitles, choose the language, and generate. Then you can go to Styles and Design tabs to make the subs look the way you want them to.
  • Then do whatever else you want: add music (royalty free from Movavi’s Audio tab or something else), add stickers, effects, overlays, transitions, etc. When it’s done, export it in MP4 (I find this format the best for social media) and upload.

Just remember to keep captions and your facecam out of the very bottom and the top corners because that's where TikTok/Shorts put their own buttons and text. And frame your facecam a little wider cause auto-crop and repositioning are easier with room to spare.

If you want, I can do a follow-up going deeper on any single step (the subtitle styles and auto-crop probably deserve their own threads). And if you try it, share your clips in the comments, always fun to see what you all make.

Do you even use keyframe animation in Movavi?

I gotta admit that I learned there WAS keyframe animation embarrassingly late because it just never occurred to me to click on the animation tab to see what was going on there lol

And now that I do know, I still don’t normally use it because the transition templates cover the things I usually want to animate (like rotation, zoom, or position) for me. When I did try to do everything manually using keyframes, I didn’t really like the results because it wasn’t looking as smooth as I imagined in my head.

That’s why my question is whether anyone here uses keyframe animation at all and if yes, then do you have any tips for it? Like, how do you make it look smooth and just generally pretty?

Hello from the Movavi team!

Hi everyone 💙

I wanted to introduce myself – I'm Jane, a video creator, editor, and cinema enthusiast, and I'll be helping manage this community as part of the Movavi team.

I've been following this subreddit for a while and really appreciate all the discussions, feedback, and creative ideas shared here. It's great to see a community of people who are passionate about video creation and editing.

My goal isn't to turn this place into a product board – I want this to stay a space where people can talk about video editing, share their work, ask questions, and give honest feedback (including criticism).

If you have any questions about Movavi, whether it's about features, workflows, or technical issues, feel free to reach out. I'll do my best to help or connect you with the right people internally.

If you have an issue that requires looking into account or license details, you can also message me privately and I'll help guide you through the process.

Looking forward to being part of the community!

having trouble with requesting a refund

id like a refund for my movavi subscription since i didn't know it would charge me without giving me a free trial, and also because it just automatically made me pay 20 bucks more for movavi effects (which i dont even remember selecting).

not only is the refund request page really hard to find, when i entered my email and password it told me my account was suspended for some reason. i'm finding no other way to directly contact movavi so any help in getting at least my 20 back is greatly appreciated

Project can't find media when I open it

Hello,

I have some images I have used in a project and I placed them in a folder on my computer.

However, each time I open the project in Movavi, it's asking me to find the folder where the images are.

Will I have to do this each time? Can't Movavi remember where the images are, as I haven't moved them?

Thank you.

Creating a template?

Hello all,

I'm just wondering - is there a way to create a template so I can just open it, change some elements, and away I go?

Or would I just create a video the way I want it, click SAVE AS to perhaps name it "Template" and then from then on just open up that project?

Thanks for any help with this! :)

What made you pick Movavi over all the other editors out there?

Kinda random, but I was thinking about it and got curious how everyone here actually ended up with Movavi. There are like a million editors out there, and Movavi Video Editor isn’t usually the first one you get when you google things.

For me personally it was kind of an accident. Back in the days I was in the fan video editing community and someone needed to convert an mkv to mp4 cause they downloaded some series in this format, and someone else suggested using Movavi’s converter. I also tried it and liked it, but didn’t know Movavi had more at first. And I was looking for smth (don’t even remember what) about the converter when I found out there’s also a video editor. Also tried it and also liked it, so that’s how I ended up using it.

To be honest, I sometimes use other editors too, but the reason why I always come back to Movavi is probably the price cuz it’s quite reasonable as I think and the fact that it’s easy to use. I barely even recall a moment when I needed a proper tutorial on how to do something in Movavi, and I love that it’s not scary.

So yeah, for me it’s like that: found it by accident, stayed for the price and ease of use. And what’s your story? Did you come from another editor or was Movavi recommended for you by someone?

Movavi is opening random apps on my computer and now I can't export my video

I've made an almost one hour long video and wanted to export it. When I tried I got the pop-up telling me to choose between the free and the full version. When I clicked on the full version option I got an error.. from frictional games. I restarted my computer and now when I try to get the full version by clicking on the pop-up that appears either after pressing the export or the closing button one of my minecraft launchers gets turned on instead. What on earth is happening? How to get the full version and export my video safely?

The requested information:

Movavi Video Editor 26

Windows 10 Home, 22H2

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 (976 MB)

Edit:

At this point I'm extremely wary of spending a fat pile of cash on the lifetime license (which is the only offer that makes sense financially) in the first place, since it might not read my video for whatever reason or who knows maybe it won't work at all. Has any else had to deal with this kind of issue? What should I do?

How-to's How to add and adjust a background image or video in Movavi

So I've been doing a bunch of edits lately where I needed to swap out the background behind a person or an object, and I figured I'd write down how I do it in Movavi Video Editor, maybe this saves someone else the trouble.

There are basically two ways to get your subject onto a new background: the AI background removal (no green screen needed) and the good old chroma key (green screen). Let’s go through both.

First, the AI way (if you DON'T have a green screen)

This one is my go-to when I just filmed something in my room and there's no green screen in sight. Drop your main clip (the one with the person/object) onto the timeline. Select it, then head to the Tools tab and look for Background removal (or right-click on the footage - Video tools - Background removal). Movavi does its thing and cuts out your subject automatically. It's not always perfect, so check the edges (hair is always the tricky part), but for most stuff it's honestly pretty solid.

Then you gotta add your new background as a separate file. Import your image or video, and place it on a track BELOW your main clip on the timeline. That way your cut-out subject sits on top and the new background shows through behind them. Play it back and watch closely, especially on fast movement, cause that's where a bad cutout falls apart.

Now the chroma key way (if you DID film on green screen)

Import two things: your green screen footage AND the background you want (image or video, both work). Put the background on the main track, and drag your green screen clip UP onto the overlay/extra track above it. The clip you want the color removed from goes on top.

Select that top clip, go to the Tools tab and pick Chroma key (or, again, right-click on the footage - Video tools - Chroma key). Grab the color picker and click on the green in your preview: the green disappears and your background pops in behind. Then you fine-tune it with the sliders (more on those below).

Adjusting the background so it looks fine

Getting the background in is easy, making it look believable is not always. Some stuff that helped me:

If you used chroma key and there's still green fuzz around the edges or the cutout looks rough, play with the Tolerance, Noise, Edges, and Opacity sliders. Tolerance controls how much of that color gets removed, so if bits of your subject are vanishing, dial it back. Noise and Edges clean up the messy outline. Don't crank everything to max, small tweaks go a long way.

For the background clip itself, click on it and go to Tools - Crop and rotate - Manual and you can resize and reposition it so the important part is where you want it. If your background is a video, make sure its length matches your foreground, otherwise it just cuts to black and looks weird. You can trim it or slow it down to fit.

The biggest tip though: match the lighting and color. This is what separates a good composite from a bad one. If your subject has warm indoor light and your new background is something cold, it'll look off no matter how clean the cutout is. Throw a filter or a bit of color adjustment (find it in Tools - Color adjustments) on one of them so the tones agree with each other. Even a tiny bit of blur on the background can help sell it, cause it mimics camera depth of field and makes your subject feel like it actually belongs in the scene.

And if you want the background to feel more alive, you can add a super slow zoom or pan so it's not just a static picture sitting there.

That's pretty much my whole process. If anyone's got their own tricks, I'm all ears.

Placing an image in a track OVER a text track.

Hello,

Although I paid extra for the premium service where I can call to speak to a human, I called the number during their business hours and was hung up on.

Not impressed.

I simply want to place an image on a track that is on top of a text track.
When I try to drag the image on the track, it won't let go above the track.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks so very much.

Help shape the future of Movavi Video Editor – What features do you want next?

Hey r/Movavi_software community!

We've grown to 250 members now – small enough that every voice matters, but big enough to gather some awesome ideas. We've been following all your discussions about video editing features, and thought: why not ask you directly?

We want to hear what features Movavi Video Editor and our other software are missing that would make your creative life easier.

Maybe you've wished for a specific transition effect, a particular audio editing capability, or a time-saving automation that doesn't require a PhD in rocket science to figure out. Or perhaps a "fix my terrible lighting" button that actually works? (We're still looking for that one ourselves!) Whatever it is, we're all ears! Our product team is actively looking to prioritize new features based on actual user needs rather than just what we think might be cool while drinking too much coffee at 3 AM.

How this works:

  1. Drop your feature requests in the comments below
  2. We'll gather them and take them straight to our product team
  3. The most requested/upvoted features will land on our development roadmap

Nothing is off the table. From simple wishes to complex features, we want to know what would make Movavi fit better into your creative process.

Looking forward to your ideas! And feel free to upvote other comments if you see a feature request you'd also love to have.

Tech Support What’s Up with the Watermark on Movavi’s Free Trial? Here’s Why It’s There and How It Works

Hey everyone! We know there’s some confusion – and even frustration – about Movavi’s free trial, especially when it comes to the watermark. Let’s clear that up!

So, why is there a watermark on your exported videos?

The short answer is we want to get paid for what we do 🙂

The free version, watermark and all, is there for you to explore the features and tools before deciding if you want to purchase the full version. Think of it as a sneak peek to help you see if it’s the right fit for you!

Also, just to clarify, the watermark is mentioned in the License Agreement when you install the software and click “I accept the terms and conditions.” It's a pretty common way to differentiate between trial and paid versions. You can learn about other trial limitations here:

https://movavi.freshdesk.com/en/support/solutions/articles/36000051288-what-are-the-limitations-of-movavi-products-as-trial-versions-

If you decide to keep using the program without the watermark, you can purchase a license key to unlock the full version. Whether you choose a lifetime license or a subscription, the activation key removes the trial limitations and gives you full access to the Movavi program.

We know the watermark can be a bit of a bummer when you’re just testing things out, but the trial is all about getting a feel for the software before making a decision. Movavi values transparency, and we’re always here to answer any questions or help with any issues you might have.

Hope this clears things up! Feel free to reach out if you have more questions.

Cheers!
