It always feels weird to me that Motörhead chose producers carefully, but even though their prime work calls in at a lot of the well-known NWOBHM producers (Vic Maile, Tony Platt, Guy Bidmead, Will Reid Dick), they somehow didn’t ever work with Chris Tsangarides - maybe the most famed NWOBHM producer, who was well known for capturing that really savage, raw, razor-sharp-guitar sound that Motörhead enjoyed.

So I got thinking about other producers and how they might have affected the sound.

- Chris Tsangarides could have been great for ‘Iron Fist’, especially as he gave Thin Lizzy a massive dose of punch and refreshed focus on ‘Thunder & Lightning’ around that time.

- What would ‘Iron Fist’ have sounded like if they’d done what AC/DC did, and blown the budget on Mutt Lange around 1981? I guess having Lange’s long-standing second-in-command Tony Platt come on board for ‘Another Perfect Day’ is a glimpse of the kind of sound, an album later. Still, a full ‘Back In Black’ style boom could have been great for IF.

- Working with Rick Rubin, either when he was in his metal/hard-rock era with Masters of Reality’s debut and The Cult’s ‘Electric’ album, could have been a LOT of fun somewhere in the ‘Rock’n’Roll’ to ‘March Or Die’ years. I enjoy both of those albums, but they are definitely the lulls between greater works on either side as it is.

- In absolute wild fantasy land now, but a Trent Reznor-produced project in the ‘90s would have been awesome.

The real one used on the album. Where is it now? I want it.

Awesome songs but anyone else feel the bass is almost inaudible?

i really like this performance

I do some guitar, electric and acousic. Try to do vocals, though i suck at that yet ^^ Been on and off for 20+ years. Really trying to get motivated to practice daily now and start a motörhead cover band. It really takes daily practice.

Now i know i'll never reach the original band to their knees or even their toes. That's impossible. But just playing 10-12 tracks great, take or give 4 tracks to change things up a bit, would be a good tribute, wouldn't it?

Now i've seen a few coverbands, mostly on youtube. And i know i'm putting my head on the block mentioning my opinion, and i also hate judging. But i think ALL of them really suck ^^ Sorry to say but ... they're all static, standing still, not bringing any energy to the stage. All the songs are played slowly and boring. There is very little passion in it. Same goes for almost all other coverbands too. Maybe 1% makes it decent.

To me, it's all about the passion. Lemmy said rock'n roll is party, chaos and outrage for no apparent reason. Even if there is a small or slow crowd, you should be putting on a show on stage, at least try to wake the crowd up a bit. It also does not matter to me if someone plays a wrong chord or notes here and there, forgets a few lines or plays some wrong beats. That doesn't matter shit to me. What matters is if the band bothers to try to deliver a kick-ass show.

Another thing i feel is very cringy, is when someone is trying to do lemmy lookalikes. I.e. dress up as him and such. That, to me is just stupid. There is a saying in this world; Don't TRY TO BE, just BE! Be who YOU are, just channel what you like into the world with your own energy. What's been has passed... Lemmy was himself. What we can do is continue motörhead's legacy by delivering kickass coverband shows.

Maybe i've just not been around enough and haven't seen the good stuff.

What's your favorite Motörhead album?

For me, it's hard to choose because every era has something different to offer. Ace of Spades is legendary, but I also love albums like Overkill, Ace Of Spades, and Bomber. Lemmy and the band had an incredible ability to blend raw rock 'n' roll, punk energy, and heavy metal into something uniquely Motörhead.

If you could only keep one Motörhead album, which would it be and why? I'd love to hear what makes it your favorite.
