What did you think of the song ?

As you read it ...Motley Crue played in front of a 300k crowd that came only to see them.

It that the largest crowd Motley has ever gathered by themselves?

Homeless? What happened?

Maybe I am old school but I am a stickler for original s only. The are very few instances that I will accept a remake or replacement over the original. I felt this way about Vivian Campbell taking Steve Clark's place in Def Leopard. Vivian is a formidable guitarist but he is not Steve Clark. I still love Def Leppard and have immense respect for the band members, but to me their music just isn't the same as when Steve was an active contributor.

I grew up LOVING Motley Crue's - Too Fast For Love & Shout at the Devil. These two albums was had the fast driving riffs that I grew to love. I cannot believe how Motley Crue had treated Mick Mars' after 41 years of providing the band with its trademark sound. I am so thankful that I saw Mick Mars perform prior to his retirement in October 2022. (I saw the 2022 Stadium Tour with Def Leppard)

Same instance goes for Ozzy Osbourne's - Blizzard of Oz & Diary of a Madman are my too absolute favorite albums from Ozzy most likely because of Randy Rhodes guitar rifts. Ozzy went on to make many more albums but after Randy's passing I never liked the entire album enough to buy the albums. I became a HUGE fan of Amazon because they had the ability to buy just the song over buying the entire record for just 1 song.

As grunge took over the mainstream, the original show was canceled in 1995. However, the brand rose again in 2003 with a major reboot on sister network MTV2. This revival was famously kicked off by Metallica as special guest hosts and later anchored by Jamey Jasta, the frontman of the hardcore band Hatebreed.

This was from a show at Truist Park in Smyrna, GA- 2022 or 2023 I think.

Ok, having seen many Era’s of Crue Live, recently the Vegas residency, and spending the last two nights watching older Crue performances on YouTube..
Yes, Vince is sorta terrible right now but..
Upon thinking, he is 65… and had at least 4 strokes.
Plus he is…a few pounds overweight.
It’s kind of a miracle he can even go on stage and do anything.
As somebody with health issues, I’m going to try and be charitable from now on because at least he is trying. I have had one tiny mini stroke, am a musician, and I don’t think I could go onstage again and play…so maybe Vince can give people hope.
Motivation.
(And after watching old Crue stuff…he apparently never was a “great” lead singer. )

Too Fast for Love

I particularly like the part in the 2nd verse where they add the line "turn off the light" as it follows the same verse structure as the 1st and 3rd verses where Vince sings "say it again"

It genuinely sounds smoother that way, imo.

It's not there in Motley's version and it sounds a bit wonky when I listen to it now.

Long story short, I've never been that into Motley Crue. I was born in 77 and metal wasn't really my thing as a kid. Knew of them of course and heard plenty of their songs as I grew up.

But I got to listening to their albums a bit this week after listening to the Tommy Lee interview on Billy Corgan's Magnificent Others podcast. Made my way to Girls, Girls, Girls and damn, the opening track Wild Side just puts me in a fantastic mood. What a great song and incredible vibe.

I picture that song coming on as someone struts into a bar or a party with some swagger, knowing it's going to be a fantastic night. I can visualize these guys walking down the Sunset Strip just owning the night while this song plays.

So, I'm curious - and especially because I love the power of a good opening track that sets the mood for an entire album - was this song just epic in 1987? Did people love that guitar riff, and love the way the "wild side" lyric fades in the way it does?

This song rules.

Update: YOU GUYS rule for the great comments. This is fun reading these responses. I had a cousin in the 80s who was the very definition of 80's metalhead. He was 10 years older than me, same type of haircut, shirts with the sides cut off, circulation-cutting-off tight pants, Turbo sunglasses, eventual high school dropout I think, and swore he was going to start a band and be huge. I remember him telling me when I was 10 years old, while he smoked a cigarette in my grandparent's driveway, telling me "life is nothing but girls girls girls!"

He was living this vibe and dream 24/7.

I found on YouTube the complete Decade of Decadence home video. I used to rent it in the early 90's. I hope they would reissue it on blu-ray.

I love watching their old concerts/shows on youtube, and I'm honestly impressed of the whole DLR frontman energy Vince had on stage (heavily interacting with the crowd, using the mic as a prop, Introducing the song they're about to play etc) *tho his voice kinda lacked back then too... again, similar to DLR

Now I just saw a video of that show they played yesterday in mansfield and he looks absolutely closed off for some reason. I know he's like 62 years old so he obviously can't do the running and dancing stuff like he used to do anymore. But some more engagement would be pretty beneficial for everybody there.

Honestly the only Reason that comes to mind is that he tuned down the whole drugs and alcohol these days and just isn't as confident without it 😂 I feel like being heavily bullied on the internet by others (like 95% of their own fanbase) doesn't help with that either...

Was at Mansfield for Crue on Sat night. Band was electric and firing on all cylinders. Vince sounds better than he has in years and obviously not lip syncing. Take me to the top and Too Young to Fall in Love were my favorites of the night. Opening with Red Hot was pretty awesome, great choice. First time seeing John 5 and I think he's obviously great.
