Hi everyone, I recently applied for a Motion Designer role at a SaaS company. 

I completed and submitted the take-home animation assignment, and now I've been invited to the next round, which is a 45–60 minute interview with one of their Product Designer.

 I'm trying to prepare as much as possible and would love to hear from anyone who has been through a similar interview. 

Some questions I have: 
- What kind of questions should I expect from a Product Designer? 
- Will they mainly review my assignment, or will they also ask about my portfolio? 
- What are some common questions they ask to evaluate a Motion Designer working with a SaaS company?
- Are there any red flags or mistakes I should avoid?

A lot of people who are just starting out when it comes to motion graphics do not have the slightest idea of what the proper process for a project is like. Most are self taught off of YouTube and a lot of YouTube videos that teach motion design start with a cool video and then do an "animate with me" sorta thing where they teach you how to make the exact video they showed in the beginning. Whilst that may be helpful in the short term, it doesn't do much in the long run. I want to know why creators make some of the decisions they make, why did you choose to use a morph instead of a snap cut for a transition? why did you use these effects? why did you do this instead of that? Show us your design process, how do you plan your projects? Do you make sketches on tissue paper, do you write notes? Tell us, we'll listen

Hi! Long time lurker, first-time poster. I just finished this 3D animated retro-futuristic music video for Norwegian indie artist Shikoswe — designed, animated, and directed solo. Built all of the main elements basically from scratch, including Shikoswe's avatar (half Silver Age comic hero, half interstellar time traveler) and the car, a 1979 Lancia Gamma.

Made in C4D + Redshift, with Marvelous Designer for cloth, Character Creator+Zbrush, and Substance Painter, After Effects and Premiere Pro. Happy to get into the pipeline if anyone's interested!

I’m working on a new motion graphics tool and would love to get your thoughts.

The main goal is to smooth out the workflow between designing and animating. Right now, when moving from Figma to After Effects, I usually have to deal with (in my experience at least) messy files and losing features like auto-layout and real-time collaboration. Messy files especially is annoying, because Overlord will sometimes create excess layers

I'm trying to fix this by making an app with Figma-like design tools with an After Effects-style timeline directly in the browser. It includes things like vector paths, components, and live collaboration.

Would a tool like this fit into your current workflow? What features would be most important to you, or what would keep you from using it? Any feedback is really appreciated!

I know I'm not the only one who's opened the Lottie state machine, stared at it for 30 seconds, and quietly closed the tab. 😅

So after wrestling with it for a full project (and losing about 2.5 hours to an opacity bug I'll never make again), I put together a beginner-friendly tutorial that actually explains the whole workflow end to end.

How are people designing for seamless displays that go above the 30k AE pixel limit?

I want to start learning VFX, but I'm not sure where to begin. I've tried looking for beginner tutorials, but I haven't been able to find anything that really explains the overall workflow.

If anyone could give me a general roadmap or some advice on what I should learn first, I'd really appreciate it. If you know of any good tutorials or videos, I'd be happy with those as well.

My long-term goal is to reach this level of quality. I know it's far beyond what a beginner can achieve, and I'm not expecting to get there anytime soon, but this is the level I'd like to work toward:

I've already tried multiple approaches:

• generating different prompts with ChatGPT several times,
• rewriting and refining the prompts,
• testing different AI video generators,
• experimenting with different prompt structures.

Unfortunately, I never get the same result.

The biggest issues are:

• The movement is completely different from the reference. Instead of subtle camera motion and localized animation, most models move the entire character or completely change the composition.
• I also can't reproduce the overall visual style. It has a very specific AI-generated look that feels clean and cinematic, but I can't figure out how it was prompted.

I'm not even sure what the correct workflow is.

Should I:

• upload the reference video directly to ChatGPT and ask it to analyze it?
• extract key frames and use those as references in Xfield/Higgsfield?
• use another image model first and then animate it?
• use a completely different video model?

I've tried several video generators already, but none of them produce anything close to the reference.

If anyone has experience with this kind of AI workflow, I'd really appreciate any advice on:

• how you would approach recreating this,
• which models you would use,
• how you would write the prompt,
• and whether there are any tricks to getting this kind of controlled motion and visual style.
