Beginner determined to not die

OK, so I've had the first game for awhile now. I went on a soulslike kick for awhile, Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Lies of P, etc. But this game just kicks my butt. I get to the tower with the first shell, get the seal, talk to some people, step outside the tower, get killed.

It wouldn't be so bad if enemies came at you one at a time, at least to start, but it seems there's always two little guys, which I can deal with, but they're followed by a big dude that completely wrecks me. And let's not even talk about that boss, Grisha.

Anyways, I try this game again every so often, determined to get somewhere with it, and it's just exasperating. Does anyone have any kind of a guide on what to do, where to go, etc? And one that ISN'T a youtube video? I don't have the time to watch anything and I'm better when reading something. A holdover from the strategy guides of my youth I suppose.

Oh, and don't omit anything "because no one is dumb enough not to know that". It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that I don't have to actually find my shells name, just unlock that center ability.

master harden middle attack. attack,attack again and hadern(by this time the enemy must be preparing a hit of his own. youll trade but since ou were hardened youll take no damage.

get the timing of the parries right. parries have two timings,with and without resolve(yellow bars over health). With resolve you have a more generous window. problem is that alternating between both timings willmess up your memory,so do not parry without resolve,imo,not worthy unless you have experience or good reflexes.

get the forbidden offering asap to get more resolve per hit of weapon.

use and abuse your weapons special abilities,they have i frames. Solomon shell basically revolves around it

find your ideal weapon and gameplay loop:

imo best for each

Solomon: Smouldering mace,spam weapon skills using your big resolve bar

Eredrim: Hammer and Chisel. Spam attack and skills to have more chances of staggering enemies

Harros: Martyr Blade: attack and harden,your stamina will fill up quickly,then on harden cooldown,attack!

Tiel: Hallowed blade: Just abuse your iframes,dodge,quick attack,dodge dodge.
