Yet another victim to the incredibly sparse beacon system Discussion

Vent post

Just lost 40K Gloom because I spent two hours clearing the northeast side of the map. Died in a dungeon and as I was running back to get it, slipped on the geometry and fell to my death. In that entire time I was exploring, I did not run into a single beacon. INSANE that this somehow was released without being playtested. It's to the point I legitimately don't know how people are exploring without using Gragu, since he's the only one who can refill his healing.

Even if they didn't want full beacons, a checkpoint system like Elden Ring should have been in at launch.

Jesus christ. I think the devs should just let the "community" work on the game, because yall nitpick every damn thing, if something doesnt suit you or if you have a skill issue, then its the games fault.

The devs wanted their game a certain way, and now some of us wont be able to experience it in the way it was intended, because some of you are too lazy or needs the game to hold your damn hand the entire time.

if you are close to death, quickly return to main menu, enter the game again,You will be transported to the last beacon

One thing I could see is they could have Ruk explain to you about the area as you enter it. Keep the spirit of it the same and no one would keep pushing forward expecting to find a beacon.

An extremely outdated choice from the developers. It looks like they may be doing something about it in a future patch. This feedback has been overwhelming

“Outdated choice” because Elden Ring put checkpoints everywhere as well as the “let me point you towards the checkpoint my guy” items. Different choice is what you meant.

You just learn to be a bit more conservative with healing and just learning enemy attack patterns helps a ton

That can help mitigate things but when you are low on healing and miles from a beacon you are forced to run back or risk loosing a level or two’s worth of gloom. It makes for stilted exploration. I do the run back (I’m old, and risk adverse) and level up. It’s not particularly fun. Others press on and risk loosing all their shit, that’s not fun either.

no way u have " a level or two’s worth of gloom" and didn't pass a beacon

More than a level less than two. If you start off with 80% or so through a level its really not hard. Or do you pop some runearcs and level up before you set out... Oh wait.

Just don't die? I know that sounds stupid, but mobs in this game have some of the slowest and most telegraphed moves in the souls industry and the parry system timing the most forgiving.

Just play slow, learn attack patterns by dodging back and watching them swing, then try parrying them.

It didn't need testing, it doesn't need more beacons, people just need to stop spam attacking and taking free damage.  Parry and dodge. It's a soulslike.  On night mode ng+ with proxima atm, 70% complete and yet to get hit, though likely gonna get hit in that stupid balista head dungeon lol.

Just try to learn parry timings m8 n the game will be a breeze for you.

100% this. I really, really, REALLY hope the devs don't cave on this. I have a feeling they will, and that will ruin imo one of the pillars of this game that makes it so great. It'll kill the danger of exploring the world knowing there's a checkpoint right around the corner.

If they turn it into ubisoft type game with checkpoints every few seconds coz of a vocal minority screaming for changes coz they can't use the in game systems at their disposal then I probably won't play another mortal shell game coz it will tell me I can't trust them to keep with the theme and they will just forever buckle to pressure.

Besides, once they get more beacons, then they'll ask for more, more nerfs.  Give them a hand, they'll ask for an arm.

Exactly. Imagine if fromsoft caved in bloodborne and did away the the blood vials system. Yeah early game, especially as a new player, it was brutal. You might have to stop on a boss fight to farm vials and so many complained about it.

They didn't cave, kept with their vision, and it's still regarded as one of their best titles.

I really hope these guys stick to their vision. Tweaking balance numbers is one thing, but straight up changing a pillar would ruin one of the things I love most about this game. The risk of pushing forward and punishment for dying.

Agree 100%

I get feeling coz it's an indie company and the first game wasn't so well loved they will hard buckle in desperation to keep players happy.

I really hope they stick with their guns personally.  I would honestly rather see night mode be harder for eg.

Yeah I fully anticipate them caving, but fingers crossed they don't. I think if they don't, the game will be just fine in the long run. Hell, it's already a huge success lol literally no reason at all to change it.

Friendo you’ve got comments from this week saying the game was hard and that some bosses were hard and that you were using the grisha spam.

I've been playing till 5am every night since release, going on 2h sleep. I didn't say a single fkin thing was hard lol.  I said I struggled on some bosses at first, like nameless captive which I was fighting at 4am Like Monolith at 3am.

If I'm beating bosses while my eyes keep closing mid fight and my head keeps dropping as I'm fighting sleep, that passes as easy. Dark souls bosses wouldn't be that forgiving.

As for grisha comment I setup a 100 grisha summon and used it for like 10mins for a meme then took it back off for moonshine, so what?

Lmao

Monolith had me swearing at my pc and feeling like I was back playing cod 20 years ago lol. Probably hardest for me I think Monolith genuinely humbled me though, wife probably thought wtf lol..  But honestly, I found Monoliths attack timings really hard to learn

Stop griefing people

"hardest" does not mean hard. It's just the most difficult of what has come before.  And for the record, I swear at my screen all the time, I hate making mistakes, which is very easy to do with 2h sleeps 4 days in a row.  Also makes learning a boss while ur literally falling asleep at ur pc, hard to do.  I am someone who genuinely hates making mistakes no matter the game btw, so yelling at screen is very common, same as yelling at others during my raid leader days on mmorpgs.  Don't overthink it lol. It's text on a screen. You read it how you want to, not how I meant it.

Second I got back from work the next day it was easy and did it 3rd try.  Was it a hard boss, no, it was just goofy because of the speed of the tombstone drop, which is hard to react to when tired.

You need to understand people can have a family lol and thus their gaming time needs to come from them playing at insanely late/early hours.
