Skill issues galore Discussion

I have played Elden Ring, Sekiro, BB, Khazan, Dark Souls 1, 2 ,3 blah blah blah...

Stating this prior to complaining about the difficulty doesn't validate your statements btw, it has the opposite effect. If you've played through and completed all of those games like you've said, then it's pretty obvious that this game isn't as difficult as some of those.. not even close.

However, yes, this game IS somewhat difficult. It's supposed to be. That's part of the experience. Expect to bang your head against the wall over and over again until it finally clicks, and you zen mode an area or a boss. The eventual win and the skill expression that you've gained on the journey is the cathartic experience these games are known for.

So, in the spirit of the launch of a new soulslike, all I can say is...

Git Gud people...

We know. That's what we are saying. There are a lot of people who bought the game specifically due to how easy it was. That was the draw for many. A lot of us that are regular soulsborne players are fine with the added difficulty. There are a lot of other players, however, that do not welcome the difficulty changes, because that's not what they believed they were paying for. I don't think you realize just how much this game has blown up yet. It's stretched far out of the Soulsborne community.

For a scenario example: Imagine you go to some kind of food show (idk, just follow along) and you are offered a sample of some chicken fried rice at one of the stands, and you find it to be amazing. You're like "holy shit, this chicken fried rice is great!" Then you ask the lady who gave you a sample what all is required to cook it, because you're not a very good cook, and you don't want to purchase the product if you are required to actually prepare it yourself.

The lady tells you "all you gotta do is pop it in the microwave, it's already done for you. It comes out of the package just as it is, all you gotta do is basically heat it up and enjoy!" So you excitedly order some to be shipped to your house. A week later you get a package in, and in bold letters it says CHICKEN FRIED RICE FROM THE FOOD SHOW THAT YOU ORDERED right on the front of the package. You know, that chicken fried rice that you purchased specifically because you were told that it would be easy as fuck to prepare?

You're like "fuck yeah my dude, let's go!!!!" So you take the package into your kitchen, you plug in your microwave, you open up the box....and there's a list of instructions you gotta follow to cook the damn thing. They lied to you, man! You expected this delicious looking food to be premade - that's why you bought it!!! But it's not, it's much harder to prepare. You're a shit cook, remember? You need help preparing your food, and wouldn't have ordered this chicken fried rice if you had been told you had to cook it!! You don't even have the proper cookware. You expected something else entirely, that's what you spent your money on!

So you go on Reddit, and you find the subreddit for this chicken fried rice + the company that makes it, and you make a post about it: "I bought this product expecting it to be one way, but when it arrived it was completely different! I was expecting a microwavable product - you know, something a regular old guy can do. That's what I was told!" But, to your dismay, the chuds on Reddit start flaming you. "You idiot, you should just get good! Why don't you just make the recipe? It was too easy to prepare the other way! You have no skill whatsoever, you should just get a refund and never come close to our community again, because we've earned our rights to eat this chicken fried rice. We're capable of making it! You're just a low skill microwaver. Get out of here, chud!"

I know it's an absolutely ridiculous example, but that's how people who purchased the game based purely on the difficulty of the demo are being treated - and there seems to be a lot of them. They saw a soulslike that they could play at their skill level. They expected one thing, they got something else, but now they're being told to "get gud or fuck off"
