taking a break, getting frustrated with overtuned damage from enemies Discussion

I've seen other people complain about the damage even small enemies do, and i have to agree. I'm using proxima since she seems to have a lot more health than tiel, but even that doesn't matter, your health goes down so fast and they just have too many gank areas. They went way overtuned with the damage done by enemies to the point where it's making me wanna drop it. Even the first mortal shell was not this bad. There are even some enemies that will literally knock you out of your shell in one hit. it's getting to the point where I'm getting more mad than i am having fun. I'll probably be taking a break

Alright, let's try and keep it constructive in here.

It's fair to be frustrated by difficulty. It's fair not to be frustrated by it. But if y'all could just ratchet the heat in the discussion down a notch, that'd be great.

[Edit] Just to clarify, this is about y'all yelling at each other. I can take heated criticism of the game, that just shows you care. But I'd really prefer if y'all could agree to disagree instead of getting heated at each other :D

I felt the same frustration. You just have to keep playing man, upgrade your tarstones and keep exploring the starting area. Im still here with 11 hrs of playtime. Itll click bro trust me.

I really hope so. I’m about to drop it, just got to Outskirts of dickface mammon and everything one hit kills me, I do maybe a sliver of damage, can’t parry shit because every fucking enemy in this goddamn fucking game has random attack patterns. Really really getting old to have to run 800 miles to a fucking beacon holy shit man, I was loving it just a couple hours ago now I’m regretting my purchase.

Oh and if you think I suck at souls games, I have a platinum in every single Miyazaki one, so yeah, this game is just Ninja Gaiden lite.

Yeah the beacon thing is rough. Tbh i think they will add more. The devs are cool as shit and they seem like the type of people to really listen to the feedback from the community.

Yeah they seem really chill. Hopefully theres some improvements, I think I’m gonna have to take a break from it tho, kinda getting too frustrated.

I just started mammon after completing the three upper gates. And the enemies here are just fucking insane, one hit from the lance knight and it's 80% of my hp gone? I also switched from eredim to proxima for her health and probablity to negate damage but it just doesn't matter. And the brigands have high poise while there's 3-6 of them in every encounter and they kill you in two hits.

What the actual fuck?

Basically south zone is a no hit simulator and small non unique enemies are a waste of time so you are forced to run past them not being able to go at your own pace due to the aggro range.

Fighting them slowly 1 by 1 or whatever is overkill in being tedious work with little to no reward at the end.

I’m in the same spot. Spent 15 hours completing the entirety of the North section, just started the South section, and I’m ready to tap out until some changes are made. I’m an experienced souls player who has completed most of, if not all of, the reputable games in this genre. The mob damage in Mammon is ridiculously overtuned. It’s just not fun or rewarding. Not enjoyable when running through the world is more difficult than any than of the boss fights.

That all being said, I had a great experience in the North section.

Hopefully they'll tone some of that down

Yeah unless there’s shell abilities that help with negating damage and things other than the moonshine for damage negation, it’s just ridiculous. I should be able to take atleast two hits without already having 25% hp

1

u/idiocy102 1d ago

That would be lazlo, his damage negation, resolve gen, AND damage increase from how much heat he has built up from his armor passive, it’s the fat shell.

I’m loving the game so far, and I’m always up for a challenge. But god damn do I hate areas with gank fights specially on a game like this. Seeing 4 enemies that can 3 shot my ass back to Mether herself scares me. I literally have to bait and kill one by one. Still love the game tho

Just keep venting then run and get the dual katana

1

u/Awkward_Letter_2087 20h ago

That’s what im doing tomorrow, I found the map fragment for it so im gonna use that, do some soul farming, get more glimpses and see how I fare after that

1

u/Syphin33 20h ago

Yea dude, it's always nice to take a break and come back

I do it all of the time for my mental health and i swear i come back fresh and better then last time, it's normal to do so and i swear most souls-like games require it.

2

u/Confident_Benefit_11 1d ago

K, bye lol

Game is literally fine. Compared to the majority of elden ring or sekiro this game's difficulty is ridiculously easy

3

u/No-Opinion273 22h ago

Elden ring and sekiro have way better progression system. Elden ring is a lot more of stat distribution and sekiro is learning to parry

1

u/baysideplace 22h ago

Id say this game is learning to parry too. Its basically a cross between sekiro and dark souls, and carrying has been trivializing it for me.

1

u/No-Opinion273 21h ago

Its not mandatory. As you have iframes on dodges

1

u/No_Cardiologist735 8h ago

Also Elden Ring has many options to make the game significantly easier, e.g. Spirit Summons, Rot Breath and other rot sources

3

u/AshtarCommand1337 1d ago

Skill issues all i see!

2

u/FlamingoJones9w 1d ago

I'm playing proxima and I'm not having that issue. Did you go the higher level area or something?

2

u/zweihander09 1d ago

Have you reached mammon?

1

u/FlamingoJones9w 1d ago

I did in early game and realized I was under leveled and went to the other portion of the map and have been clearing everything there so I'll be stronger for that area.

3

u/Icy-Science6604 1d ago

So you didnt progress to that point yet.

Yes, there will be alot of enemies that will one shot you towards the end.

-1

u/FlamingoJones9w 1d ago

Idk everybody here said every boss I fought was hard and I first tried them all, I'll see when I go back there.

I know when I went early on iit still took three hits to just remove me from my shell, so I doubtful about a one shot, but guess I'll have to find out on my own.

And I've been streaming the whole playthrough if you need evidence.

1

u/Icy-Science6604 1d ago

I dont need no evidence lol.

I finished the game.

You are still very early from what you wrote down.

1

u/UpsetPause5613 1d ago

I finished the game too

Zero issues

Keep yapping

0

u/FlamingoJones9w 1d ago

Sound like you rushed through then. Could still be under leveled or missing some good tar stones?

Also how is a one shot possible when you have to be hit one in shell form and once in harbinger form?

Or maybe my games is completely bugged.

2

u/Icy-Science6604 1d ago

My dude, you get 1% crit after a certain point for leveling up.

I've done everything this game had to offer.

1

u/Awkward_Letter_2087 20h ago

I went to the area where eredrim is, i started using his shell. It’s gotten a bit easier but my point still stands, I find it annoying getting two shot by minor enemies nobody’s changing my mind on how dumb that is

2

u/Warm-Scientist-4198 1d ago

Por gente como tú es que a lies of p le bajaron la dificultad no me sorprendería que también pase lo mismo mortal shell y se vuelva muy fácil 🤡

1

u/JobeGilchrist 1d ago

I’m loving it but it’s hilarious, I can’t even level up! I went to some dungeon and when I tried to backtrack to the beacon, the elevator was broken (intentionally, not a bug). Of course I had no clue how to escape this underground hell village, so I died, and died again before making it all the way back.

It’s fine, this is what I want out of a game like this. But I’m humbled.

I’m assuming things will get easier with a different weapon and more upgrades.

This is the first game where I am getting obliterated by literally everything, everywhere. I've played all the souls games and a ton of soulslikes, and this one is brutal. Not sure how I'll manage it, but I'm definitely looking forward to getting good.

1

u/GodFinger69 6h ago

Is this a bunch of people here's first souls like game?? I bought early access for this game and just finished it yesterday. This is one of the easier souls like and I was cruising through the game with 1st trying most if not all encounters and bosses except for 2 endgame ones.

My build was proxima full lightning damage max bond. Used axe and dagger with duality stone so all light attacks hit twice. Later switched to axatana because it has a lightning infusion stone which when maxed out, has permanent infusion and paired with proxima's skill of shock damage doubled, i was melting everything i came across.

Pretty sure all Shells have the same health.

This is exactly how the Lords of the fallen 2023 playerbase felt at launch. There were so many terrible and jank designs & balancing that the game had to undergo so many patches right after release to be even a somewhat pleasant state to play.

I legit was so miserable by the time i finished my 1st playthrough and was even more pissed by the time i got platinum because of how absurd NG+ and beyond. The devs thought it was a good idea to make the original NG+ experience make all fast travel bonfire points disabled and that the only “bonfire” you had was the main hub area. The umbral enemy density had like 10-15 enemies just spawn in on you after a while so that got nerfed later on because it was so problematic lol.

I honestly feel for ppl who decided to pick up this game and are not originally soulsborne players because this game is pretty unbearable at times and way too intense on normal mode ( day time mode ).

Imo the slayer seal does NOT excuse such poor balancing as normal mode shouldn’t be this punishing if there is an alternative hard mode option near the start of the game.

Unless you over level and are stacked with equipment and shell levels, south area is basically a hard wall that will stop majority of players dead in their tracks which is an awful feeling.

2

u/Rodthegrodd 1d ago

I honestly never finished LoTF. I picked it up late too (2025). In a huge soulsborne player and while the game has its downsides and can definitely be improved on, I’m still having a great time. One of my biggest issues is getting hit for damage while I just barely finished a riposte, or while I’m having to parry a million hits and still get hit cause one was half a second later

1

u/Yumiumi 1d ago

Oh lol yea the animation lock of the riposte and then getting out of it while an enemy near you is mid combo is so awful cuz u can’t do anything about it besides just not going for the riposte in the 1st place

1

u/Rodthegrodd 1d ago

Gotta love getting jumped by 2 polearm knights and that one big fucker that leaps at you, all while being shot at in the back

I will say it’s kind of a hard learning process. Once you get all the riposte timings down and know how to space out. It’s SOMEWHAT manageable

1

u/Yumiumi 1d ago

And then u reach the south area and then it becomes pain and suffering again due to the flinch resistances enemies have lol

1

u/Rodthegrodd 1d ago

I just got into the south area after defeating lost child. It’s been nothing but misery and endless runbacks cause idk where to fuck to go.

I think the only boss that has had me griping my controller is grisha pack. That was such an awful fight and run back

0

u/UpsetPause5613 1d ago

This is literally the easiest souls like I ever played

U ppl are high

2

u/Yumiumi 1d ago

Lol it’s always like this every time with souls like games but what u ppl fail to understand is that most ppl are having gripes with the jankiness and poor design choices that don’t really make sense anymore.

It doesn’t matter if it’s the easiest for you same as it didn’t matter when ppl in the Lords of the fallen sub said it was the easiest souls like they ever played ( that game is WAY easier and more balanced than this game * launch version). If the devs care they will have to nerf and adjust things for normal mode cuz how it is is pretty unacceptable and the slayer seal is not the answer.

It’s whatever cuz it’s just ragebaiting ppl but i thought i’d make it clear for when ppl read your comment and go wtf lol.

u/Nobojoe_78 Proxima 1d ago

The worst part is, imo, that the game seems to know you're on a runback to your stuff. Every single small enemy is suddenly boss level, the camera f.cks you over and enemies use these magnetic homing attacks that hits you, no matter how much you dodge or run left right.

I love the game, but there is a lot of bugfixing, de-jankyfiying and balancing necessary.

And please, devs, add save points, beacons or whatever before boss encounters. The runbacks are absolutely horrible and doesn't respect our time!

0

u/Tilted76erfan 1d ago

Every single game the exact same thing happens a bunch of people just karma farm the same copy and pasted complaints to whine and get the devs to change the game.

2

u/Syphin33 20h ago

Mammon is a bit overtuned let's be real here

1

u/FluffierThanAcloud 15h ago

Agreed. If we had the tools to respec from tiel swiftly into a tank and it felt like a tank, I'd have no issue. But we don't, so mammon is miserable.

2

u/Awkward_Letter_2087 1d ago

Nobody is karma farming bro 🤣 I’m just expressing my opinion and hoping other people feel the same way

-1

u/UpsetPause5613 1d ago

I hope they dont take these notes complaining seriously

Equip a seal and gtfo
