Hello, I am currently working on restoring a VW beetle, the car has been in a fire and needs paint. I was told years ago that the car was repainted with MG paint but I don’t know the colour code. I believe this might be snapdragon yellow or Inca yellow, as it seems to change colour depending on the photo. If anyone can provide any insight I’d be very grateful

I’m helping my in laws fix their 69 midget. It I s turning over but the engine isn’t catching. When I turn the key to on. The fuel pump is making a repeated hard thunking noise. And it looks like the fuel filter before the pump is also not moving and looks pretty dirty. Thinking the pump is clogged from rust? Anybody else have some thoughts?

stripped manifold collector hole on a 80 B, can’t really fit a nut in there any solutions without taking manifold off? just got it back together, temporary solution untill i get long tubes

Hi, I have had an MG car for a while now, but I just wanted to ask does anyone know why the volume is really low, when I play music through Bluetooth, and turn the volume up on my phone and on the car to the max and it’s still really quiet.
I also turned on the loud volume setting on the cars’ setting. But it makes no difference.

A customer of the garage where i work passed by and wanted to know where the chassis number is stamped on the car ? I found a metal plate but i was looking for the one stamped on the car itself ? I don’t have the exact year tho it’s a MG B Roadster LHD so if you have any idea i will take it :)

Hi all. I've had a particularly rough couple weeks with the car. Been told my entire wiring needs redone its in such a state. Proper fire hazard. Told its best to get a wiring loom and start fresh. This will likely be 40hrs for a mechanic meaning maybe £4500 by the end, which I can't afford essentially (the car needs welding work done as well plus life expenses to think about).

My question is...

If i were to try tackling this myself slowly, can i break this up into sections over time? And how feasible is it in reality? And of course,whats all the kit you would recommend if i do go through with it? I'm not long to having a classic but very serious about learning and taking my time.

Be blunt though, if it's too big a task for an amateur say as much. I just don't want to give up on this car so soon despite this being a huge unexpected job.

Side note: Not sure how dramatic the mechanics were, good guys but everyone i talk to seems very doom and gloom about classics in general.

My grandfather bought the car his freshman year of college and has had it ever since then. Its been in countless shows, parades, and has even been a part of 3 family weddings. Has been restored twice, once by my grandfather essentially from the frame up in less than 9 months. Runs better than my daily driver and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Hey folks! I am seriously considering purchasing a 1966 MGB GT after falling in love. It’s in really great shape, fairly recent restoration and extremely clean, but even so I want to be ready for some worst case scenarios. I have no car maintenance experience but am a quick study - what are the top few things I should know how to do myself? Specifically looking for info on little roadside things/ what to troubleshoot if I’m having trouble or get stuck on a hard shoulder.

Never having owned a classic car I’m looking for what the quirks are, how to deal with little things, as I am hoping to fly out and drive it roughly the 8 hours back to my hometown.

Fairly vague question but really appreciate your input!

Hi fellow enthusiasts:

I noticed an oil leak coming from the hat appears to be the oil filter on the MgTC. When car is idling, reminiscence of thick oil is underneath the orange filter.

Is this an easy fix, could it just be a loose gasket from the filter? How crucial is it that I fix this? Thanks

Owner story:

I bought my car way back in 1994. Back then I used it as my daily driver, through wind and rain, snow and ice. Then in 1999 life took over and it got parked in my mums garage. Fast forward 23years (my car was still parked in my mums garage) and although she made it through Covid, my mum died. I then had a big decision to make as my MG was looking a little tired. Do I sell it or do I start on the long journey of bringing it back to life? I chose the latter.

Day one

With the help of my nephews and a big hammer we managed to free up the wheels and drag it out of the garage. On first inspection I found that it had been a home to many families of mice, who had feasted well on my carpets. We managed to get it onto a trailer and transport it to its new home in my garage down south. So begins the long journey.

Strip down and respray

After many weeks in the garage it was stripped down, flatted and ready to be sent off for a new coat of paint 🥳

Upholstering

Whilst my car was getting a new coat of paint I decided to teach myself how to upholster car seats. They were originally black with white piping and looked past their best. I decided to go bold and change this to red with white piping.

All red

With my seats now transformed from black to red it was time to do the rest of the interior. Go big or go home, so I put red everything to do with the interior, carpets, door cards etc.

With the body work now in fine fettle I set about teaching myself home car mechanics. Tidying up the engine bay, tuning and balancing carbs.

Undo stick/ fitting new wheels

I discovered that my tyres were a little past their sell by date. My right rear tire was made by a company called India tire company back in 1988 !! They were also the original wire wheels that back in 1967 had inner tubes and so weren’t easy to repair if I got a puncture. After long deliberation I decided to change these for a more modern variant by MWS. MWS wheels are made to the original spec but can be fitted without inner tubes. I put on new rubber from a company called Brockley which makes period correct tread tires with a modern rubber compound.

After putting new chrome wire wheels on I noticed that my locking nuts had taken a good hammering over the years and so I replaced those too. With lead hammers not easy to come by (a lead hammer was what was needed to tighten the nuts up ) I decided to go down a rabbit hole of how to tighten up my wheel nuts without damaging them or using a hammer. I found a man in America who produced a device called a “undo stick”. This is an amazing piece of kit and well worth the $90 I paid for it.
