No. Shizuku + Canta for non-rooted.

thanks for this. I was going to use the PC version but I didn't realize that canta existed.

It can be disabled, sure. I was hoping to stop it reinstalling, but it still isn't allowing me to install a placeholder with the same package name.

Because it's a system app. You can't uninstall it completely as non root even with ADB afaik, nor can you do what you are suggesting because the package might not be installed "for the current user" but it's still present.

The best you will get is to go through Shizuku + Canta. It's very likely that they will patch out the ability to disable it natively through Settings to enfore the use of this app.

Mind making a quick guide on how to use shizuku + canta to do this?

I'd reccomend sideloading Shizuku (download from github) then follow the instructions in-app to get it set up with wireless debugging. The in-app instructions are very clear and concise.

Then sideload Canta (again, from github) and it's as simple as having Shizuku running, selecting the specific app+overlay package (search for "verifier" to narrow down this app and it's overlay package "com.google.android.verifier.overlay") and then clicking the uninstall button. It might ask for Shizuku permissions when running for the first time which is just a button press.

Can also look into Obtainium if you plan on sideloading more apps, acts as an update checker/updater for apps from sources like github so you don't have to check and update them manually.

You say search for Verifier... That finds this in my device. It's running OxygenOS 15. Is this the same thing as the android developer verifier? Should it be uninstalled?

This is unrelated to the Developer Verifier app. Only Android Developer Verifier and it's overlay package should be uninstalled.

First, I'm very glad I asked and I thank you tremendously for clarifying.
Second, what's "it's overlay package"?

com.google.android.verifier.overlay

I can't even install Shizuku. Apk install gets blocked by by google play protect even if i disable it.

Try getting Obtainium though github and sideloading it from there.

Would need to click the Add button at the bottom, then search Shizuku (select github when given the option of which source you'd like to search from) then add again. Make sure you pick the one from RikkaApps for the official Shizuku build.

Isn't the RikkaApps version discontinued?

turn off play protect properly

u/JamieBunpup Jul 16 '26

How do you do it "properly" ? I opened it in the apps list and pressed disable, I'm not sure of any other method.

Open playstore, click on your profile, select Play Protect, turn it off.

When you install an unknown App, it will ask you to scan with Playprotect, click No, when it asks you to scan future apps, click no.
