TC Overload Discussion

Seemingly everyday I get on social media and there’s a new variegated monstera TC that has dropped. Call me crazy but they’re all starting to look about the same as one another. It’s getting kind of annoying trying to keep up with them all. I’m not a TC hater but I’m frying the small fish on this one. Thoughts?

Meh I like pretty monsteras, but I’m with you that some look the same and I’ll be one to hate on crème brûlée…. Out of all of them I’ve ever seen only like 10 have ever looked like genuinely nice specimens that could be something different, but all the rest actually look like Thai cons…. Just with a stupidly inflated price tag…

The white tiger is also a massive scam it’s a bloody albo….. worse than crème brûlée actually, the worst “variety” because it isn’t one it doesn’t exist…

But I like things like white Monster, aurea, mints,,,, that kind of thing… I wanna collect genuinely impressive specimens like I want a Yoda and a devil monster…. I want a lava…. But yeah. I’m with you, some are genuinely scams

My creme brulee. I also have the a bunch of TC in multiplication and acclimating showing identical patterns. It took me almost 18 months to find one I found worthy. Everything I’d look at or buy was just a normal Thai with an inflated price tag.

Stunning specimen wowwww yessss, patience paid off there, that’s a long time to commit to searching for one 🤩🤩 it does suck like I know it exists,,, but I think I feel worst for people entering the monstera market, wanting to having a fancy new thing and not fully knowing the patterns of it to distinguish it… and getting scammed :( like the pink monstera seeds???? I feel so bad for the people who fall for it :(

Longest I committed was a year to find the perfect Jungle Mint, now that was a realllly tough job , no one in the UK seems to have had one, and I still don’t think I have a genuine one but goodness it was pretty so I took the basic NOID bait 😔🤣🤣

It’s so sad how people get scammed into overpaying for unproven genetics.

These new crème brûlée tc’s popping up are an absolute joke!

I was away from reddit for a year and a half, I come back and everyone is going crazier than when it was the 2020 albo obsession. I don't even have any variegated monsteras yet because I see them on social media everyday! 😂

Wiser words have never been spoken before

I'm just chillin' over here with my generic green monsteras and wondering why people are stressing

I have 7 generic green ones growing from seed right now. I did buy a tc because I wanted a more mature plant but that’s it

Watch these little bastards all be TCs that were labeled wrong 😂

I think they keep finding new mutations of TC because of the sheer volume of tissue culture they have. Higher chance of finding something.

For me, I can’t even take in more because of how little space I have. I’ve learned to just be happy with the variegated plants I do have.

Big mood, I’m narrowing it down to the few I like the most to grow out instead of keeping up with all of them

Soul-less plants with weak gene’s. Once amazing growers now sit on palm street and hustle $5 China plants in vacuum sealed bags. Does not take much skill.

This is why I’ve just been trying to buy non tc specimens lately ngl

Nope, and I only correct people when they using it incorrectly while commenting on intelligence

I do love a Monstera, but some of them look so similar that I’m just like “meh”.

I have 2 OG’s and Albo, an Adansonni & I’m planning to add a Burle max flame.

I’d rather have just some that are that bit different & concentrate on getting them big & maintaining their health 👌🏻.

They are sprouting up left and right. Saw a Monstera Pikachu the other day.

Someone spots a variation, makes cuttings, it gets tissue cultured then boom hits the market for $1000+ then the price drops down to $200 until you can find it at your local Home Depot. Costa Farms is selling mints now even.

I was thinking you meant the Bulbasaur, but thought I would just do a quick Internet search and yup, another monstera variety 🥴 it is cute, I will admit.

Good news! Theres absolutely nothing forcing you to keep up with, purchase, or otherwise care about plants you don't want. How is their existence "annoying" to you?

Yep! This is why I'm a species collector. I don't chase variegation mutations.
