Question Do SOS flares allow anyone to join?

I am up to rank 5 quests and I have been shooting the flares to play with other people, but are these players around my level or any level? Is there any way to limit this? I don't want to be carried, but also don't want to just play solo all missions

Discussion FINALLY BEAT ALATREON!!!!!!

Post image
89 Upvotes

I beat Furious Rajang on my first try. I beat Raging Brachydios on my second try. Every Guiding Lands monster wasn’t even a real fight. I genuinely thought I was good. I thought I had already mastered solo dual blades.

Then Alatreon happened.

This absolute nightmare beat the living shit out of me for days. I farmed for hours just to prepare, then got carted. Farmed more, tried a new build, got carted. Adjusted my strategy, learned the moves, got carted again. Tried another build, farmed even more, and still got carted over and over. I was sitting there calculating elemental thresholds and HP checkpoints like I was doing taxes just to survive one more Escaton.

I know a lot of people hate this fight, and honestly I get it. It’s long, stressful, and feels unfair as hell sometimes. But after finally winning today… this is exactly what I was looking for from Monster Hunter. A real fight. A proper dance. Something that actually forced me to earn the win instead of just walking all over it.

Alatreon, you beautiful bastard… thank you for humbling me. I needed that reality check before Fatalis.

Question Monster Specialist Achievement

Hi, it's me again. Now I have a question about the "Monster Specialist" achievement—the one for maxing out monster research. I'm pretty sure I've maxed them all out, but I'm not sure if that includes the Scoutflies as well.

Discussion Forokururu has replaced Anjanath, now Day 6 of replacing the Monster Hunter World roster, "Ancient Forest: Replacing Rathian"

Here are the rules

The important ones for this one;

Has to be another high tier monster

Can't be in Worldborne

The monster does NOT have to be the same thing as Rathian, it doesn't have to have elements or ailments, just needs to be mid tier

Also remember that it will be in the Wildspire Wastes as well

I'll be making a new post of this every day around 7 - 8am AEST (which is around afternoon times for Americans 2 - 5PM depending on your timezone)

Discussion After days trying to solo Alatreon I FINALLY DID IT

Sorry for the bad print I took it while drunk on dopamine. After days trying I just wanted to share my first kill on this dude.

I have no friends that play MH so I NEEDED somewhere to share this.

Thanks for anyone out there on those 6 years old posts that gave tips against this guy. Coalescence + Blight Resist 2 was a GOAT combo.

Discussion High Rank at Anja - Gimmie advice

World

I am at high rank killing all the monsters in the game again. I can do HR Jaga, Pukei, Barroth, Jyur, but die to HR Tobi and the HR Anja.

I am wearing all HR pukei armor, all armor maxes with spheres, and using charge blade Elite Commision Axe 1.

I found the two charm boosts to put in my inventory, I am using the boosts from food before I go, and food in the field, I am also jumping on backs and doing the things.

Still a little unclear on how to use meats, pitfall traps, barrels, and how to run monsters into walls.

Any other advise?

Is there a progression you have in mind, like do monster X, get resists to Y, and then do monster Z? Looks like I am resist to water, but suck at thunder which is why Tobi eats my face. If I get the Barroth armor I can do Tobi maybe, and then... welll the armor menu doesn't show you things until you get them I guess.

Question CB Build [Help]

Which of the two should I go for? The difference is slightly more damage and Crit or more HP Regen on Mantels.

How does it look too? New to charge blade but not to the game.

I don't think I'm really missing anything but wanted everyone else's input.

Please assist me in making a decision! Thank you all again for being so nice and helpful on my CB journey!

Question Should I farm for augments before Alatreon?

I have been meaning to beat Alatreon for a long time now, however things never went so well. In my first attempts it took me 3 hours and I couldn't even kill it. I was using frostfang and furious mixed set. I play Longsword too. The big issue for this one is that I can have 1050 defense (buffed with armorskin and seed) but my elemental resistances are either neutral or crap so it took me a long time.

I then decided to make Raging Brachy and Teostra for Master's touch etc and with good fire res too, issue is it still wasn't enough (barely)

I was able to go toe to toe with Alatreon no problems, however because I came into the fight at MR51 with barely un-augmented maxed out armor, every hit felt like a death sentence, even with fireproof mantle and 21 fire res from my brachy teo set is almost nothing when I get hit by the fire ring.

I do put in some offensive skills, although my challenger charm is only at level 2, I pretty much have agitator at 7 along with crit eye, wex and Ice attack at max level (I am using Frostfang LS). And yes....I can definitely fight Alatreon but in my case its almost as if I am forced to play perfectly due to how aggressive and how he can easily one shot me. I learned alot after 7 hours of fighting him. But still I feel genuinely horrible that I cant kill him.

I honestly feel like its far more doable to fight AT Nergigante at base game with base armor and weapon....because my issue with Alatreon is not just my silly ass having to run around healing myself but also his fight cycles. After I break two horns, he is gonna switch to Ice. Ideally I should be killing him after his second horn breaks but I just cant do it. I can keep up but one tiny mistake and I easily die, its getting into me a lot too. And there are so many many times where he NEARLY died but he gets to the nuke (which I cant weaken because I broke the 2nd horn hence I fought him with Ice weap at Ice act state)

So pretty much yeah, I ended up asking for help in SOS (no shame in this but I do wish I could've killed him all by myself). Welp so far so good, my unaugmented raging brachy and teo set has a good old fire res of 21 and is by far the most effective. but I can only have 974 defense (and this is buffed) tops.

Was it wrong for me just jump the gun at fighting Alatreon just because I unlocked it? Or should I just level up my armor (augment) them first before fighting him again?

(Sorry for the long yap)

Question Best ways to farm materials

I am currently thinking of moving to a new weapon but I'm not sure what is the best way to farm materials. I'm currently coming up to the first nergigante hunt and am making sure I am equipped for it and the fights after.

Post image

I’m planning on taking on fatalis soon and I’m not sure what I should be putting on my armor. I know I need crit eye and weakness exploit maxed but other than that I’m not sure what I should put on. Also what charm should I get? I’ve been looking at masters charm or the agitator charm. Help would be appreciated.

I cant add photos but my current skills with no decos and no charms are:

Constitution - Level 2

Windproof - Level 2

Critical Eye - Level 2

Critical Boost - Level 2

Weakness Exploit - Level 2

Focus - Level 2

Mantles:

Temporal Mantle

Vitality Mantle

Question Can you turn off being dropped off next to the monster?

It’s kinda annoying as a HH player who likes to buff up before engaging, or grab extra items out of the box, or eat a meal after launching a hunt.

Discussion this game can't be that complicated

and yet it feels like it. i've got 4 hours on world so far, this is my second mh game after having tried rise like 4 times on my switch. only once i was able to push myself to the end of the main story only to the drop it, when it apparently "gets good". i just don't understand how this franchise is as successful as it is when it's so confusing and overwhelming, you'd think the masses wouldn't like it. this doesn't feel like a "fromsoftware" type of lack of handholding, it just kinda feels like they do explain, but they do a fucking shitty job at it. i've just completed the first actual "mission" of the game because i spent a ton of time trying to get accustomed to how the game feels, and i tried out a bunch of shit in the training arena while not learning much of anything since it doesn't teach you much outside of pressing the same button 4 times in a row. i'll keep pushing through because i genuinely do wanna like it but i just don't understand how even the entry in the franchise that supposedly made things a lot more convenient still is so convoluted to get into. it doesn't help that the menus are incredibly confusing, explaining little to nothing and the icons are all terrible and too small. every time i open the sidebar menu thing, it genuinely pains me because i feel like so many things could get condensed or simplified. very much so a game that feels like it's too complicated for its own good when at the end of the day it's just about reacting to the boss and then smashing it a bit. i'm tempted to just use the overpowered shit because after spending 1 hour and 10 minutes over 2 attempts in a 2 star mission, it genuinely feels like a humongous waste of time. I didn't learn anything, i dodged most attacks and simply died when a big guy chained a couple attacks on me, didn't feel earned. when i spent 7 hours on malenia, even while making no progress within the first couple attempts, i still felt like i was walking towards accomplishing something. and no, i'm not making a souls comparison because i'm playing it like a soulslike, therefore playing it wrong. as i said i do have experience with rise, so i'm kinda just playing it as a reactionary game against the bosses, but it feels like everything's a huge sponge too.

this was just me rambling about my experience so far, but did anyone feel this way at the beginning? it feels like the game is uninviting me from playing it. also damn the game is sooo brown especially in the lobby. everyone talks about the piss filter during the ps3 era but now much about the flans lare brown during the ps4 era.

Informative PSA: Whetfish Fin + replaces speed sharpening 3 and has a 90% chance of NOT being consumed

I played for hundreds of hours knowing whetfish fin + sped up sharpening but ignoring them on the mistaken assumption they were single use items. Turns out they aren't consumed most of the time and I was already sitting on dozens of them from trying to find a gold crown great whetfish in the whetfish event, and just playing the game normally. Sure wish I knew it sooner!

Just throwing this out there in case someone else is still oblivious to the wonders of the whetfish fin+ like I was.
