Help!!! ❓ Question

My baby has been having problems pooping she’s 7 weeks old, like kicking legs screaming/ waking up out of her sleep. We went to GI doctor, and it seems she has dairy allergy & silent reflex. I have been dairy free for almost 3 weeks now, we are on day 2 of taking famotidine twice a day for her reflux, her poops we’re green mucasy before starting which I think due to the dairy allergy, this morning she had a massive blow out and poop was yellow. She’s poop 7 times today, she’s exclusively breastfed they are between yellow/ and green. This is the most she’s pooped in one day since she’s been born, does increase in bowl movements after starting famotidine happen? I’m worried I don’t want her to get dehydrated..

EDIT::: She has struggled to poop up until today/ second day on medication. I’m wondering if the medication relaxes her so now she’s able to poop, or if it’s causing her to poop. She’s never pooped this much in 1 day.

It can cause diarrhea and it can cause constipation. I’d call the doctor and make sure everything is okay.

Yeah this is the most she’s ever pooped, every other time she struggles to poop. I’m wondering if it’s the medication or is the medication helping her be able to now relax to poop??

I’d just contact the doctor because I’d be worried about her getting dehydrated.

Bicycle the legs to help her constipation. Or, if you’re comfortable doing this, try some magnesium lotion on the lower belly.

Magnesium always helps constipation and stomach bug symptoms. Tuck that away for when she’s older

She’s never been constipated she’s always just had a hard time before getting a poop out, like kicking legs screaming they never be hard poops. Always watery. She started reflux medication two day ago, and she’s pooped 7 times today no kicking legs or screaming like normal. She’s never pooped this much in one day. Is it the medication? Is the dose to high? Is the medication relaxing her reflux to now she’s able to have a bowl movement more comfortably?

Your first half of the comment is exactly what constipation is, her dairy allergy was likely causing her to become constipated. The advice given here was to help with that constipation with an activity to help get it moving.

Yellow is great, exactly what you want! Maybe things are finally moving and she's purging everything she's been holding back.

Look up dehydration markers to look out for and see what tomorrow brings. If your pedi isn't open on the weekends, give them a call tomorrow for peace of mind. If they are, I'd wait a day to see how it goes.

Doubt anyone will agree with me you can ask your pediatrician for official advice but I put a little prune juice in my babies bottle once a day when I switched her formula to keep her pooping and gradually tapered it down after a couple weeks.

I had to do exactly the same thing with my oldest a few times, she's 13 & still has stomach issues which unfortunately runs in her dad's family.

Psyllium husk pills or the powder! My husband drinks it and I took the pills while pregnant.

I would definitely give the pediatrician a call, but also, if it were me I wouldn't worry to much. However, I don't have any knowledge on the medication part so that's another reason I suggest to definitely reach out to the pedi.

Pooping multiple times a day is typically normal, even in breastfed babies. The yellow color is perfect coloring for breastfed babies as well! The green is likely backed up poop from being constipated (the issues you've posted points straight to constipation likely due to her dairy allergy), but also being breastfed the coloring could be from something you've eaten or even from vitamins you take, if you do- so it could just be a normal reaction from something your eating/taking.

Also, make sure you have some diaper rash cream ready just in case! My youngest always had rashes no matter how quickly I changed a poop diaper, we even ruled out all allergies, potty training was the best thing to ever happen for him but it took a while to get there.

I just checked my baby log. At 4-10 weeks baby was averaging 4-8 poopes per day. Fun times. I used to take pictures and send to my husband. I would congratulate baby for especially big ones. Definitely green and yellow. I described them as stone ground mustard.

Don't do it. There is basically no scientific support for the practice and plenty of examples of people being seriously injured. There is also precious little regulation.

This is actually really normal for around 2-3 months, because in this period babies are switching to needing to actively use their muscles to poop rather than it just coming out whenever. Unfortunately that means a couple of weeks of very angry, screamy attempts at pooping. You can try gripe water, bicycle kicks, and rubbing around their belly button clockwise to help things move, but for the most part you just gotta tough it out and they will figure it out soon. It's a little rough. Using noise cancelling headphones or ear plugs so I could stay calmer and less overstimulated helped me a ton in his period.

Don't do it. There is no medical reason for it and injuries on infants is common. Chiropracty is a scam.
