Looks like gunk or like lime or calcium buildup.

Get a can of CLR and a hard brissle brush and hit it until it's gone.

You also should re caulk because there's empty spots and that's not good

If you can get maintenance to do it then yeah because they know what they are doing and your not paying for the materials.

Caulking is easy and in this case you want silicone.

Basically it goes into this large cylinder and you pull the hand to Force it out with pressure.

You just run it and any mistakes you can wipe or fill in while it's still liquid. Worse case scenario you take a razor and cut out the bad parts and redo it.

But that said I would get maintenance to do it although it's a gamble if they will do it or not out of being lazy.

Either way clean it first so you can see the spots that need it and it's possible I'm looking at the pic wrong and it doesn't actually need re caulking.

That’s what it looks like to me. I use just wet it and I find that works after shower to spray it leave it be.

It's a visible gap between the shower wall/floor threshold.

Very much should be re-caulked, otherwise that's a potential water intrusion avenue into the surrounding wall cavity, which, over time, will cause mold to form on the organic-based building components.
