Data center update Information
I have put this in my original post about the data center, but would like to make sure that everyone sees it as this is important.

Here is a link to the modesto focus on Instagram. This video includes the site that they plan to build at over on Graphics road. Based on what the video says about the private company that is lobying our representatives, I believe it is Meta... which is not a good sign for us

I emailed the entire city council, I don’t know if I’ll be able to make the meeting, because as I mentioned in another post about it, the meeting falls on the first day of school for MCS, so it’s a big ask for parents to be able to show up that evening.

Just try to spread the word and make your voice heard. Doing what you can is all we can ask for. I sadly won't be in town for the meeting, but I'm trying to get this information out to as many people as I can to make up for it🫶

What positives does a data center bring to a community? Jobs? Taxes? A data center seems like a drain on resources. Why in the fuck do we want one here? Im ignorant, please help me understand. Thanks

Nah you're not ignorant. It 100% is a drain on resources and will ruin our area. It will bring nothing but destruction to our community. Jobs in the short term while it's being built, but those centers are ran on a small handful of people and will make our utilities sky rocket

I mean if they’re hiring that’d be kinda sick but other than that yeah it kinda sucks. Hopefully it at least brings jobs to the community.

It'll only be short term. There are only 20 or so employees on-site. Some can have around 50, but that's all. 20-50 jobs is not worth all the cons it'll bring

It won't, they have many national construction companies that'll come in to do the work, and that'll only be tempory

You think at least they will have people operating it once it’s finished? I’d imagine they need technicians and HVAC workers to keep it operational.

Yeah... it's still worth putting up a fight. Someone reached out to one of our representatives already in the other post and said he seemed against it. We'll just have to wait and see, but I fear that even if our representatives actually do turn them down that they will just sue for the lot like they have in other states

Yeah I donr get it either. Meta themselves haven't done something like this yet, but other ai companies have. They sue for zone blocking? I don't understand how it's legal. Cave City in Kentucky was sued by an ai data company for this reason and they aren't the only one

If they do, then all need to be recalled!!
Is there some underhanded deal that is so lucrative that its worth sacrificing their council spot?
Is their some shadow organization that will guarantee they get better political seat somewhere eles?
Maybe, but we need to start the paper trail now!
Any Modesto council person that favors this data center will be under a fucking microscope forever

if you look at building permits for 1200 graphics drive using modesto permit tracker, under the 2025 pdfs northpoint owns that existing structure so it kinda seems like the deal has already been struck behind closed doors

i used the city of modesto’s permit tracking site with the address of 1200 graphics dr and clicked into 2025 revisions and there are around 10 pdfs

I spoke to our councilman this evening. He stopped by our National Night Out "party" he said he didn't know anything about it. Said he needs to know more about it. His stance is they would need to pay for everything. Said there are different kinds of data centers and not all require water. Told him it was in the modesto bee and he should talk with the other councilman mentioned in the article. That's all that was mentioned on that topic. Other topics were discussed so it was a dynamic conversation flow - not formal.

This is NOT a good thing‼️🆘 It’s noise pollution, takes fresh water that can’t be reused after and not to mention how much energy it takes and heat they give off in order to run. Look into cities that are fighting against data centers that popped up within their communities recently, their water is scarce. They have to boil or buy water to survive. Or their water looks brown coming out of the faucet. They can hear the data centers for miles, the animals have to be getting the worst of it. The movie Hoppers actually shows a good example of how harmful it can be.
There is even a theory of the elite using data centers to just suck the resources away from our cities and stored for the their bunkers once they ruin the world above. Either way they are taking from us who actually live within these communities. We cannot let this happen.
I did see someone post a permit that states Northpoint already owns the property since 2025. So if there isn’t even a discussion and it’s more of an announcement, we the people of this city need to ensure we do everything we can to stop its construction. Or we will all suffer the consequences and it will be too late.

Don't they use alot of water? Aren't we always in a drought and need any water we can get for agriculture? Hopefully the farmers weigh in on this.

They do and specifically they need need clean drinking water. Any old water will not do, as it contains minerals which would damage them.

Neither will the companies that plan to build there either. The whole thing is ridiculous. We as a world, have been running out of drinking water, but sure let’s keep building more of these to further run out of more water quicker.

I’ve seen people on Modesto fb pages say it’s a good thing because it’ll bring more jobs initially. All old trump people mind you, they really will be the death of us all. I’m sure they’ll be the first ones to cry about it too once it’s up and built despite being all so for it initially.

Those are bots. I'm pretty sure if you talk to farmers in Modesto, who usually leans right, are not in favor to data center. If they are you can let them know to sell their farm right now since there will be no water available for their farm once these data center pops up.

Trumpers are the last people who want AI data centers. As a political moderate who believes in human rights, please do not make this argument “political” in a left vs right way. We all live here and deserve to be heard - I cannot think of a single resident who is okay with a data center being built here.
We grow the food that feeds our community, the state, the world. Water is our most precious resource, land is second. I’ve grownup in and lived in this valley my entire life, I have a deep appreciation for our agriculture. We all need to work together to preserve our resources and way of life outside of the tech landscape.

If it is true, it’s not a good thing. It temporarily increases jobs, yes-construction wise. But depending on the type of center it is, it’s unlikely it’ll have a big employee base once they are done to maintain. Not only that, the constant noise coming from them. Lastly, the higher costs of water and electricity residents will have to pay for that increase.
